Downloaded it, everything went fine, I press 'start' then nothing.
I have a decent gaming rig, play every other game absolutely fine. A little stumped.
EDIT: Just found this. Will try it. http://phpbb.acclaim.com/spellborn/viewtopic.php?t=2308

It's a bit slow to start, just give it moment longer to load, also make sure your screensaver is off as well.
Actually, the fix they suggested let it start, so something good there.
But now I have a critical error... no label. Sigh.. gonna be one of those beta experiences!
Sadly, the no label critical error appears to be a very common problem now, acknowledged, and means many people can't play this game.
I hope they fix it.

As for the No Label error....try turning meshes down to normal in video settings, turn AA off, and maybe even shadows off.
I got a couple of the No label errors, but once I turned the meshes and AA off, I havn't gotten one since.
Hope this helps.
But I can't even get into the game in the first place...
how can I change settings?

Oh, I'm sorry...I read "Actually, the fix they suggested let it start, so something good there.

Hm. That is a pickle. Maybe some tweaking of the sb_client.ini ?? In fact, while you're in there, you might want to make sure that Startupfullscreen is set to true. SB would crash for me any time I tried to run it in windowed mode, and I had to edit that line to get into the game.
Actually...was just digging in the ini and found this:
MeshLODDetailLevel=MDL_Medium
Might want to try that. Hope you can get it working, the game rocks.

yeah - I was unclear. what I meant was the fix for the initial problem got me to the login screen. This' no label' error I suspect is something a little more fundamental.
cheers
I actually suspect that the No Label error is a symptom of a nasty memory leak. It's THE major bug that's being worked on right now, so I figure it will be dealt with before too long.
Then I go back to max settings!
The fact that it won't even let me into the game in the first place doesn't sound like a memory leak, or could it?
PS my ini settings were already as you suggested
no, your case seems different from my own experiences, and those of the majority who suffer from the No Label crash.
Don't worry if you can't get it to start, Acclaim can't either. How those morons sit on the game in "beta" for MONTHS after it's already live elsewhere in the world is beyond me.
Last year I was so hyped up for this game...then release day came and went, and all the nonsense involved in that. I'd still love to play it, but I'll be damned if acclaim is going to get a penny out of me. They're too incompetant to give my money to, they've already demonstrated that they're terrible. Shame I can't get it right from the devs. Anyhow, maybe the design studio will make enough to publish their next game themselves, without Acclaim around to wreck it. I do wonder how much bigger the game would have been in the USA if it had released on it's original release date.
Well, Honkie, the IP block for EU has ended...you can always play on the EU servers. I hear the performance is actually pretty good from here in teh states.
This way you can play the game and avoid Acclaim entirely.
Do you have AVG installed on your PC?
The AVG anti virus program hate TCoS and blocks it from running unless you set up an exception in the AVG advanced options.
