Hey everyone. I've been reading up on Lineage 2. Kind of teetering on at least trying it if there is a trial period. I guess I'm kind of quezzy on the fact of the PvP, getting ganked, and possibly losing everything you worked hard for. I'm really a PvE'er. I am horrid at PvP.
Though, I'm probably gonna shoot myself in the foot for saying this. I do play RF Online. Yes, I know: "LAWLZ! U PLAY RF ONLINE AND U R COMPLAINING BOUT PVPZ?!?!1!!!?" Wow...I think my IQ just dropped 58 points just typing that. Anyways. Yes, I know I might be sounding hypocritical. I understand that. But I feel alot safer in RF Online when I know 10 Accretians are there to back me up while I'm leveling. Besides they seem to keep the bulk of the PvP in the Crag Mines in the game. I'm not getting that sense with Lineage 2.
I guess what I'm asking is, are there assurances that I won't lose everything that I worked hard for while I'm leveling? Can I level in peace without getting jumped 15 times a day? Will I be able to learn about the class I play with some measure of serentity? If I explore, can I explore without the fear of saying "Oh god...I'm never gonna get my corpse back." because someone enjoys corpse camping?
And please, don't tell me what you think I want to hear. I would really appreciate honest answers. I think it's pretty clear I'm a PvE'er.
But also. I would like to know your experiences about the game. What is the benefits? What are the classes like? Can I solo? There are more but you might answer them as you answer the other questions.
Thank you all for your time.

Dont join clans if you dont want to pvp. Solo like I did. uptil leel 62 you get free buffs from town that last for 60mins after that its upto whether you want to dualbox a buffer/healer for your dd.
However, if you like crafting a bit I warn you not to come here. In towns when you set up sell/buy store you crash very often. I am personally going to unsubscribe my two accounts because of this. No stability in economics. No point to theorycraft if your calculator dont work.
If NCSoft would simply implement a market it would drastically fix their rampant inflation issues and give a bit more realistic prices for new players.
Always thought it was funny that they would invest so much time in alternate armors and such for new players when simply fixing the issue would be easier.
I thought RF Online was closed down
CCR is running RFOnline. Codemasters shut down their servers but CCR picked them back up.
Anyone else want to share their info about Lineage 2 and if I should get involved with it?
Thank you.
I've been playing this game for almost 20 months and have never had any regrets.
If you do not like to PvP you can still enjoy Lineage2. Being a PvE player can be very exciting and beneficial.
When you die you do not leave a corpse like in WoW. The game just teleports you to the nearest village.
As for PvP players they usually do not kill characters without clan so you do not have to worry that somebody will harras you all the time.
If you just want to farm and build your charater without being bothered you should definitely give L2 a chance.
The system as it is now puts the power in the hands of the seller, not the buyer. If they were to implement an Auction House (which is what I think you are saying when you say "market") then they would put the power in the hands of the buyer.
In the current system, sellers get to sell for what they think they can get and buyers have to be more on their toes and actually go search the market. It makes the cities more alive and really lends to an exciting market system.

Op, I can go on and on and on about this game, both what I think is good and bad.
However, there has been so much written about this game, especially on these forums that I highly encourage you to do some searching.
Seriously.
But I will say this, you can get by with minimal pvp opportunities but you have to accept that you will be ganked on occasion. Even if people don't attack you if you are not in a clan (which is a HUGE mistake I might add - more on that later) you will eventually be hit by the random pk'er (not so much at higher levels though some servers have their notorious griefers) and of course if you are in a desired spot you might have to fight to keep it or move on.
You will not lose anything as far as gear unless you are red (player killer) and have over 5 pk's. Otherwise you will lose some xp.
If you have no intention of joining a clan then don't play this game.
There, I've said it.
The caveat to that is that if you don't mind grinding all the way to the upper levels just to do it then sure, play this game.
But this game is ABOUT the clan experience. It is also about politics and player vs player interaction. However, there are clans that do more PvE and they do have a decent time of it. But they are in clans and not solo.
Given the nature of this game, you need to get into a clan in order to take advantage of groups. Or be extremely outgoing and social.
But do not be surprised if you are disappointed because you don't get pick up groups. Most groups are based off of clans. Part of that is also because players are sometimes loathe to invite unknown/unclanned people to group as they could be spies.
Also, you will need clan help just to get equipment as mats are hard to come by for certain things.
It's an incredible game with a lot to offer but it is a game based off of player vs player interaction. So in the very least you need to join a clan.
You might want to consider DG on Phoenix Throne server. Contact Oaks. They are primarily PvE with some PvP. There are others but that is the one that comes to mind.

I just wanted to say that I've played this game pretty extensively (primarily in the level 1-50 range) on and off for about 3 years, and I can count the number of times I've been randomly ganked on a 3 fingered hand :P. So, honestly, I wouldn't let that sway your decision. There's just way too much punishment and not really any reward (that I know of anyway) for ganking, so most people don't do it.
As for the game itself, overall - all I can say is, be ready for a nice, long grind. Rest assured though, the game has become much simpler within the last year or so with all the new player changes. The vitality system was added which increases your experience gain substantially overall, new player buffs are available up until level 62, and lower level gear has become much more accessible, even to those without a clan. I will definitely second what Sovrath said though - find a clan as soon as you can. The game becomes infinitely better with the right people. In fact, in all the mmos I've played throughout the years, I can't think of another that has given such a meaningful guild experience. What I mean is, considering how the game is designed, there's much more to being in a clan in L2 than just having a few friends to chat with. You form much tighter bonds with people since you really rely on each other, in many different ways.
As for servers, if you're NA, I'd advise you to give Phoenix a try. It's the highest pop NA server, so there's always people around. Conversely, if you're more interested in a RP experience, Aria is the unofficial RP server, and it's got a pretty decent population as well. If you're a Euro player, I'd advise you go with the Teon server. It's apparently the largest of the Euro servers, and I've heard many good things.
Anyway, I'd say it's certainly worth the try. I don't believe there's a trial available, but if you can find someone kind enough to send you a buddy key, that will work just as well. Or, if you have a gamestop nearby, call them up and see if they still have any of the Chronicle 5 editions collecting dust up there. You can get it for 10 dollars and you get a total of 45 days of free play (with the added time card that's included). Even better, I bet if you looked around on Amazon, you could get it for a few bucks, brand new.
I'm thinking of starting back up myself soon since I'll finally have some free time, so if you decide to give Phoenix a try, maybe I'll catch you around . Good luck!
