Cartoons, lvl 600 and the epic grind.. err, story

... only this time, they have added a good story to it.

2. Mindless grind. Check.

3. Known IP. Check.

4. Dumbed down PvP in zones/instances. Check.

5. 12+/retard rating. Pending.

Oh, im so looking forward to running around in this safe pre-teen cartoonish PvE world with evenly spaced out mobs to grind now when i have a nice story attached to it! Cant wait to kill mobs with my light-saber instead of my iron-saber! And use "the force" instead of magic!!!11eleven!

And we are all going to be uber powerful jedis! (once we grind our way to lvl 600, wich should only take 8 years if you play 12 hours a day btw)

Cant wait!

You know what, i think this game will actually beat WoW. This is the game that will "take over" the throne as the nr 1 best selling/most played MMO in the world. Mark my words and shove them down my throat if im wrong.

It has everything WoW has + a good story.

And while everyone are grinding their way to level 16 million, as the silly fools they are, im going to cry me a river on these forums about me not getting an intelligent game to play, as the old bitter person that i am.

So, what have i missed? Whats new with this game? Whats the big difference from WoW?

Its an honest question btw, because i cant find anything on the official site, that is there to describe the game, that is new. Nothing. NOTHING. Zero. Zip. Nada. All WoW clone. Probably the same source code.

Well, you don't need to play it. You can try Warhammer instead, an awful game but maybe it's something for you...

"Whats the big difference from WoW?"

    Uhm ... no orcs?

Nah, seriously; the possible option to switch sides sounds like a big difference.

And wow is more group oriented than SWToR it seems. Since it looks like it will have Guildwars like npc henchmen and single player instances and is 'personal story driven'.

Oh, the vast worlds might be quite a lot bigger than what we've seen in WOW.

the worlds will probably be bigger and more immersive, it will also probably have bigger solo components since theyre focusing on making the stories very unique and individualistic. Ultimately its using the no.1 MMO out there as a template in what theyve done right, and adding some extras that will only improve the already solid structure that blizzard has presented gamers with. For one, the genre is not as black and white as iron sabers vs. lightsabers, the general story is the same good vs. evil, but then again how many stories arent based on good vs. evil. Star Wars story is totally different than the warcraft story when looked into detail and one of the main differences is its memorable characters that many more can identify with (because of the movies and larger franchise) in conjunction with its unique universe. Because of that bioware is going to use and focus on those two giant differences to make this game something different and hopefully better than WoW.

WoW has a great game and franchise backing them, but what bioware is trying to do cannot be matched by anything out there, only because Star Wars is so much more popular and identifiable that people would rather play Luke over the Lich King any day. How many people love or even know star wars in comparison to those who love/know warcraft? Warcrafts story and universe is great but pales in comparison to Star Wars and bioware is going to milk that. That is what is going to set this game apart from WoW, assuming of course everything goes according to plan.

Basically - unique universe and story which will lead to a greater connection to character, which is what i always felt i lacked in WoW. Hopefully the story is going to have as big as an impact as they say it will.....

I think the big difference from WoW is the fact that it isnt WoW. which makes it AWESOME

  • RawrXPRawrXP Member Posts: 42

I really think this guy accidently came to this website. Maybe just a troll. Either way, this game has not really said anything. There's no way to say any of what you said will be there.

And since when is a high level cap a bad thing? personally, I can't stand low level caps. Even if the levels take longer to get, it ends up leaving me feeling empty.

ADD: Not to mention the fact that he is mocking Star Wars... Which really isn't a good thing to do on the internet.

It is WoW it just has Wars after it, a collon, followed by TOR.

Has there been a confirmed level cap announced for ToR? Bioware has been doing western style RPG's for decades, at this point I'm pretty much holding out hoping for a D&D style lvl20 cap or at least some kind diminishing returns in level increases.

On the subject of WoW, I think the comparisons are way overboard. When I first read the pre-release info it seemed to me like the devs were borrowing more from Guild Wars than WoW, the GW system is far more suited for an in-depth story heavy MMO as ToR supposedly is.

If it makes you happy, the level cap in the KotOR games was 20. So there's a good chance they would have that low of a leveling cap

the only reason the level cap is 20 in KOTOR is because it's entirely based around the 3rd edition dungeons and dragons level system.

Plan on it being higher in this....

Sence you broke it down to 5 parts Ill go along and correct your mistakes

    1) Cartoons, Star Wars the Clone Wars and Star Wars the Old Republic are not even in the same millenium. Star Wars the Old Republic takes place 3,500 years before Episode 1. During the Sith Wars Yoda talks about. If your not talking about the cartoon on C artoon Network then you are also wrong about how the graphics are going to look like because Bioware is leaking info on the game slower than Blizzard. WHich in my opinion means that there will be less bugs at launch.

    2) Mindless Grind *sigh* name 1 MMORPG that isnt a mindless grind. Every MMO I have played it has been a mindless grind to get to max level(Which Bioware has still yet to say what their max level is for Star Wars the Old Republic)

    3) Known IP: There is only so much they can do with a Star Wars MMO its not like AD&D where they have several campeigns they can deal with.

    4) Dumbed down PvP in zones/Instances: Bioware has only came out with info on 1 class. It is kind of impossible to tell how pvp is going to be handled when the only class they have released info about is the Bounty Hunter. I dont know about you but I do not want to play a Bounty Hunter.

5)12+/Retard Rating. Umm All MMORPG's have either a T for Teen Rating (TEEN: Titles rated T (Teen) have content that may be suitable for ages 13 and older. Titles in this category may contain violence, suggestive themes, crude humor, minimal blood, simulated gambling, and/or infrequent use of strong language.) or a M for Mature (MATURE Titles rated M (Mature) have content that may be suitable for persons ages 17 and older. Titles in this category may contain intense violence, blood and gore, sexual content and/or strong language.), Right now SWtOR has this for its rating (RATING PENDING Titles listed as RP (Rating Pending) have been submitted to the ESRB and are awaiting final rating. (This symbol appears only in advertising prior to a game's release.)) Thats because the game is still in development and the ESRB board has yet to be given a copy of it to stick a rating on it, give the game more time before you slap what you believe the rating should be. on top of that you need to be atleast 18 to even register the game as most MMO's require a credit card at launch and that in it self means you need to be 18. If you want to blame anyone for the average age of gamers then blame the parents who buy the games not the developers who make it.

"Possibly we humans can exist without actually having to fight. But many of us have chosen to fight. For what reason? To protect something? Protect what? Ourselves? The future? If we kill people to protect ourselves and this future, then what sort of future is it, and what will we have become? There is no future for those who have died. And what of those who did the killing? Is happiness to be found in a future that is grasped with blood stained hands? Is that the truth?"

basically the only thing you have on the game is the graphics, everything else is fabracated out of lack of information out on TORO as of right now. We don't know that much about the game, so what are you trying to get out saying the game is going to suck like every other MMO? Because, we know it will suck. We will just play it anyway and enjoy a new repreave in the star wars universe.

Currently restarting World of Warcraft :/

No, seriously, i will probably try it out. Its Star Wars after all.

Im just trying to piss you off to get some nice nifty features i have missed thrown in my face.

Right now the "we have a great story"-feature seems to be the only thing thats different from WoW.

But i understand if they havent released any more info, sucks, but thats life i guess. Oh well back to google.

Can't really tell why you made this post in the first place. You obviously don't know squat about video games. Let me teach you since you don't seem to know much. Video games are categorized into genres, just like movies. There are first person shooters, sports, rpg, rhythm games (like guitar hero), and mmorpgs. Each game under each genre can be compared to other games of the same genre since they are very similar, but doesn't seem like you understand that for some odd reason. One football video game is very similar to all other footbal games. One mmorpg game is very similar to all other mmorpgs. WoW just happens to be one of the best selling video games under the mmorpg genre, just like Madden to football, or Halo to FPS, you don't need to say that this is a clone of WoW. WoW wasn't even the first mmorpg, some other well known ones include Dark Age of Camelot or Everquest that were released before WoW and is WoW not a clone of those games? Your statements are all invalid. It's like me saying that Halo sucks since its a clone of every other first person shooter. They are all the same since they are part of the same genre of video games, they all just have different graphics, stories, and features. Hope this helps you understand what video games are now.

I agree with the sentiment of this post, but let me try to change the vision a bit.

Imagine playing KotOR.  Now imagine that when you beat it, you can just walk around a hub (max 20 players), trade random stuff that doesn't matter, and have meaningless interactions with other players ( for example, it is meaningless to have someone craft you something in WoW ).

So imagine KotOR with WoW crammed in on the end, not WoW with kotor crammed in.

I can just picture it now:  if you remember the sith parts of kotor on korriban, imagine the sith leader is the quest hub, and he just keeps saying the same thing to every player (like WoW), and then everyone (without interacting with each other) runs out and camps that cave for a while, then goes back for another quest.  Rinse repeat, rinse repeat.  Sure, the story will be great, but you won't feel like a character in a world...you'll feel like you are playing a game ( zero immerison ).

    I do hope I'm wrong though :)

Mindless grind, OP?  Where is that even implied. From what I've seen, the devs are going out of their way to emphasize that their new and unprecedented story-based levelling system.  How do you get "grind" out of that?  From what they're saying, we don't even know if there will be any grind at all.
