This game is unfinished and very crash prone. Just read some of the Age of Conan forum messages left by players and now mostly former players on the state and quality of this game.

It would be nice to see some basic editorial investigation by this online game review instead of blindly posting game company news advertisements.
I can play for hours with no issues. I have not crashed in months.
I can only assume a system issue. I would have that looked into.
I gave up at lvl 12, uninstalled the game, and I doubt it will ever be installed again.
If I could simply skip the whole starting area and enter the next at lvl 20 or whatever, then maybe I'd like it enough to buy/subscribe. But constantly running back and forth on the same road, doing dead boring "talk to that NPC" quests, killing the same mobs over and over again every time you passed them, the frequent loads screen... - it killed the whole experience for me.
I second the no crash issue. Right now the game is pretty stable, havent had any crash and sometimes I was playing while AutoCad was running in the back with 3-4 drawings open, so pretty stable.
One question though, are the outfits/armor will get any better in terms of look? I have a hot babe toon but her outfit is horrible!

Depends on level and class. all classes have some good looking gear, however if you want to look good you also have to farm bosses, do group instances or raid for gear. There is a few good looking kit outside of these too for instance if you can use light armor you can farm kushite's in Purple lotus swamp for darfari armor. When patch 1.05 comes out, it holds all promises from launch. I think they had to launch the game last year due to costs and very little income. That had a big impact on the playerbase. But after servermerges earlier this year, they say this game has started over and experienced growth in subscriber numbers. I can see why, cause its a lot of fun. Gotta go play now!
Just wanna drop in and say a big welcome / welcome back to those giving the game another go.

Nope, not going to subscribe. I gave up at lvl 12, uninstalled the game, and I doubt it will ever be installed again. You can actually do that, you know, except I think you enter the next area at level 15 then, and you'll obviously lack the equipment you'd get by doing the quests.
Then I downloaded the trial and tried again. No crashes, no lag, really playable.
But then I realized it was the game that's not for me, I used to think it were the bugs and crashes that drove me away. It's the same as every other MMO, except executed worse IMO. The praised combat system is the same, only difference is that you have to press 3 buttons instead of 1. Graphics are the same as every other modern MMO, with the exception that I don't like the art. The final nail in the coffin was zoning, there is no world but smallish boxes.
I didn't mean to upset you who are into this game, have fun and all that. It's just not for me, I think.

Honest, and I respect that opinion. I am glad I differ, and I believe everything you said is wrong, but people have different tastes.
I think combat is more involved, and it is NOT like other MMO's. The graphics are NOT like any other MMO. The quests are more involved, and well layed out, and the cutscene quest givers feel more immersive.
I think that is why people are unique I guess.
Good luck finding an MMO that is different..may I suggest EvE Online?
I must say I really like some aspects of the game. Im currently in a trial and Im not sure what to make of it, Ive just left Tortage and is cruising around in cimmeria start regions. But something seems to be very very wrong in this game, I like the combat itself, I like the world, the npcs, the dungeons and so on but.
I hate the constant grief, the way that spawn points are marked with ganking squads just waiting for you to ress so that they can hunt and kill you. Its never fair, either its 2 or more of them or theyr simply higher in lvl. Im so fuckin tired of getting killed while doing quests. Im in basic a PvP player, Ive played EvE pvp and loved it, Ive played WAR on a open PvP server and love it, every mmo Ive played have been on a PvP server.. but this...
You are being stalked by everyone, soon as you see a player its not for group but for you to either kill or be killed so players avoid other players, talk bout anti social behavior. Getting a group isnt easy either I keep asking and shouting out in general chat like a mantra, no answers.
Then theres the PvP instances! yay buffed to lvl 38 with crap skills and gear, I dont last 10sec (lvl 23) I mean what were FC thinking?
Right now it feels like a solo game were everyone preys on the weak with constant griefing and spawn camping, the areas are too small to hide in so its easy for griefers to find victims, there doesnt appear to be any penalties for this rather reward as in PvP stats.
I started to play because of the endgame PvP potential but I must say Im really confused wheter I should stick around.

It really sounds as you should have rolled on a PvE server instead. You can PvP both in mini games and in special zones on the PvE server, and there is also endgame PvP in the forms of sieges. What there is'nt is endless ganking while you quest and the anti-social behaviour that you mention. PvE is really a PvP-when-you-want-to server.

Either that or try the PvP-RP server where this is not AS common an issue. But, yea, the FFA PvP really stinks here. If you wish to continue playing there, join a guild then.
Don't Even bother resubbing this sub-par game. Funcom is smart for allowing a 7 day trial to their game, but honestly as someone who subbed twice, i'm telling you after you get to the higher levels it's all downhill from there. For those who are hardcore pvper's, turn away now you will be disapointed greatly. The PVP system is wreaked, they reward "White sands griefers" more than lv 80s duking it out with each other. Oh yeah wait till you try to lv to 80, or even think about pvping at 80. The cluster f**k in Kheshatta should be a part of the 7 day tour Funcom is giving you. I admit, I love the melee combat system and experiencing Tortage and 20-30 zones was a treat, but be warned that all the warm fuzzies you've been feeling will be wreaked by the pvp system, the lack of content end game, and the no-skill casters who don't have to abide by the combo system as they wreak their melee counterparts with a few buttons. People these days don't pvp for any objective than a xp bar that grants new gear which is easier for a lv 20 than it is an 80 (Check out white sand you'll see). Capture the flag and totem torrent are poor ideas for pvp. If they had implemented situations that would have happened in the age of conan like Death arenas and the such minigames would have a place in the game. Minigames are hard to pop unless you are in a premade, and that scares the strays so you're waiting for more victims. The PvE is great until you get to about 50. Expect some grinding to ease your way to 80. Raid's are a pain, as you will be wreaked with bugs (raid groups vanish during a fight, tanking bugs that reset hate on the tanks and wipe out DPS.) I forgot to mention that raid gear is only good for raids, forget having an edge in pvp with it, those lv 30s that are ganging up on 50-80s in the noble district and Aztel's are well on their way to having the best pvp gear in the game. I loved this game once upon a time, but when you have to re-roll because pvping with a 80 is counterproductive vs rolling a band of 30-50 and killing higher lv players, not to mention the broken raids and pathetic zergs at Kheshatta being the light at the end of the tunnel, I think this company needs to step back and find a solution fast.

It's wrecked.
I haven't resubbed just yet, but after doing my research, most of the problems you cite have been addressed.
Pvp minigames are horrible, but that's fine. The main drawing point (for me, at least) are the sieges, the combat system and the upcoming changes to all classes and PVP.
I won't continue playing when my Trial ends. While I like the graphics, I don't like the interactive cutscenes. It just ruined the immersion for me. If it was not for that I might think about getting it.
Check your game settings
Well I did check my settings, and found one that said "Do not show cut scenes" or something to that effect, Yet when I went to get my next quest, it was still there. So figured I had to log out, then start the game again. and still had cut scenes. Granted they are interactive with your choices of answers at the bottom of the screen. But still was a turn off for me.
Comming from EQ2 I was hoping the voice dialogue would be more like that.
No biggie really, was curious about the game and graphics. Saw what I wanted so am happy with that.
Problem with the 7-day trial is that the first 20 tutorial levels are so different from the rest of the game. Most people aren't going to be able to really figure out how they feel about the game until they hit the 40's.
Also seems silly to have offered the trial before the big patch. Typical FC strategy to talk up a big change after the next billing cycle.
Also is there a vet-return trial? Vets who left aren't going to be able to really see if the problems that caused many to leave have been addressed in 7 days if they have to start at level 1 with a new toon.

Not after the trial is up but surely after the new patch. I will happily cancel sub to LOTR and join AOC.
