DF (lack of) content was not intentional

KatrarKatrar Member Posts: 168

One of the stronger bulwarks (fixed lol) of fanboy defense of this game seems to be the "lack of content by design" IE pure pvp gameplay.

I know I can't be the only one that has not forgotten that a large amount of PVE was intended to be included in this game, but that it has been almost completely stripped out because they don't know how to scale. IE their technical design was fubared.

So, to fanboys: you are full of it. Pure PVP was never the intended focus of this game, there was a strong interest on the part of the devs to include PVE content. They droned on and on about the work they put into AI, the adventures to be had in exploration, etc.

They broke their own game and now, to cover your own failures of objectivity, it was according to you all by design.

After playing for 2 days, I found out the PVE aspect in darkfall was bare.  I mean, they gave us quests to kill 10 goblins...  when I showed up at the part to start killing them, everyone in the ENTIRE GAME was there... later found out that there are only certain specific small areas on the map around each town where the mobs were....  If you try to venture outside of the newbie zones, you would get ganked by 100's of people running around PKing...

I honestly don't know how people enjoy this game... :-  I mean, it was a botched launch... AND the game is bare... how can people defend it... :-|

imho I think they are defending it so strongly just because it is nothing like WoW... and to many people thats enough... i have yet to be able to play the game yet so my opinion doesn't really matter but my hopes are that other ''sandbox'' games will be able to learn from darkfalls highpoints and lowpoints

Too many people are looking for the next WoW or for something different than WoW so that they have something to feel good about it. Nowaday everyone who isn't playing WoW uses WoW as a negative. For example:

    "WoW clone"

    "Carebare WoW game"

And well we all hear them on these fourms. Like it or not WoW is popular becaue a lot of people enjoy it. I think it's just frustrating for the rest of us who feel like no other MMO is being given a serious chance with WoW monopolizing the MMO base.. so it can be frustrating.

Still I think some games deserve to be defend because they have their place, LotR, GW, CoH... I can understand... this on the other hand... just didn't work.

I think that is an insightful observation. However, I dont think that players who enjoy this game are all 'deluded'

Some people actualy like Darkfall even with its flaws. Yet we berate them for it as if we were scolding a small child. NOt everyone is a 'Fanboi', they are just players.

Basically this is true.   If you create a game and hype it as hardcore, sandbox,  make it FFA pvp with full loot and you will find 10,000 who will play it.   Out of  100 million people playing online games now, if you create the 'fight' between trolls and fanboys,  it is easy to find 10,000 people who will fight for your game after launch just because of their pre-launch hope... ie ego.

Your comment about players not all being deluded is spot on.  The problem is 'for how long'.   Almost every mmorpg is fun for the first few weeks... what will kill darkfall is what is killing warhammer...  very soon even the most hardcore pvpers will say " is this it? are we just going to run around naked month after month fighting the same towns/people".   There just are not enough gameplay and features in Darkfall to make it a real MMORPG... while people probably really do find it fun now.. will they really think it's fun after they've recaptured the same town 50 times in the next month?

Original Poster, thanks for  your comments.

Perhaps you are correct that some, or a lot, of the PvE content was intended and is now missing. In all honestly, I don't see it as a problem. The game doesn't appear to be broke, at least, not from the inside.

I was never a follower of Darkfall. I listened to the vaporware threads and wondered if it was truly a scam. But, original poster, I think you are wrong this time. The game clearly has a lot of "meat" to it, and more than "meets" the eye.

One of the things that impresses me the most is how good a game can be with "friendly fire". In my opinion, it makes the other MMORPG games seem fairly...weak and afraid.

Take World of Warcraft, for example. On an instanced run, I could play a Warlock, cast many AOE spells, and never even worry about hurting my allies.

Not so in Darkfall. Any spell you cast, and sword cut you make, can hurt those around you. A careless mage or fighter could kill his own party. To me, this makes the battle extremely more cautious.

Anyhow, I welcome your thoughts, but just wanted to say that if Darkfall promised PvE, I suppose that they'll have time to throw it in as weeks and months roll by. Either way, I'm extremely happy with what I'm seeing.

You will not be seeing any new Mob's or NPC's unless AV does a total overhaul of there game engine IMO.

I think they are content to just roll with what they have now.

I'm no fanboi, but you spend too much time analyzing the game to be right.

If there was nothing there the game would have died out. I've played the game, I enjoyed myself. I'm not stupid, I'm also not a rabid 'kill everyonen' pvp player. I like challenge and believe me there is enough challenge in Darkfall to make it exciting.

Why does the game fascinate the OP so much that he thinks about it instead of thinking about the game he is playing?

The reason is because there's something there. The game has what a very large percentage of players want. It's too bad that it's being developed by a small dev team led by an ego maniac, but even with all it's flaws it's what I'd choose to play over every other MMO out there.

So all the trolls can say how smart they are and how dumb anyone that tries Darkfall is, but they're here posting for a reason. They probably dreamed of playing a game that was what Darkfall was meant to be.

That may be so. If they can keep enough of a revenue stream to afford future improvements PVE may creep back in. My post was aimed at the players that keep asserting that PVE is not a component of Darkfall's design document, which it clearly is.

Let me be the first to say, if Darkfall was sold to a legit developer that had half a clue what they were doing and did not intend to cater to the .0001% pure PVP crown, I would be pretty excited about a game of its type.

That said, it hasn't been, it doesn't and I'm not.

I do, however, greatly relish the sort of intense forum pvp that only hardened Darkfall fanatics can provide. Ergo here I am. lol

Yeah at times it seems there is more pvp on the forums then ingame.

i think where the game failed was they let way to many exploiters run around for 2 weeks, plus when you run tot he middle of the map where the most hardcore mobs are supposed to be and you find empty building after another it does kinda get tiresome. the pvp side was great but when 100 naked bodies can run at you and kill a group of 50 well armed players its pretty stupid.

I agree with your last statement.. but the sad thing is that those people who are the fanbois tell anyone who dosn't like their game for whatever reason to "go back to WoW"..

Agreed. Most of the arguments flying around are from people who are concerned with how AV is handling things or the fact that Darkfall is a very niche game, thus is not suitable for most people. This is all good if DF "fanbois" countered their arguments with logical and intelligent  statements.

But, unfortunately, that is not the case. The so called fanbois are so ridiculous in defending their "holy grail" that they refuse to aknowledge any easonable argument by calling it "flames", calling the person "troll", etc etc.

A bright example is the person who (due to bad coding) was able to create an account with only 3 characters in it and then (after AV "fixed" that bug) was not able to log in into the game or resubscry. His tickets were closed without reason. What did "fanbois" do? They said its his fault for using "1337" speak username. His username was RiF.

Im tempted to call those rabid fanbois trolls, becuase they aren't actually helping DF, in fact, they are damaging its reputation by alienating other people with their behaviour and illogical thinking. It simply boggles my mind how anyone would be able to act like that under such circumstances. A normal fan would not do anything like that. I guess thats why fanboi is not a fan - fanbois would blame anything or anyone for their idol's misfortunes even if  its illogical, unreasonable or just plain stupid.

I am the type of player where I like to do everything and anything from time to time.

Ergo here I am. lol

It is that dose of ignorance that brings me back to post LOL

I would be curious as to who you declare as "legit"..

Blizzard ?   appeal to masses. Coding the lowest common denominator of MMO.

$OE ?  destroying games for be like blizzard.

AoC developer (forgot the name) ? refusing to create the the PvP game we favor.

WAR developer (forgot the name) ? refusing to create the PvP game we favor.

They refused the design that made DarkFall the most fun PvP game on the market. Aventurine did it .They legit .

    English it masters you!

legit dev that releases a pay to play beta of a game? Gimme a break, if av is legit then I could creat a flash game that allows 2 people to play and release it as a mmorpg with great graphics and be legit.

Repeat it , may i  care about it next time.

    -----MY-TERMS-OF-USE--------------------------------------------------
$OE - eternal enemy of online gaming
-We finally WON !!!! 2011 $OE accepted that they have been fired 2005 by the playerbase and closed down ridiculous NGE !!

"There was suppression of speech and all kinds of things between disturbing and fascistic." Raph Koster (parted $OE)

I bought darkfall last friday before I left school to head to my cousin's house for spring break and I think it sucked that I had to choose ork just so my ping would be low enough that I could kind-of-somewhat play and even then I still have teleporting goblins. The game itself doesn't really seem too bad though. I was kind of hoping for a more EVE-like experiance or even an Entropia Universe experiance sans the RCE-crap without all the tab, hotkey, wait combat.

I think it would be nice to have different things around the starter cities besides gangs of goblins and have the alignment system revamped to be more like EVE, but as far as PVE stuff there is only so much a developer seems able to do. Sure, they can add more stuff or expand the world, and I would like that stuff too, but really, at point is it just more of the same? Maybe differentiate gameplay mechanics?

I have to disagree with you on this point.  An FFA Full loot game is not what a large percentage of players want, in my opinion.  That's why this is called a "niche" game.  It will appeal to some, but not a large percentage.

The problem with the highlighted logic is that you would have to apply that to EVERY game on this site, lol!  Why is he here?  Probably because Darkfall is the biggest discussion atm.  To say that the only reason he's dissing the game is because the game has "something" is a little silly.  I also have to disagree with the "very large percentage of players want." comment.  That's why the most successful MMO's lately have those features, right?
