Is there any way to play this game with a gamepad?

I'd love to play with an Xbox 360 controller, but I've heard Gameguard doesn't allow it?

Does anyone know if it's at all possible, or if Devs have mentioned it being possible in the future?

why would you...and so many new gamers....(cause this is a new gamer issue) want to?

Is it so hard to play with WASD and the mouse buttons? Controllers are so slow in comparison.....and the "easy way" to me (except that they are totally slower in response time...but /meh)

"This may hurt a little, but it's something you'll get used to. Relax....."

I'm not trying to use it for hardcore tournament level competition.

It's often just fun to sit back and play it console-style. It feels more casual than a mouse/keyboard.

It's not that I prefer it over a mouse/keyboard. It's merely a fun and relaxing change.

Anyone else have a response that's not just filled with tears?

If what you need to do is move a mouse pointer to a particular spot on the screen and click on that spot, a mouse is far superior for that to a gamepad.  As such, a gamepad wouldn't be viable for the game, so I don't see much reason for the company to try to make it possible.

and then they wonder why there are so many jokes about console users..

there are no mmogrps.. apart  one old ff, on consoles.. and there are reasons for it..

    l2 keybind

buy wii buy wii fit,( dont buy wii, if you someone with brains, but hey ur console user.. so go ahead )  and exersice some, so you can actually move a mouse.. geez

Geez, didn't know everyone here was a big douche.

The fact that you're all trying to show dominance over a "console user" is pretty pathetic and shows laughable levels of self-esteem.

Anyway, I'm hardly a console user. I just enjoy the casual aspect a controller brings.

Haha, it's funny how you all are elitist kids "omgz mouse/keybrd is so much b3ttr fer pwning nubs." I wasn't aware that enjoying the casual aspect of a controller makes me somehow overweight and unable to move a mouse.

Get over yourselves. Somebody uses a keyboard/mouse all day enjoys switching to an Xbox 360 Gamepad for laughs.

I don't see anything wrong with having various ways to dontrol a game. I don't think a controller would be the easiest way to play a mmo that wasn't made from the ground up for it, but it can still be possible. Also Phantasy Star Universe was released for the xbox 360 in 2007. I think that is the most recent mmo on a console. I would also say that the latest single player Final Fantasy game looked very much like an mmo in single player form.

I just don't see a reason for anyone to make fun of someone that likes to play a console game. It just makes you look like an arrogant dick for making fun of them. There are so many great console games out that are very much story driven with amazing worlds. I personally play both console and pc, and I only play 360.... sorry no wii for me. My game time is probably more on the side of the pc though and play the console for the great single player games. I would also say that a consol controler is the nicest to relax and enjoy a game with. Can just lean back and have fun, and if skilled, can still perform great while in comfort.

It is also very mature to make fun of a person and telling them to go and lose wieght by playing the wii. Yes keep raising the maturity level of PC games one ignorant post at a time. Now can we all not just insult a person for asking an honest question, and wanting to relax with a game.

Hey, nice to see someone with maturity and common sense in this topic.

It's funny how these other people have transformed games to an "All work, no play" attitude, which even contradicts the definition of a game. But if they think it makes them "leet" and boosts their self-esteem, so be it. They can keep their eyes glued to their monitor, sitting on the edge of their chair with a sweatband on their wrist and a water-dispensing helmet as they show off their "skills."

I'll be over here being normal.

Don't get so defensive.  Different controls make more sense for different games.  Some games are designed for use with a gamepad, to the degree that trying to use a keyboard and/or mouse would be awkward.  Such games tend to be released for consoles, as a company can assume that everyone who has the console has the standard controllers for it.  Most people with a computer don't have a gamepad for their PC.

Some games are designed to do nearly everything with the mouse, with the keyboard only infrequently used for anything.  Some games are designed assuming that you've got two hands on the keyboard, because you'll need them for all the keys you need.  Some games are designed to make it so that you have to use very different controls depending on what you're doing.  This particular game is designed assuming that you've got one hand on a keyboard and one on a mouse, as you need both the mouse pointer and a lot more buttons than a typical mouse has.

It makes more sense to adapt the control scheme to the game than to pick a game and then insist on using controls that don't make sense in that particular game.  If you're insistent on using a gamepad, then pick a game where using a gamepad makes sense.  In that case, you'd do well to focus mainly on consoles.

I'm not exactly a 'new' gamer, but I gotta say that SB would suit a 360 controller amazingly well.

As long as they never change the game to suit using a pad, I can't see what anyone would even have an issue with it tbh.

It's just another optional method of control... It dosent change the game  /shrug

Here is one that will really wind you console haters up... This game would work so well on a 360, they should really port it.

Thank you for pointing out some painfully obvious points about game development.

Anyway, it's not a matter of the developers of Spellborn deciding to make the game fit for a controller or not. I really don't care if they take the time to implement it, and to be honest, I don't think they should. That's why I'm not posting in that "Suggestion" thread I was linked to a couple posts ago.

Spellborn is an MMO designed for the keyboard and mouse. So is nearly every other MMO. Hasn't stopped me from fiddling around with a Gamepad, trying to play the MMO with it for an hour. Spellborn looks extra interesting for this.

My intentions for this topic were purely to inquire as to whether it's possible or not, or if anything has been stated about it. I'm not going to say "Oh, an MMO isn't fit for a controller, there's no way in hell I would plug one in anyway for kicks," like it seems you're suggesting.

Of course I'll insist on playing a game with a gamepad, even when it doesn't fit. It seems that so many people in this topic are trying to educate me on why MMO's shouldn't be played with gamepads. That's the part that makes me laugh. I already know that, but I'd love to give it a shot anyway.

I agree. Seeing as you dont need 8,000 hotkeys, this game would work really well with a gamepad. It might be a little difficult to navigate through npc windows and the UI, but it would certainly suit the gameplay.

I know this will draw flames, but I personally uninstalled CoS because of no gamepad support. I liked the game, but not the controls.

Now I didn't go into the game expecting/wanting to use a gamepad, but as I tried the combat system out, I found myself getting very tired of hitting many, many WASD & QE keys for a single mob kill. It was the ultimate in button mashing. I was eager to try it with a gamepad, and at least replace some of the button mashing with an analog stick.

Based on the responses here, I uninstalled at the right time (for me)

Ah, so you're messing around trying to see what you can do?  Not my cup of tea, but that makes more sense.  I guess it's kind of like the person in Guild Wars who said that he'd only use Ursanway if he was using a Guitar Hero controller, and apparently he managed to be able to rig it to work.

Gameguard does block some controller programs, I couldn't get Xpadder to work at all for instance. They have approved a program called Pinnacle Game Profiler available at (http://www.pinnaclegameprofiler.com). It cost 20 bucks but you can try it for 30 days free. I tried it and it works. Although I believe TCoS is one of the few MMORPS suited for a gamepad, I still prefer the mouse and keyboard. :)

Apparently this was reported as being a flame and personal attack, resulting in a warning to me.

I apologise if it seemed that way, I thought it was obviously a a good natured joke and the fact I followed it up with some helpful advice would show it wasnt anything like an attempt of starting a flamewar.

I really didnt think anyone could take offense at it, but there ya go.

Works pretty good, I'd think it do well for Spellborne, once you found a good setup that works for you.

Just for the record, I did not report your post. I can handle being called a little daft =)

On-topic, I did not try any 3rd party software as I had read the GameGuard was blocking it. I have never played a MMO with a gamepad before; I just wanted to use one for CoS because I didn't like hitting the movement keys constantly in order to dodge attacks. But if there is a free solution, and especially if CoS decides to support gamepads, I will likely try the game again.

I only posted in the first place because I liked what I saw when I tried it out, and truthfully did stop playing because of the movement key button mashing. I am rooting for CoS regardless though, I think it is at least a different take on the genre, and for that it deserves to succeed. Happy hunting all.

We have an overzealous mod on the board somewhere. Reply to the warning e-mail with a polite, rational protest, and it will likely be stricken. I had something similar happen recently, and after protesting it, Kunou replied with:

"Warning removed. Thanks for bringing this to my attention."

Might take a day or so to get back to you.

Exactly! Thanks for understanding where I'm coming from. I think a lot of people got the wrong idea originally.

As for XPadder, no, I have not yet tried it. This is the program I've used in the past for MMOs, I just thought I had read in the past that it's blocked, so I never even fired it up. I'll have to give it a shot though to confirm for myself.

    Thanks for the posts.

hehe the modding around here can get crazy at times, they just get trigger happy. You would think they had enough work over the open sewer that is the DF forum or whatever to even start to worry about obviously playful stuff like this, but there ya go. Maybe he was having a slow day.

Let me know if this works out for you ok? I would be interested in trying it out for myself, for curiosity's sake if nothing else. :)

I use Pinnacle and can state that it does work with Gameguard and Spellborn.

I would agree with others who have stated that Spellborn is well suited for a 360 controller as you don't have a million hotkeys mapped to shift and control and alt.    Movement is very fluid and intuitive and I personally find it a lot easier to use the triggers to move across my spelldeck (as opposed to the mousewheel which is clunky to me since your moving the wheel up and down to move the selection left and right).

That having been said, there is a problem with hitting a moving target.   The mouse is just so much more precise when trying to nail something moving around.    It's a bit of an issue in PvE, but I suspect that it will be much more of an issue in PvP.   On the other hand, I've gotten better at targeting with the controller so maybe I will get to the point where it's easier.

Anyway, for anyone who is interested I recommend trying it out.  While I don't think it's an advantage over a keyboard/mouse, it makes playing the game a lot more relaxing and enjoyable (for me at least).
