If it dosn't have to be free I would recommend Cod4 or TF2. Battlefield heroes is coming soon to and it's fun.
And I though it was a topic about frames per second
We're all Geniuses. Most of us just don't know it.
LOL ! btw is COD4 decent on the computer or better on consoles?

It's certainly easier to get good at on PC
Also less frustrating because you can find a server where they boot people who do annoying things like martyrdom and noob tube.
Your argument is like a two legged dog with an eating disorder...weak and unbalanced.
-Crysis (B2P F2P) : Although a lot of FPS truists hate this game, I thought it was kind of fun.The way you could change your combat style depending on what suit you wear, and the somewhat sandboxiness of the gameplay (for the first few levels anyway).
-SWAT4 (B2P F2P): A pretty good co-op SWAT simulator that's best played in groups of four. It's not a typical FPS in the sense that you aren't supposed to kill anyone in co-op modes, even though you can. Each co-op mode has a certain amount of points you can get per round, and the less people you kill per round, the more points you get. You're supposed to do everything you can to take down every enemy NPC by handcuffing them, by using smoke bombs, flash bangs, stun guns, etc.
-Prism Guard (F2P): Oh my god. This is without a doubt the most difficult FPS ever, ever. It's so much fun, but it's so hard. If you love co-oping in FPS games, and I mean really really love co-oping, you'll love this game. You can't solo anything, and you almost always need to be in a group to take down any of the co-op missions. Damage is done realistically in this game. Meaning if you get shot 1-3 times (depending on where you get shot), you die. There are no "health packets" either. Every NPC in this game also has sniper-like aiming. Co-op matches also pit you against ~100+ enemies at a time, too.
crossfire, a mmorpg
fear2 on pc
killerzone on psp
i dont much enjoy fps these are three ones i've played.
Team Fortress 2...
But if you're looking for a challenging game that takes a lot of skill and will make you better at all FPS's that you play from now on, I would say pick up Soldier of Fortune 2. Impossible to find at the store or online for a decent price... which leaves shadier methods of acquisition.
I believe it is still the greatest FPS, and any game that can update the graphics but mimic its playstyle would be an auto-buy in my book.
I tried Combat Arms, but it seems they never take the cheaters seriously, even as they ruin the game for those of us relying strictly on skill.
Day of Defeat Source is another possibility. Takes a bit of skill. Worthy of a few hours of your time.
I would say Left 4 Dead, but I bought it when it was 50% off and never played it. Might try it sometime.
Battlefield 2142, Frontlines: Fuel of War, Quake Wars, Crysis, Fear, and the Call of Dutys are all rubbish online.

If you want free FPS games,
Urban Terror - used to be a Quake 3 mod and became a standalone game, pretty fun and it got a big community for a free game.
Quake Live is at open beta now, it's basically Quake 3 but free, playing via browser. Worth a try.
Wolfenstein Enemy Territory is free to play, with objective based gameplay. It's a bit hard to understand at first, but you'll hardly have a problem finding servers, it got a big community as well.
F.E.A.R. Combat - the multiplayer for F.E.A.R. is completely free, also worth a try.
for which platforms?
Left 4 Dead, both a pc game & online game
Crossfire, i'm so much loving it
for which platforms?
PC, btw want is the community like (i.e. size and maturity) just asking because in WarRock you get ALOT of kids, any crticism and they reply by saying "YOUR MOM!"

I don't know if you are interested in a pay to play type FPS game but I recommend WW2 Online. It's listed here at MMORPG.com it's a subscription based game 14.99 per month and I've had an account for the past 3 years+ . Some like it some hate it but that goes for most games I suppose. They offer a 14 day Free trial (requires CC to authorize though) so be sure to cancel if you decide you don't like it to keep from being charged after the 14 day trial.
You download the entire game from the website. The majority of the players are adults from around the globe. You won't see alot of kiddies mouthing off here lol. One last thing BEWARE going into OFF TOPIC in their forums and posting lol. Especially if you post anything about WW2 Online. Common wiseass comments are...."There's a game that comes with OFF TOPIC??", etc etc.... Some of these folks subscribe to the game "ONLY" for OFF TOPIC lol. Anyway it's a very tight community in that game and should you choose to stay with the game find a Squad that plays often in your time slot to show you the ropes and have tons of fun with. S!
