Ok, i was very hyped about this game when i first saw it. The pvp system and the looting system and i loved how it was a sandbox MMO. I mean this game looked like it was gonna be sweet. Well i got on the forums and i found out that this game is not what it first apeared to be. This game will have no /tell system over long distances( you can have guild chat channels, but only after you purchase the upgrade on your guildstone and you can /tell people only in your immediate area), no global chat, no minimap and possibly no compass, you will have to buy maps and update them because the world will constantly be being discovered, which means you dont get a world map with the outlines of the continents OR an icon that tells you where you are, HUH!?!?! Which means you have to find out where you are depending on landmarks and your maps (which 'may not be 'accurate' says a dev.). In order to get a minimap, you will have advance in magic to get awarness spells and crap. Ok...wow, i dont know about you but my interest in this game has been all but obliterated. This game seems to be geared almost completely toward the role-player and the developers seemed to have no interest in the casual gamer. This disapointed me extremely =(. I find it very sad that this company would throw away such a great oppurtunity for the sake of realism and roleplayers, when the great majority of players are not roleplayers. So now you know.
In my opinion the vast multitude of games lately are for the casual player. Finally one which is not and gee a MMorpg which is only for Role-playing - what a unique idea... how can it be that no one has ever thought of that?
The devs dont want you to play then, if this is a "hardcore" game as you put it that just makes it better.. This adds way more immersion to the game.. global chat and mini maps and such ruin everything exploring is a nesscity.
Why are games not allowed to be different? The lack of a lot of the things people take for granted in most current MMOs sounds great! Makes for a different experience, instead of EVERY game being exactly the F'ing same. Good for MO, hope they stick to their guns and it stays this way.
Thanks for the warning. Lately I've become more and more disenchanted with MO's design and dev attitudes.
And this OP actually brought me back over a bit towards being interested.
A game where you'd have to use a compass to navigate, and actually learn to recognize where you are in the game world sounds terribly immersive.
Global chat? Who doesn't turn that nonsense off right away?
Game is not for players like the OP who are "casual" in their way of thinking. They prefer games that literally have arrows leading you to quest objectives, removing all thought from the adventure.

I had actually never heard of this game. I just kind of stumbled upon its forum out of curiousity, but now after reading this I really want to give it a shot.
Wait, you mean because you will have to sit in a town to chat with your friends if your not hunting, because you will have to use alittle brain power to figure out where the fk you are and where you need to go this isnt for casuals? Last I checked Casual didnt mean lazy, brainless, hand me everything players?! This game is looking more and more like Asherons Call and if it pulls it off I'm going to be in love. Yea the /tell thing might suck alittle but FFS with all the tools out there now (vent, team speak, Xfire) there are plenty of other ways to contact your friends.
Not too sure about the FP view but I think lack of a zone/global/whatever chat is a mistake. I have never once had my gaming ruined by chat.....and I play WoW off and on, lol. Chats are easy to ignore and if they are ruining your game experience you're concentrating on the wrong thing! Now the whole lack of maps and compass stuff just sounds cool.
These guys are actually doing something new and exciting for a change, and they get bashed for it? No wonder we never get any good MMO games. You play games to have fun, not to socialize with people over large distances. There are applications out of game that can do this for you, so stop bitching.
Personally, I wonder if they have any thoughts of implementing a 'execution' system in the game. Could be a good way to minimize PKs if you were to get into an execution type of situation when you win in one-on-one battles, that could allow you to choose whether you kill the defeated oponent or not. Would be nice in a way of players ahieving a different kind of reputation.

You can show mercy if you win a fight and let him live or execute him and loot him blind
What are you talking about! That sounds AMAZING!!! Now if only they would stick to this and not dumb it down...but there's slim chance of that happening
AGREED! When I heards about this feature, I got really excited. Anyone else remember the 'sense heading' skill one had to develop in EQ1? I don't recall any maps available in the early days of that game; one learned to explore cautiously and remember landmarks in order to make it home.
JUST SAY "NO!" to GPS moving maps and markers in fantasy games, lol!
Learn your terrain by exploring, or hire someone to make a map. Hmm...mapmaking! Now THAT would be an excellent profession for a fantasy MMO! Didn't Vanguard start off with a skill like that? I remember people trying to figure out what a mapmaking kit was for. Perhaps Mortal Online will have this in it; some parchment where you could copy a map upon and sell it. Some areas would really be valuable, providing travellers with points of reference for safe navigation...
That sounds amazing! Im really diggin the map idea.
No barrens type of chat going on.. love it.
If you want your hand held play WoW... i hear now they have a quest system that holds your fucking hand the WHOLE time, it actually tells you where to go!!
I like the idea of pigeons to communicate long distance, and the ability to read lips or get better at listening.
It would be one thing if they didn't have the things the OP listed; it's another when these things are actually tide to skills or other mechanics in game.
I'm a casual player, and I feel the same as a lot of others in this thread.

Not all games can be for casual gamers...
However the lack of 3rd person view is just plain dumb. Has nothing to do with casual, PvE or PvP, just plain... stupidity.

This post sums up the reasons why the folk interested in this game have something 'unique' to look forward to. It's about time the garbage that is WoW is put away and forgotten. That game put back this genre 10yrs and has almost ruined it.
I am a 3rd person player so won't be playing this, but I hope MO breathes some life back into a very lifeless MMO gamelist for others. The genre needs pushing forward again, not more crappy WoW clones just to make a fast buck from the mindless hordes.

LOL! Yeah... Those damn "mindless hordes" just don't know what "quality" games are all about... Careful with your nose that far up in the air, if it rains you just might drown... For all of its faults(which are legion...) WoW has done more to advance the *business* side of the MMO industry than any other game, bar none. Not to mention that its a good game all the way up to level cap. Anti WoW hysterics are almost as funny as anti Mickysoft hysterics. Both corps laugh at such nonsense, all the way to the bank If the Dev's of MO are content to be a niche market(with its inherent limitations) then more power to them.
I'm glad this game isn't for the casual gamer because they are always the ones bitching and moaning that the game is too hard for them in every effing game that I play. And ends up being simplified by the Developers because 9 year old johnnyboi finds the game too hard so all the hard-core players like me have to get the shit-end of the stick. All the things that made the game challanging and interesting for the hard-core players leave the game cuz its too easy too play, not challanging enough, or half the game has had its content removed. I could name so many mmo's that have done that simply because of casual gamers, and retarded game companys that dont know what the hell they are doing.

That's funny, because I had only a casual interest in this game until I read this post... Now I'm very excited to try this out.
I find it odd to hear someone whining about an RPG being for roleplayers.
In my opinion the vast multitude of games lately are for the casual player. Finally one which is not and gee a MMorpg which is only for Role-playing - what a unique idea... how can it be that no one has ever thought of that?
Honestly.
Do you even think the majority of the Casual Gamers DO EVEN KNOW that this game does exist?
These systems will encourage communication and make pvp battles, sieges much more enteraining.
The devs dont want you to play then, if this is a "hardcore" game as you put it that just makes it better.. This adds way more immersion to the game.. global chat and mini maps and such ruin everything exploring is a nesscity.
