I play lots of online games. I am a founder of LOTR online. I return form time-to-time. Haven't been back for about a year. Thought I better check in. Bought a new copy of the game with the new expac. Installed it. Played one night. Tried to log on this morning. Can't connect to servers. Went to tech forums. It said the servers are so twitchy, that new content, like fixes, may send your game into Firewall Blocked Hell. I followed the instructions for allowing their 3 connections through windows firewall(It didn't matter if I turned all my security completely off, still couldn't connect to server), Now I have a new and different reason for not being able to connect it says. It just timed out before. Now it says there isn't a socket. I think this could go on and on. Way too much annonyance factor and logs thrown in your path to play this game, when other games are just plug and play. What has happened to this game? I see this problem is very common from the forums and post.

Just to point out here... People always seem to assume that something that has a lot of posts is a "very common problem". If LOTRO has 200k subscribers, and 100 people are having a problem, then that is only .005% of the population. To even CONSIDER it as a common problem, I would say that at least 5% of the community would need to have a problem, and even then.. 5% is not considered common, and especially not "very common". And, if it WAS 5% of the population, it would be 10,000 people, and trust me, their forums would have crashed if that many people had the problem.
In the end, only people with problems go to the forums most of the time. People that don't have the problem, are usually in game.
However, I don't pretend to say that your problem is not real. I feel bad about it, and I hope you get a solution ASAP. I just would not call it very common, based on 10-20 people on the forums.
Your response was a great help. Carry on.

I am trying to figure out what your issue is, you are not very clear. Care to take another stab at it?
If its a router issue, do a test and direct connect to the modem. Other than that, this seems to be an issue on your end. You said you were able to play, but now, can't. There has not been any patches lately, so something on your end changed. (Not that a patch or content has ANYTHING to do with connections or routing)

Um, I'd like to know your definition of "common". Outside of the servers going down last week I have yet to experience anything that keeps me from logging in.
Well, for some reason I cannot log in either. Not sure what happened. I played last night with no problems and this morning I can't log on. All the worlds show as down in my launcher.
hmmm, it's just that in the last week or two they had some issues. It's not very common and this is the first time since launch that I can remember them having an issue like this.

I played this game and loved it - up to the Mines of Moria expansion. After that my old computer could not keep up with the lag. I think the problem is that LOTRO became popular, now everyone wants to play it and the servers get clogged. My opinion only.
Alot of the servers have become overpopulated, mostly Brandywine, which has always been over populated. Today I'm having trouble logging into the game at all, but typically I never have an issue.
not windfola...so hard for me to find appropriate level groups.
It's not overpopulation per se, it's just that there is someone sort of bug in Book 7 and the heavily populated servers are more affected. (For a while they had to be rebooted daily).
The actual population of this game, even on the big 3, doesn't seem very high, and I'm basing this on cruddy (for the most part), free to play games.

I haven't had any issues of late with the log-in. About a month ago, the turbine downloader was giving me issues, but I took the files out of the backup folder and haven't had an issue since. I hope your problem gets resolved soon.
