Still worth getting this game?

sushimeessushimees Member Posts: 489

I played the first version of Guild Wars long time ago. I did all the missions (I think) and I also liked the PvP (still playing Shadowbane). But I kinda quit because our guild fell apart and I kinda moved away from this game.

So I was thinking of coming back and since there's a Guild Wars collection pack in stores for a good price. I thought it would be a good idea. But before I dish out the cash, I wanted to know if PvP is still good and if there's enough people playing on the European servers.

Thank you.

I'd definitely recommend you pick it up, it's a steal for that price. You won't even get that many single player games worth playing in a pack for that price.

Since you left, Hard Mode has been introduced, which gives replayablity value to the missions you have already completed. But you need not worry about that considering you've got so many missions to complete in the 2 campaigns and expansion you haven't touched yet. PvP is as good as always.

The European servers have a healthy population, but you can freely switch between American, European and some Asian districts from in-game now, meaning most people tend to congregate in the American districts (which are always busy, regardless of the time of day).

im still playing GW pretty much every day
still seeing new people discovering the game for the 1st time
and old guildies coming back after thier hiatus

the game is still very much alive with monthly skill updates and quarterly content updates
by the end of april, we'll see the 1st of those content updates
so its still worth playing IMO

Seems good, just wondering if I can get into a solid guild since there is that rank problem that a lot of guilds require from you.

I've never been denied entry to a guild due to my rank before...

Still worth getting?  It's still the best game ever made!  And it's cheaper now than it used to be, too.

I played this game in the beginning and then left. Picked it back up recently, and am enjoying it - especially now that I have Nightfall with the Hero feature.  I would recommend it, espedcially nice when you consider there is no monthly $ due.

They modified PvP structure a bit over the years. Finding groups in Random and Team arenas shouldn't be as problem, as regional barriers have been taken down, so you'll just be matched /w other servers if your own is empty.

Skill balance wise, there have been alot of improvements, nerfs and boosts have been happening monthly, and despite the usual bitching, I'd say most of them are for the better, so there's considerably more room for variety than there was as early as a year ago.

Well, the game is free to play. And they change things often, plus holiday events.  For a free to play game, it is a great buy. Get bored of it after a while? Take a break for a few months, come back and...you don't have to reactivate?! You just keep playing for free!

Joining guilds that play GvG and HA daily may prove pretty hard if you're completely unranked, but there are some new guilds that look for such players, although they typically don't get very far... But farming your bambi (r3 hero, the HA title) isn't very hard, just check what's the lameway meta (IWAY or Mathway nowadays) and then just play that. You'll need much patience though. Once you're past r3 it gets slightly easier, especially since you then can find a guild easier and start doing organized HA. If you're looking for a PvE guild as far as I've seen they never ask for titles.
