If you owned the marketing rights for all 6 movies and you owned the movie rights for I, II, III, V, VI (He doesnt own IV), wouldn't you want to make a measly buck on the backs of the fans?
lol, Im sure many of us would have that temptation in the least. Plus, it was the fans really who made him think about the marketing ploy and video game ploy as many 80's toys were selling for hundreds of dollars at conventions and ebays (without Lucas having anything to do with the collector's prices). He just took that idea and ran with it.
Apparently, many other fans aren't too pissed wither, otherwise you would be seeing his toys collect dusts on the toystores shelves. Where I'm at, you wont see any Star Wars toy last longer than a week on a shelf.
However, when it comes to film production he never changed. He gives everyone a chance to sell themselves. He's employed thousands of technological newbies fresh out of college and many of his crew were picked up at independent film festivals. Look at Disc IV...many of the end story clips were done by fans from www.theforce.net. and not by some high dollar talent agency.

People straight out of school are more maliable. Easier to control and mold to the "masterpiece vision". Professional, experienced talent might make him look bad by coming up with ways to improve that vision.

He didn't release of the original trilogy on DVD to avoid piracy. As if his movies are so sacred and special that pirates will go out of their way to get 'em... Now he finally releases it to avoid piracy. It's selling like MAD! It would have sold like mad in 2000! Then to say in interviews that he doesn't care what his fans think about the new changes in the movies... About Han and Greedo, about the eyebrows, new CG content, about whatever else. When countless times before he talks about valuing his fans contributions... apparently only when it suits him.
The guy talks out of both sides of his mouth... And just look at him, with those wee beedy eyes. Ooh, you're gonna buy my DVDs...

I played SWG for over a year. I started in beta 3 and i kept with it until about 2 weeks ago. i even got the beta for the xpak. Now whomever ends up with it. The game will continue to suck until someone puts some content into it. I don't know if this is SOE or LA fault. I figured SOE couldn't really do much without LA's permission.
The game would be better once content was added if they would put all the jedi on some off world place to where they couldn't get back. OR better yet, let Vader come back and kill them.. LIKE IN THE MOVIES!! btw the Xpack sucks it is the same as on the ground but you are stuck looking at a borning space background.
I am going to play EQ2 and i think it will be ALOT better than SWG ever was cause SOE will have full control. Now i will say that SWG is the first MMO i have ever played.

Actually I liked the changes in the new DVD box set.
I liked episode one and two as well. Everyone compares them to the original trilogy which is a mistake. Watch them as individual movies that carry on a storyline. Also I can not wait for episode three to come out so I can have all 6 movies on DVD. I intend to watch them marathon style on a weekend.
This all has 2 things to do with the game SWG Jack and Shit.....and jack left town.
The game is bad because of bad decisions. I don't know exactly who was responsible for those decisions directly and frankly neither do any of you. The fact remains that bad decisions about the development of the game itself are what has ruined it. Not the fact that it is based on what in my opinion are some pretty fantastic movies.
Oh and I completely agree with the player jedi being hunted and killed by high powered NPCs and I also think they should reinstate permadeath and make it a one time thing. You die once and you are officially dead and starting over from square one.
This will ensure that only the absolute die hard glutton for punishment types will try to play jedi.
Fix the game make it like it was 3 or 4 months after release (no uber buffs or armor or poisons or food) and I would gladly start a new subscription to what was once in my opinion the greatest MMO ever made.

Actually we do know. If you go back and read the inital interviews you will see it stated that SOE cannot add anything that Lucas Arts doesn't approve. Everything in the game was approved by Lucas Arts, Everything. Sounds to me like we know who was making the decisions.
Yes, I thought I read that too, but wasn't sure until now. Usually how it is with all games LucasArt has its mits on.

I was wondering about that Eyebrows comment myself. Dude, you're complaining because they removed Anakin Skywalker's eyebrows? *blink* *blink*
I'm gonna take this whole rumor thing with a grain of salt. Mind you, I was gonna basically toss my CD's, I don't play anymore and didn't think I ever would again. But now I'll let them gather some more dust for a couple years. Who knows. Maybe, just maybe.......

one thing I could not understand in ROTJ with Anakin being replaced in the very end (the scene where Luke sees Anakin, Obi-Wan, and Yoda all together)...
Why was Anakin in his late 20's while Obi was dirt old and likewise with yoda?
I mean, I would be pissed if I was Obi when I saw Anakin looking all Stud-up and I still looked like a posterboy for senior citizen discount coffee at Dunkin Donuts

I was genuinely surprised they didn't CG Hayden's face in place of Sebastian Shaw when Luke takes Vader's helmet off. I mean if adding Hayden at the end was for consistency, then why didn't he go all the way with that? Why just remove the eyebrows?

First all mmorpg i played have balance issues.
So lets take EQlive probably the most wanted and needed class is the cleric right?So basically by default of not been able to do good spots or raids without them they are over powered and thus not balanced.
Now if you look around you would see other people playing other classes happily with no thought of making a cleric.A warrior is happy doing his role tanking.In short i believe last ever figures for EQlive i saw showed the druid and necromancer to be the most played class.6
Next game is planetside.There is imbalance in the empires .At launch it was generally agreed the VS were the weakest.Yet most server never had less then 25% VS on.Considering the ideal ratio is 33% thats not far off.Only 2 occasions were any empire overblanced to above 42% on prime time-one was the VS boost to their lasher(which got nerfed in 2 weeks and everything returned to normal) second was when TR and VS got nerfed at same time and NC untouched(NC got their nerf 3 weeks later).
So generally now no empire at prime time is less then 30% which is almost perfect empire balance.
So all this i am pointing out is that while there is never balance in any mmorpg there is rarely a point in a mmorpg that a vast majority of players in a mmorpg wants to be a jedi.
Now for those that want to say hey i never wanted to get a jedi ,i say this i played SWG for close to 6 months .So while for argument sake i say ok some might actually want to do something else and NEVER made attempts to open the FS slot ,don't tell me at least 80-90% of SWG current subs are not trying to be FS or have the slot.I was there i know .
Heck even i that was not bothered did actually start to grind it simply because EVERYONE i know was on it .Until i decided i wanted to try other mmorpg out and left.
There is a clear "i wanto to be a jedi" rush going thru SWG .
So like i said and some others have said there is nothing any company can do.Jedis were let into the game and should not have but its certainly too late to do anything about it.
Best bet for SoE or any other company that MAY take over(highly doubtful) is just to focus on the jedi.
Heck give me control of the game i would open a FS slot for everyone and just keep making titles for jedis like senior master then tutor then member of council then etc.Just keep the current zombies grinding and adding more harder mob for them to bash.
Trying to save other aspects of the game is IMHO wasteful .Pointless putting a beautiful vase in the living room if no one will ever bother to look at it is my saying.
Oh i so hope Lucas do pull the plug and swallow up SOE on this and take hold the reigns i will come back. i Played beta2 and retail uptil the new jedi changes. So many cool friends who had not quite got jedi were screwed with the trials.. 25 masters the majority had and were only rewarded 3 free trees???? that seriously sux.
I unlocked back in february on Eclipse, but i am fraid that i felt guilty playing my jedi when the trials hit so many people worked hard to only be let down.
SOE took the fun and achievement away lets hope Lucas can bring it back
I have an idea. Why not just include the latest Jedi Knight game with SWG? Oh, even better, make it a playable game inside SWG. Maybe inside one of the cantinas as a stand-up arcade. That way, all you need is a quarter and you get to be a Jedi for a while.
I actually give some credence to these rumors, it would seem to make sense from a number of angles. Lucas Arts get's to TRY to make SWG into the game they really wanted, rather than starting from scratch. Another possibility would be for Lucas to take over SWG while developing SWG2, with the plan of ending SWG when the sequel is ready to take it's place.
It also might make sense for SOE. They aren't going to give the game away for free, I'm sure that they will get a good chunk of change, maybe some residuals and have a very nice one time profit line item on the quarterly reports. EQ2 will be coming in to replace and exceed the quarterly, recurring revenues that SWG produces, etc...
As far as what would Lucas Arts do with the game? No matter what they do, I'm sure SOE would be counting on it taking many, many months before real changes could be in place and even then it would not be certain that the changes would be positive i.e. serious competition for SOE and EQ2 in the fight for monthly subscribers.
I laughed at the part of the rumor of the game getting too far away from Raph Coster's vision. The game design was all Raph on launch and it isn't much different now. I'm actually having a little fun with the 10 day, returning subscriber offer, swoop bikes make travel times so much more managable for explorers and those managing mining opps, but I have been shocked how little the game has changed/improved in the last year.
Personally, I think the mistake, from the start, was setting SWG between Episodes 4 and 5. The tie in with the new movies would have been much better, made the game usivewrse feel more fresh and eliminated the problems with allowing player Jedi. Setting the game after Episode 1, then evelving the story with the release of Eps: 2 & 3 would have been incredible.
If Lucas Arts were to make a SWG2, or an SW MMO under a different name, I would hope they would go with that time frame. If the game was successful, the in game story could actually mirror the movies over the life time of the game.

Wow...and here I thought the game was beyond saving.
I really hope something can be done by LA to rescue this game, it's such a shame that it went down the sewer the way it did.
But what to do about the existing player Jedi that really just shouldn't be in the game? What to do about the people that are gonna whine and gripe that they spent 6 months grinding (now there's the DEFINITION of wasting time) to get a Jedi, and LA can't dare to just take all jedi out of the game.
That's what needs to happen. No jedi....nerf comp....nerf buffs....more indoor areas, def stack nerfs, and incentive for teh GCW. That's just off the top of my head.
If I could log into the game and feel like I was playing Star Wars, and not Jedi Academy Online/Attack of the Composite Clones, I might consider resubscibing.
Help us Lucas Arts....you're our only hope....
Wow pleading to the guys that got us in the situation you hate. If you want to get rid of Jedi, then you want Lucas Arts to pull out and let SOE have it since LA are the people that made SOE put jedi in the game.

OMG are you serious? I'm not going back to find the link, but take your pick of sites. Any site that did an interview before the game came out. You will find it loaded with statements like, "..and LA feels that, while not consistant with the timeline, player should be allowed to play jedi." or "SOE checks everything they do with LA to make sure it is consistant with the Star Wars Universe"
Then go look at Ralph Kostners website, where he states he did not want player jedi's. He was lead developer for SOE, guess who was the only one who could out vote him? Yep you guessed it Lucas Arts.
