Best PVP Game in the History of the world...

sgtalonsgtalon Member UncommonPosts: 129

Planetside.

If you like fast paced, action oriented pvp combat that rewards tactics over zerg - Planetside is it.

I have been away from it for a long time and after playing a ton of other games i went back to it and i am shocked at how great it is.

No crafting. No killing 500 flaming mushrooms, no stupid quests, no endless waiting for camps, or "Raid Drama"

No artificial limits on anything and a guy that started yesterday can kill a guy that has been playing for 5 years. Just not with as many different weapons.

Anyone disagree?

If that's your list of what you would like in a PvP game, then i agree that's the best PvP game in the history of the world for you.

I will agree, Planetside in it's hayday was a pretty damn good game.

If it had some money sunk into it, some very high band servers and a nice population, I would even play it again.

However last time I played it, PS was pretty dead.

Sad to see a game that only needed some money and love die in such a fashion.

I do, I'll vote for UO.
Probably more to do with the timing of the game than with the core mechanics, but PvPing in UO was an incredible experience. No classes, you never knew the capabilities of the guy you were about to attack, no gear-grinds and just a big honking bundle of fun in the time before MMOGs became mainstream and were overtaken by the eSport crowd.
    I also miss my tower.

Even though it was one of the better PVP MMOs I played, I definitely wouldn't call it the best PvP game. I prefered old school UO for small scalle PvP and old school DAOC for large scale PvP.

    DAoC hands down!

Yea I had a blast in planetside for a while... till I heard the Cha-Chink of Jackhammer's and the Boom Boom of Mech's.  Ya sniper's get faces melted by mech's and jackhammers.

    Problem OP is this.

Planetside was made for a very specific crowd of player, it always was.

This crowd was the Counterstrike 1.X crowd and the Quake/Unreal crowd.

Not many of these types of gamers here on MMORPG. These are all fantasy/sci-fi people. You are going to get a phone book of UO and DAoC responses.

Though I will agree to me at least DAoC was the best PvP game ever created.

I still feel as though from my FPS perspective. Planetside was a damn good attempt to cash in on that market. It was a good game for the time.

For me, UO pre Trammel/Feluca, DAOC pre TOA and Asherons call pre everyone being level 150+

That's a big thing that I enjoyed about UO PvP - identifying your enemy's strengths and weaknesses and using your team's strengths to defeat them.

I actually quiit Planetside because of the problems with the lag and some of the game mechanics were still being worked out. It didn't help that at the time i was still on Dial up!

Now that i have gone back I am finding that the gameplay is exactly what i have been looking for in every other MMO when it comes to a PVP type game.

    I have not played UO.

But i have done EQ1 on a PVP server. That was a tough game for PVP very harsh and harsh penalties. For an immersion game that was great for me. When the populations started dropping on the servers it got boring.

EQ2 didn't have PVP when i played and i hear the couple PVP servers they have now suck.

I played DAOC - I agree that teh PVP for that game was pretty fun. The Battleground stuff had some epic fights but there was a limit on how many people could be involved before it was a lagfest.

I played Anarchy Online - PVP was interesting.

I played SWG - The PVP sucked. I hear it was improved a lot after i left.

I played every Space MMO - the only one that was decent was EVE. I actually am still playing EVE. The 0.0 PVP is not the best.  A lot of pointless sailing around looking for some poor schlub that gets caught out and just wants to get away. I could never get into that. Unless there was an Alliance my Alliance was going up against it usually sucked. I am trying out the Faction Warfare now. Death is painful in EVE though. As an Immersive MMO i think EVE is probably the most complex and in-depth game ever. I really like that kind of thing.

I played Final Fantasy Online - that game sucked.

I played Warhammer thinking the PVP would be awesome - it wasn't. That game was a seriously flawed concept. Lots of great ideas but they made too many ways to weasel out of making PVP good.

I forget all of the other games. But i have not been withough an MMO active since EQ1.

Planetside seems to have solved most of the things that hurt the game in the early days. I have been back playing for a week or 2 and i find that i don't even want to log into EVE! And i love EVE.

BTW i refused to ever play WOW. I want my MMO's to be more complex not a 3D Runescape. I hear the PVP can be fun but it doesn't sound like it is as openly accessible as Planetside.

    Just my opinion.

And i love playing BF2 and Counterstrike too. When you only have 30-60 minutes to play, a game like that is perfect. You can get in and have a lot of fun even if you are only on for a little while.

I agree with DAOC. Not because it had the best system. But you really wanted to win and you hated the other side.

So, what makes your game so much better than Infantry (in 2001), which was the real best PvP game in the history of the world?

I agree with you completely man, Planetside was the best MMO experience I have ever had. It was the badass vehicles, crazy weapons, and intense action. It makes me sad they let it die :(

DAoC. Would love to see a DAoC 2 with updated graphics.

The best PvP game is the history of the world is still going to a bar, getting drunk, and picking a fight with some random stranger.  It's been around for centuries, and millions of people play it every weekend.

Wait I thought Settlers of Catan was the best PvP game.    It has sooo many self balancing aspects, game balancing, and pacing concepts that it's amazing.

Oh wait you're talking about MMOs.   Now that is a whole nother story, and one that isn't ever worth arguing about.   You could make an arguement for almost any game having good PvP aspects, even games that don't have it at all because you could tout PvE accomplishments and market competition as well.

I find it amazing that by 2020 first world countries will be competing to get immigrants.

I enjoyed pvp in a few MMOs not sure if there is a clear winner for me.

    Wrong!

Street Fighter 2 is, if you were there in the early 90s in the arcades where real players waged real PvP you'd know this...;P

I prefer Guildwars, at least for arena typed PvP. But as I see it, no game do have particulary good alround PvP.

Either Asherons Call or Planetside for me. Never played DAOC or UO so I can't comment on them.

Sadly, I was around 11 when I played AC so I didn't do much PvP, but what little I did was a blast. I was a lowbie, but I was still effective in PvP, which was great, unlike some other games... CoughWoWCough.
