Beta date and release date?

SomeOldBlokeSomeOldBloke Member UncommonPosts: 2,167

Do we have any hint as to when they propose Beta or the actual game release. I'm between MMOs at the moment as there is nothing new out there that I want to play so I may need to go back to an old one...

Beta is in progress, I believe its currently closed beta. Q2 2009 is the current release date last I checked.  If I were to guess maybe June. Not sure if they are planning to release holiday season, but If i were marketing this game it wouldnt release with the other big names releasing in 2009 Q4.

  • SomeOldBlokeSomeOldBloke Member UncommonPosts: 2,167

OK, thanks... I didn't realize they were in closed beta. I guess the game is further along than I though.

  • Cody1174Cody1174 Member Posts: 271

Yea, but I could be off. I just don't see this game having much sucess banging heads with Aion, Earthrise, SWTOR, ect this fall.

  • cukimungacukimunga Member UncommonPosts: 2,258

Yeah it kinda sucks that this game is competing against Earthrise.  I guess the non full loot people will come to FE, although I wish they would make the PvP more open instead of having to be in certaint areas.  Maybe further in the game the PvP areas get bigger which would be nice.  Even better is if you could kill anyone anywhere right from the start.

Fallen Earth will have to have something especially unique to run with the big boys. I think 95% of items being craftable may be that thing.

  • DeadDingoDeadDingo Member Posts: 193

Earthrise is running a good year behind Fallen Earth

There isn't much competition between the two since they won't be releasing even within 6 months of each other.

Cant be too long now,Game Informer gave away a copy of the game to the winner of thier letter art contest in the new issue.

Game Informer can give away a game years before it comes out. It just means the winner gets a coupon or maybe a box mock-up with a code to use at release. Or the winner may have been given beta access and a coupon for release. At any rate, giving a game away in a contest is in no way an indicator of where that game is currently at in development.

And since the game is covered by NDA, all I will say is: release will not be for quite some time, unless they don't plan to succeed.

Would you say Q3 is a more realistic release than Q2?  Just asking as I need to resub to something as the boredom is creeping back in...

If it were myself, I'd say Q3 would be the earliest. I think the last thing ANY mmo developer should want to do nowadays is release an unpolished product ( "polished" not meaning perfect, but enjoyably playable with a minimum of issues ).

If they have the funds, I'd wait until Q4 and knock it out of the ballpark. I think a Q4 release would not only benefit the game as far as giving the maximum development and polish time needed, but if the advertising is timed right, this could be a blockbuster for a Christmas release.

But, as in all things mmo, only time will tell.

I still would be worried what other games are releasing in Q4.

    Aion for sure.

Star Wars ToR: no one really knows... but Q4-09 is a chance.

I could honestly see Fallen Earth standing just fine with either of those two games.

For instance, Aion will cater mostly to the Lineage 2 crowd, and those who enjoy more asian-themed mmos.

ToR will cater to the lightsabre junky casual players and die hard Star Wars fans, which is fine and will give them a good chunk of gamers. However, most of those who played Star Wars Galaxies before the NGE will find a game more suitable to their taste with Fallen Earth. Not to mention those eagerly awaiting a more "sandboxy" type of game in general.

I'm trying to be as realistic and honest in my opinions here as I can be, so I'm trying to push my personal happiness with the game so far to the side in the interest of objectivity. I don't think Fallen Earth will be the next 10 million subscriber mmo, but I do see it having a good chance at hitting the 500k -1 million subs mark IF they take their time and get it right.

It has the rare ability so far of having something for every crowd ( casual, hardcore, questers, explorers, "sandboxers" ) without putting one over the other. And if they continue this way, I don't see how they can fail. But we've still got awhile to see if they pull it off.

This is one of the few games in a long time I'm really rooting for.

This is true, plus there's going to be another dividing factor between FE and ER, for instance ER is planned to be more of an RPG game with soft lock targeting unlike FE which plans to go the full fps/tps twitch based targeting system.

This in itself will make a major difference between ER and FE since ER will cater to more RPG fans that don't want twitch mechanics in their game. And FE will cater to those that have more of a history and interest in playing games like Quake, Counterstrike, and Halo.

In the long run it's all going to depend on how much effort the developers put into the actual features and gameplay and trying to balance it all out.

If anything was learned from 2008 was that gameplay mechanics matter a lot, AoC had a pretty decent game mechanic but how it was balanced in the game amongst classes and ungrades seriously distroyed any chance that game had in becoming successful. And as for WAR, well, the gameplay mechanics were just too dumb down and simple to hold any interest amongst players for the long haul and that's why the game eventually became boring for most.

    Good to hear Wise.

I hope they don't rush it. There are also alot of Fallout junkies that I  know will love this game aswell. I do hope crafting is an intergral part of this game.

I am a big sci-fi fan and as much as i am excited about FE, no way this game is going to get 500k to 1 mil subscribers. Nope, sorry that's not going to happen.
Aion yes possible, Star Wars new MMO surely will hit 1 mill sub or even more but FE won't be able to hit that mark. Its not that kind of game.

That and EarthRise is trash.....its the farthest thing from post apacolytic setting I have ever seen.....

FE has the perfect setting...just need them to lighten up on the carebear rules to truly capture the flavor!

Completly groundless statement....there is no way of predicting fan base much less subscription numbers....

How can one predict  who will be atracted to FE when there is absolutly nothing like its setting in any mmo created to date......

The diferance in settings between the games listed above is to great to efectivly compare.

Not sure if they are going for massive release... Still this game seems realy intresting, not sure about fps combat, but haven't tried. Also I'm not too fond of maxium pvp experience.

Actually to what they have already described, the gameplay seems as though it could play like Hellgate and/or Neocron, which use fps/WASD controls + rpg character/item advancements and such.

That is the main reason why I'm interested in FE.

Agreed the gameplay will be very similar to Neocron...which is why I to am very intersted in FE....

But gameplay and setting are two totaly diferant  topics...one is game mechanics...the other is game enviroment.

This game seems more like Gamma World to me than Fallout.  I just found out about this game a few weeks ago and am now really looking forward to it.

I hope they dont ruin it like Auto Assault; I thought Auto Assault was going to be an MMO version of Car Wars, but it went into WoW territory and ruined the concept. I like that Fallen Earth seems to be a lot more realistic. I also really like that it is zoneless and uses real-life terrain.

  • MordridMordrid Member Posts: 237

I will agree with Wise as I am in the beta as well, this game has major potential as it does have something for everyone, but it needs to at least Q4 for release in my opinion.

As for Earthrise, FE and ER are not even closely similar in game mechanics nor setting. To me, FE has a Road Warrior style feel to it.

but the setting of the game is almost "forcing" developers to implement it. Whether some like it or not this game SHOULD have the most hardcore and cruel PvP system (full loot, carjacking, carwrecking, etc). I mean c'mon it's a postapocaliptic setting, watch any of the Mad Max movies and try and tell me Im wrong.
