These are all from the korean retail release so the still in beta argument really doesent apply.
Well considering I played in the Korean aion for 4 months and now I am playing in the Chinese OB. Exp rates are the same for both clients, the only difference is Korea had a cap of lvl45 in OB and china has a cap of 30.
I have played my share of grinders over the years (silkroad comes to mind). Saying aion is a grinder like all the other asian game's at this point are just blind.......I you don't want to play the game when it's released in NA/EU ok find, I can understand that. But before you start spewing shakey facts around maybe you should test the product out first.....just saying.

found it be not grindy at all. there was alot of quests with akiora village, and up north to the mine and moving north by the time i was lvl 8 almost. was pretty fun. the graphics arent something to write home about as far as "cutting edge" but the wonderful texture work is phenomonal so makes up alot for the fact there isnt much shader use. overall the design, style was very manga/anime style, fitting for the game, so i found it be both beautiful and complex while running pretty well even on 2x AA @ 1680x1050 maxxed settings. it was bit boring at first, but once u near lvl 6-8 its start getting a bit better, and you start getting better starter gear, and if your lucky a few greens will drop.
I also like how you can 'socket" your gear which is nice, i put like 3 parry +12, a +12 accuracy on my sword, +20 shield defens bonus, its was only chain, but felt acommplished as I started moving my spells to lvl 7-8+ such as resolute strike, shield def, etc also having shout skill adding dmg and then top it off with resolute strike after since the CD times well between. overall id say the game is looking good. Obviously there is things they have to work out such as localization, cultural differences make it more western friendly. Im not sure i noticed any bots on the server i was on but the game is really taking off takes me an hour + to get onto the server lol.
please dont be offended by this oversimplification but its like lineage2 + craploading of questing, some nice crafting, but i say it in a nice way, cause the PVP from what i hear is good, flight isnt really useful considering the stat penalities you incur, but pve wise its pretty good, a major step up from Lineage 2 ever was. has a good AH, so you dont have to sit your computer on all damn night with a player shop like lineage2 (one of the aspects of lineage2 i always hated) in fact already akiroira village is starting to get a influx of player shops. why on earth do they come who knows, with a bow going for 34,000 (whatever the money is called) thats a bit steep. but despite this the game has grown on me.
One question to whoever can answer this for me, what the hell do minor shards do? are they like Soulshots? if so? how the hell do i activate them??
3.4ghz Phenom II X4 965, 8GB PC12800 DDR3 GSKILL, EVGA 560GTX 2GB OC, 640GB HD SATA II, BFG 1000WATT PSU. MSI NF980-G65 TRI-SLI MOBO.
Try to keep in mind that this is still beta..and isn't live..lots of tweaks to go still Also, as far as "grindy" you also have to consider that as well as FF players coming over you have A LOT of Lineage 2 players who are also chomping at the bit to play this game. From what I've experienced and seen, this is going to be less grindy than L2..which for us is a HUGE BENEFIT.
Personally, if you are looking to be max level in a week after release..I mean..Wow..there's another game out there for you.
Look people are getting so cliche it's just annoying. Everything is either "grindy" or "a wow clone" get real.
There are two types of grind.. good kinda and bad kind... it's totally a matter of opinion. Pretty much any MMO RPG has a grind of some sort be it levels or titles or whatever. Don't act like it's a shocking surprise.. And personaly I would love to grind in a game that I'm having a blast in. If it's fun, what do I care?
Sorry just sick of people being so simple minded and complaining over silly things like this. It's an mmo*RPG*.. deal with it or move on. No one really cares.

Yea they are soulshots, You have two small open slots above your char's head in the inventory window, Double click on them and they will auto-move to the slots. To activate /deactivate them press B or go into your emotion's "action" screen and look for the the sword with the lightning around it and place and use that in your quick slot (it's on the page with the sit command).

It's an expensive habit though. I found it just easier to ignore it till 15/16ish as melee. Completely useless as a Caster IMHO.
In War - Victory. In Peace - Vigilance. In Death - Sacrifice.

Agree ^^ worthless for a nuker (sell them in AH). for melee classes, save them for pvp later on in the abyss.

First fact: He is missing around 30% of the quests of the Korean release, because as you can read, he didn't count group quests or abyss quests.
Second fact: Since that moment, tons of quests have been added, specially with the latest huge patch, which focused on the endgame content.
Third fact: A new patch is about to be released with even more content for the endgame.
So, in short, old and biased information is old, and biased.
