i've never heard hyborea or any of howard's writings described as "boring" before.

if anything, the only reason i came back to AoC was FOR the setting.  which is one of the few things they got half-right last may.

As a world to set an MMO in, it's pretty boring.  Everyone wears the same brown sack.  That just doesn't work well in a gear driven, level based MMO.  The bad part is, you have to upgrade from a new looking brown sack to an old ripped blood-stained one.

If you bothered reading the stories, you would understand the reasoning behind it. The world is far from boring for an MMO, as the lore is much more rich and has more depth than nearly all IPs out in MMOs now. Complaining that the world is boring because of the clothing shows how little you understand about the world of Conan.

When you think about it, designing a game so that to enjoy it you have to have read a specific book first is just asking to fail. (Which is the direction the game was going before the change of management.) And to BarCrow if you mean that despite the fact that knowing that your character has been living in the wilderness and is dirty and has been fighting for years you still want him to look clean with wicked armor, that is pretty much what I'm looking for. I say screw accuracy if it means my character doesn't look good. See: the Final Fantasy series (and pretty much everything else that has come out of Square Enix). Pretty much every character from their games are supposed to be hardened veterans with the battle experience of a 4 star general, yet nobody cares that they aren't scarred and dirty because they look so damn cool.

Just my opinion...but I don't think you need to read a specific conan story to play the game...but reading just one of them would be recommended.    As far as the fashion issue...I guess it just depends on the game..really. In Conan ...I have no problem with the way armor/clothing look...I like the realism ..as it fits the stories...the gritty pulp style of Robert E. Howards writings..and the feel of Hyborea in general.   However....having also played many Final Fantasy games (mmo not included)....I would not expect or like this style in a final fantasy mmo...so more polished..wicked..anime style armour...with effeminate featured male toons would be expected...and would not bother me in the least.  But if they make a Cthulu mmo....and everything looked cartoony and clean...that would piss me off...to no end. It really is dependent on the genre/IP and the mood of the game.(and ,of course, personal tastes)

I don't care about the books the game is based on any more than the average MMO gamer does.  I just care how the game plays, and itemization in this game is utter shit.  If itemization is limited based solely on the game's lore, then it's a terrible IP to base a standard Gear driven, level based MMO on.  You completed the uber leet dungeon raid, here's a dirty potato sack dress as your reward....
