Xbox chat pad question.

Hey, I just bought a xbox 360 chatpad to help with communicating in-game. I like the backlight and how small it is, however it is very annoying as well. When trying to type a / you have have to hit a Green button(shift kinda key) for that character to type. When hitting said green button however it removes the UI and all the windows for ffxi(health/mp/chat log/menus/etc) so that all I see is my character and the game world.

Well I have to type the forward slash anytime I want to use /p for party or /t for tells, etc. So anytime I try to send one of those messages the UI disappears, and screws up what I am trying to type. Is there anyway to turn this off? It acts like that key is the "back" key on the controller which also takes away the UI. Or is there a way within FFXI to turn this function off? Thanks for any help!

You can always set the channel you want to talk on by using the sub menu and clicking over chat to the next menu and set it to whichever. It can also be done like /cm l or /cm p or even /cm t nameofperson.

I don't know anything about the chat pad. Heard it could be a pain and stuff and that a full keyboard is usually better.

I was confused by it the first time I used it too.  I just learned to hit the green key once so the UI goes off, then hit it again while holding it down so that I can see the UI and I can use it for the /.  I haven't found a way around it.

I bought a chat pad too when I finally picked up the game for the 360. Honestly it would be the greatest thing in the world if it didn't have the problem you speak of with the UI disappearing. I think it happens because the green function key works like the Select Button "Back" Button and unfortunatly you can't remap that key in FFXI. If you could that would be awesome b/c then I could use the chatpad more. The only other downfall is the lack of F-Keys which for something who was weened on a keyboard is kinda a big thing. Such potential too ; ;
