Looking for MMO

tim9112tim9112 Member Posts: 3

Hey,

Well... firsts first. I have played:

- WoW

- Runescape

- Anarchy Online

- Requiem

- Vanguard

In a game I rate the PvP system very highly. PvP is a big thing for me. I like grinding as many people find it boring and will not put themselves through it so you can very easily stand out from the crowd.

Wow got too easy, everyone was max level and it was hard to stand out. When you did achieve that they only made it easier to get gear and put you back at square one.

Requiem was just a grind followed by a grind.

Didn't really get into Vanguard - didn't give it a chance really.

Anarchy Online you can't PvP enough.

I'd like to start a new MMO and stay ontop of the pack.

All feedback is appreciated

Regards,

Tim

I'm going to go waaaaaay out on a limb here and suggest a MUD. Gemstone 4: http://www.play.net/gs4/

The reason I suggest this is because you seem to be focused on standing out.  GS4 takes so long to level that once you're about level 20, you really start to stand out.  This takes some months, typically.  I'm pretty sure there's no limit to levels.  The highest level players there have been playing for 10+ years.  The community is small (600+ players at primetime, 200+ min) but can be very close.  PvP is handled on a much more serious note - you can't legally go attacking someone in town and if you go attacking someone outside of town, you better be ready to face the consequences of their friends.

With that said (and assuming you're going to blow off the idea of playing a MUD, understandably so I guess) - maybe you should try Asheron's Call?  Jump on the PvP server and start leveling.  The level limit is really high there.  I haven't played in years but I'm sure there's still a population PvPing and trying to make a name for themselves...

I can't think of any modern MMO that really lets you stand out and be someone.  They all seem to be manufactoring lines letting people run through, push the right buttons, and beat the game.  I think you're going to have to look back to when games were an emerging art rather than a money making business decision like WoW.  Even a hardcore grinder like lineage 2 has become pretty streamlined, for better or worse.

Well the 2 i can think on top of my mind (and a third that's just thought about) are AoC,War (and Eve) , all of them being completely different to each other. Honestly for great pvp and grinding i would just try out some F2P "asian" mmo , there are many out there like Cabal. If you want to stick to a p2p model ( i do because i cant spend for potions and superubergear in RTM models), and you want to "stand" out is doable mostly in conan i think ! Also there is darkfall , very very pvp oriented of what i read but i am not sure about the game (personally i wouldnt buy it or try it). As for war is more wow-ish and you can actually level thro "rvr" ( their pvp model). If you are looking for a such a game i wont say differently. AoC has a "revamped" system of what i hear (since launch) but i can't confirm this. Eve I mainly read and heard from other gamers that is insane space pvp / if you are into that. I am sure there are other games i just cant think of any out of my head Atm.

Edit : lineage 2 ofcourse as well : Very long grind and too much pvp !

Edited again : You are looking for something new to stay on top of the pack , that makes it tough really considering IMO all the latest 2008- now releases failed my hype at least in pvp. So i stand again on the F2P "asian" mmo there are millions there and spawning each day.

    Signature!!!...

You really can't have extensive grinding and good PvP in the same game.  That makes it so that PvP is dominated by whoever is higher level and/or has better gear, which is completely stupid.  If you want an MMO with good PvP, try Guild Wars.  If you want lots of grinding, then don't.
