PvP vs. PvE server selection

Hi all,

I'm not sure which way to go, and I'm hoping to get some advice from anyone.

I enjoy PvP, and so far I've only selected PvP servers in every MMO I've played. I just have a few questions about this choice for Spellborn:

1) Since it seems like there's no rewards for world PvP, what's the point?

2) On a PvE server, is it easy to find good PvP action? Especially with the Arena skirmishes and leagues I read about?

3) Which server is more populated, PvE or PvP? Or are they about the same?

4) What advice do you have for which one to pick?

Thanks for any help!

It depends. If you want organized PvP, play on the PvE server. If you want to run around ganking people left and right going "lolpwnzjurmom" then I suggest the PvP server.  At the moment, there is no incentive for PvP, however, Shard Control is planned in which houses can PvP and quest to take control of certain shards. We don't have all the details on this yet however. But the overall plan for the game is for House vs House conflicts on the PvE server. As for the PvP server, it will be there, only with more random ganking and anarchy. There are quite a few higher level areas on the PvE server that are considered "PvP" grounds as well. As for general fighting, the Arena district on Quarterstone is going to get an actually functional arena for people to go nuts in on both servers in the near future.

Something I'll mention as an aside, just because you seem pretty gun-ho with the PvP, the game really is more about the lore and such. PvP will be there, and there will be the house battles and stuff, but a large sum of the game is going to be questing and reading the lore, not so much fighting other players, at least not until later on when the House wars get into full swing, and even then, it's going to be more of a side dish/something to keep the end game going while new content is added.

Thanks for the reply. The PvE server does seem tempting.

Any idea on the populations relative to each other?

Unfortuantely, haven't been to the PvP server myself, so not sure. The PvE servers population is relatively healthy though. The inclusion of a global House chat has helped keep people together. The game world is pretty big, so the playerbase is a bit spread out, but that being said, I haven't been anywhere that I haven't run into at least a few people running around (Well, with the exception of one level 40 PvP area I discovered tucked away somewhere). I liken it to the early days of EQ. Some places aren't terribly populated for one reason or another, and there are the usual large clusterings/favorite places where you'll find bunches of people running around.  Best advice I can give is to try and find a guild. Most of them are fiarly experienced and can let you know what to expect later on in the game, and can help you out if you need it.

Side note: You can technically do arena PvP from the start if you wish. In the trial area in the upper right of the map there is a place called The Mosh Pit which is PvP enabled. There was actually a pretty good turnout when we had the PvP event there on the PvE server.
