I Miss DAoC

I used to play this game from 2002 to 2006. So far, there is nothing that has replaced the uberness this game has as far as fantasy games go. It had so many good things about it, and by 2006 there were tons of things that a player could do: open RvR in the frontiers or the BGs, fighting players at all levels and gaining gold and RPs at any level, a huge choice of leveling areas, a minor quest system that allowed people to level up a bit at least on questing, tasks, task dungeons, aurelite dungeons, awesome PvP dungeons, a great area for PvEing out in the frontiers, crafting that mattered, epic PvE if you wanted it. Why can't more fantasy games provide this kind of gameplay?

 

I love the design of the areas whether in classic or SI or ToA. I really miss the atmosphere of the different realms. Even unfinished Hibernia had its charm and there was a more organic and wonderous feel to the different areas that is missing from more recent MMOs. I liked the camping bonus system, the death penalty system, and how one can design character progression. The gameplay is both simple and complex.

 

What made me leave? Depopulation is the major answer. I was a Middie and Midgard emptied out on the servers I played it on, Igraine and later on Ector. Most of my ingame friends left DAoC and played WoW instead. Class imbalances between the realms was another one as well as major exploits like the old line of sight issues with Bainshees and Animists. 

 

If there were more people in DAoC now, I would come back even though I would have to start from scratch.

Ah it seems we are in the same boat my friend. I remember those days, and I am now giving Eve a shot despite the claims i have heard of their own employees cheating. Sadly, I think there is nothing left for us to do. I was actually going to give DAOC a trial again i think..

The Bossiney cluster (classic) alwasy seems to have less then the Devon cluster.  It's been along time since i've seen at least the classic cluster break 1000.
