Okay,

So when this game first came out i was there at launch day and well i fell in love with it. jjoined the navy went overseas and well you know how that goes time passes and you try new games.since then i have played many games but FF has always been there. I remember how it use to take hours and hours waiting for groups some days and others you seemed to log in and bam you had one. but Soloing was near impossible. now i have time to spend here and there just not as much as i use to have as now i have a family and was woundering if while i wait for a group is Soloing some is a possible feat just to pass the time. i still have my account and my old CHR but i would start over seeing how i logged in today and everything was foriegn to me. <Sorry spelling errors im sure> I dont want a Solo game i miss the community that FF had and may still have. and what is the best class to start out with i figure a healer as they always get groups but i would have to go BLM first inorder to get the best bang for my buck.

Thanks

The game will not look the same to you as it did at launch.  There is by far more options for soloing including a new addition called Fields of Valor and increased Experience points with EP and DC mobs.  It's quite easy to solo to 20 and given patience you can solo past that fairly easy if you dont mind some frustration learning.  I wouldn't reccomend solo'ing too much as you need to learn the job but you need to learn the job in a party situation as when you get further in the game you aren't an army of one (sorry for pun) but only a cog in a grand machine.  There are other things to do though other than leveling. There are solo things you can do like quests, farming, getting out posts, early missions, acquiring fame or working towards crafting.  All this can be done instead of leveling or while even looking for party.  There are many things and i would reccomend checking out www.ffxiclopedia.org and the links stickied here in the forums.

As far as your first job you can go with a mage job or melee job.  I genearlly reccomend Warrior or White mage as both can be great subjobs to nearly every job of their class. Warrior can sub to any melee effectively and White mage can sub to any mage job effectively.  There are better choices but those are advanced jobs and for when you get much further in the game.  Warriors can tank to around 40 pretty well but you'll mostly be DD until you get a subjob and it leveled up (Monk is a great subjob for Warrior so maybe get it to 18 before you do warrior or vice versa as both are great subjobs for the other).

    EVE - Sharvala
    FFXI - Shazamalicious
Guild Wars - Xavier Lucifer & Charlize the Necro

No, I wouldn't start over. Just take baby steps and learn everything again. I couldn't play for 6 months and I barely remembered how to move. It's going to be the same thing if you make a new character. I wouldn't sweat it. Besides, we're here to answer your questions if you have any. The wiki has a lot of stuff too.

    Thank you for responding

Today I logged in and made a new CHR Elf welp that didnt go over so well seeing how my first CHR was an elf so quickly started remembering all the fun and just had to create a different race. I still have my elf 46 DRK 43 BLM 30WHM i just would look so dumb playing any of them so I started a Mithra yup im playing a hot ass Cat. i liked the Nin job with my Elf and i know that teh Mithra has teh best AGI so figured what teh hay. The first few levels were a little daunting seeing how i didnt remember any of the controls. but slowly i started to make macros and get back into the swing of things. Im glad that I have came back just Thanks for you reponses agian.

Oh can i switch servers? Fenrir is alittle low on the Population but the economy is much cheaper than i remember it so that may be a good thing well see

You can always switch servers but it costs money and only allowed a switch i think every 3 months or something like that.Server population is a tough one because some may have a different player base, like some servers the majority are all in Whitegate, while other servers you may see more action in older zones.Do a /sea all and if the server has more than 1500 on then it is a decent population,i prefer 2000+ as i like it busy :D.I have always noticed that once you hit around 1300 the game seems dead, the odd zone may have 4 parties but then another will have zero.Example i have often seen 3/4 parties in Quifim but none in the Jungle. Then 3 pty in Garleige but none in Quicksand,so with a low population the parties are hit and miss.

Pardon my newbness, I usually avoid forums like the plague :/

I'm also an old vet of FFXI and thinking of returning after nearly 3-4 years abscence.  I loved the community it had and my only real gripe was the rampant gold spamming and botting happening.  I signed up for a trial to check things out and I'm pleased to see SEA's offer to resurrect old characters.  My thing is this: I'm not wanting to even try if FFXI is gonna dissappoint me in the was that other MMO's have.

I crave good community, helpful players and preferrably rp, but that last isn't needed.  Not having obscene prices for items in AH is a plus as well. ((I don't care if the item ~IS~ HQ!!  A robe +1 for 10-11k is freaking OBSCENE.  HQ or not, it cost you roughly 2.5k to make and only gives +4 to def.  If you expect a lvl 1 to shell out 10-11k for a measly 4 def, you're retarded.))

So far, I am dissappointed in all regards.  FFXI is still the greatly immersive experience it once was.  But after trying Garuda, Bismark and Kajuta, I'm finding the only upside is Kajuta had fair AH prices.  All players ignore please for a team.  Well, almost all.  One guy lol'd at me.  One did try to help, but we couldn't get more people.  One said he ~would~, but he wasn't going to 'delevel' himself to my lvl.  One person told me simply that it was gonna be the same story in all regions except Jueno and Whitegate.

Is there a server that still has a decent ~community~?

This is why so many MMO's fail in my opinion.  Communities not willing to help new players, not willing to be social, trying to turn 'Massively Multiplayer' into 'Massively Solo', doing your best to beat another player named "ToiletBrown" to a enemy before he steals it from you (actually happened last night).  Seriously, it amazes me that people are antisocial to the point that they alienate new players, discouraging new players, then wonder why the population drops off to the point the company shuts down the game :/

Anyways... to make a short story long:

I'm looking for a server with a good community, people willing to team and aren't gonna ignore me when I try to get a team of lvl 5 and below together cause "Gustaberg Tour" quest demands it.  (Seriously, who's mad at 500gil for a jog through non hostile territory?)

I'm looking for fair AH pricing.

Did I mention the importance of good community?

That's the server I'm on. You didn't run into me. If you choose to give it another shot, let me know. What level were you when you were trying to party? Also, because of Fields of Valor, you don't need to jump into a party as early as you used to.

Someone from these forums joined Kujata recently and got to 15 without any kind of problem, and he was barely playing. I don't know what kind of idiots you ran into, but I guess there are always some on every server really.

I've honestly been wanting to do Gustaberg Tours for a while. Just never got around to doing it.

Yeah, I'm still in Kajuta.  I'm lvl 5 WHM now and the only reason I'm looking for a team is that "Gustaberg tour" quest.  It requires a full team of 5's or below.  I'd solo it if it allowed this.  I'm in Bastok currently, tho wondering if I'd have better luck in finding peeps to hang with in windhurst.  Name is Xancha.  Send me a mail or friend invite if you like and we can try this in the next few days.

Any other server suggestions?  What servers have a population above 2000?
