My views on WoW:   "So long and thanks for all the fish"

I find it amazing that by 2020 first world countries will be competing to get immigrants.

Lol, that really sums it up. I hate fishing irl, and they had me standing around for hours as a pink haired gnome in la-la land, fishing for stone-eel's...

I hope you realized you posted this survey on the forum that probably has the largest population of wow haters in existence!!

I think probably every MMO player that doesnt like wow is here... all the ones that do like it are on the WoW forums.

Any survey posted here will give very very biased results.

LOL thats not true at all, The people on the WoW forums hate WoW also.

They're just so addicted they keep playing. How else could you explain the amount of bitching on the WoW forums?

The people that love WoW don't know the forums even exist like 95% of the mmo community.

Forum goers are a very small % of the gaming community.

I've been playing WoW again lately and that game takes as much time to play as anyother mmorpg. The only different between WoW and older mmorpgs like it is WoW polishes everything and doesn't have frustrating gameplay mechanics that punish you for playing.

I mean it took me over 2 hours to get a group ready for an instance which took a further 2 hours to clear........ frigging you have to spend ages getting two people to travel to summon everyone before it and that takes a long time to do aswel. I think WoW is as "hardcore" as anyother mmorpg on the market right now, the only difference is it allows casual players to join the fun aswel as thats why it's so popular.

I played some WotLK and it is a much better game than it used to be because it allows me to do isntances in 20 odd mins and the story is much better and everythings just much more fun. If you want to spend 24/7 on the game you still can though. The really hardcore people have all the achievements and everything to get now aswel and the honour system which I don't have enough time with.

I just think the reason people hate on WoW is cause it's the most popular and if it had a population of say Vanguard then they'd be singing it's praises. It isn't Blizzards fault that they made the most polished and best mmorpg on the market and it became really popular as proof to that. People are also getting bored of WoW because it's been out for over 4 years now and tbh anyone will get bored of any game after 4 years.

Just think people need to grow up and relaise the state of the genre has to do with other developers making crap clones and not Blizzard for making a good game that everyone wants to copy.

The thing is play any game enough and you see all it's faults and become bored and hate on it. I mean most people play WoW a handful of hours a week and sometimes don't even have time certain weeks due to family or work etc etc. So they don't even play through 1/4 of the content and everything seems great to them. Just the people who burn through the content because they play 24/7 and that isn't healthy and they need to go outside and do something with their life and realise it ain't important in life to hate on the WoW forums due to class balance or whatever, thats pathetic.

I used to play WoW in 2005 and I never cared that my class wasn't perfectly balanced in PVP cause no game ever achieves balance like that. I just played some PVP a few hours a week and I killed people and thats all I cared about.

WOW is the first mmorpg since UO that managed to make the game fun and difficult without making it just plain frustrating and tedius.

Games are supposed to be fun to play.  I never understood why players want huge death penalties (which amount to nothing but downtime), or want things like waiting hours for a boss to spawn or for your turn at that boss (EQ).

real-life has enough boring parts to it, I want to hop into a MMORPG and have fun, WOW does that, most games don't

  • ulthar50ulthar50 Member Posts: 47

Didn't care for the survey. You need to give people more potential options, or make your options more inclusive. For example, why don't I play any more? Just plain tired of it. The thought of logging in again makes me nauseous.

What kept me playing?  The relationships I formed with my guildmates. That was what was fun in the end. It was a social networking site disguised as a game. And I suppose that is why it soaks up so much time - and why so many women play it.

Having said that, I have a tremendous amount of respect for Blizzard and WoW. Any game that generates that much cash flow is to be respected. They built one hell of a game that sucked untold hours and days out of players' lives. The first week or so of playing that game was pretty damn cool.  But all things come to an end. And I suspect most gamers are looking forward to that next big game.

WOW IS THE BEST GAME EVER!!!!

I played wow since release.  I had several max level characters when the level was 60, then when it was 70, then quit playing before this latest expansion.

I played on multiple different server types in various guilds and knew over all in all of my play time and experience in wow, I would say around 100 people well enough to chat with.

Out of all of those people and all of that time, only one of them ever told me they liked playing wow, the rest of them were just...more or less addicted and neither liked the game or disliked it that much but simply played it due to a vacuum in their lives they would have filled with some other activitiy if not for wow.  TV for example, like the rest of the civilized world does with it's free time.

Myself?  I liked it alot up until cross realm battlegrounds were implemented, I always enjoyed my time playing for the most part.  Never really liked the game too much after it lost that personal server rivalry feeling.  I did have a brief time when TBC came out and I made some new friends  and did all the outlands dungeons with them and kara, but...none of them liked the game, they were for all intents and purposes just addicted without anything else to do.  Looking for that next upgrade, that next drop to fill the slot for their off spec, that next token or whatever.  But no.  Out of all the people I interacted with personally only one of them told me he actually liked the game, that he would wake up looking forward to when he got off work to play it and would never quit etc...

Then again, I played with all adults and we only ever had one or two kids on in any guild I was ever in, usually the kids of some guild leader or officer, so I can't speak to how the majority of wow players feel, although I suspect they like the game and would play it because they actually like it whereas most of the adults are pretty much playing it like they would watch tv, just as something to do pretty much.  Don't like it, but don't dislike enough to uninstall since the alternative is literally only watching TV unless you're lucky enough to live in some place with a beach or something.

Played WoW casually for about a year just to see what all of the fuss was about. Got 4 characters to the level cap(70 at the time) and really couldn't see putting myself through the mind numbing Raid/PvP grind that they call an "End Game" so I gave it up. It was fun for a while but eventually got boring as the only thing really left for me to do was grind for gear... No thanks.

It's a fun game but the problem is that they don't really extend their hand to new/returning players. The old content is pretty much a barren wasteland meaning that you will have to solo from 1-80 pretty much. Who wants pay a monthly fee just so you can solo most of the game ? I totally gave up on AOC and WAR and at times I consider coming back but as I said, I really don't want to playing a mmo with noone around in the older areas.

That is how i feel as well. Took my toon from 70-79 and realized i wasnt having fun.  As has been said, the lower levels are barren and the fact is imo  the 1-60 levels were the most fun in that game. Elite mobs are no longer elite, sucker a friend into subbing and get extra xp, yes it is dumbed down.   I had a lot of  fun  in WOW and made some friends i still retain today but for me the game is over, its been over for me since before WOTLK i  just didnt realize it . Blizzard made a great game that will not be equaled in subs for some time to come but i believe the game has peaked with nowhere to go but down.

Im not going to do the survey but overall my feelings towrd WOW are that it is geared toward the very casual gamer......It is too easy for players that are more hardcore........It basically took everything EQ did and made it easy then offered instant gratification on top of that........While it does attract millions, most of us that played other MMOs before it would hardly endorse it as the best game........

Moonguard server in WoW is excellent. A lot of players in the starter area and beyond. I recall the server load been medium like 1 year ago, now I came back and it's High/Full. Also checked other servers and I was surprised the game is not a barren at lower levels.

I really do enjoy playing the game, but honestly if I didnt take a month break every so often, I'd go crazy from all of the grinding and head-banging you have to do to survive in the game.

I'd almost agree with you if patch 3.1 didn't solve the hardcore players thirst for challenging endgame. For those who say Ulduar is a joke your just plain ignorant cause frankly its can't pug it past the 1st boss in most cases. Also the new boss in VoA isn't in the least pug friendly.

why are you posting this here... MMORPG.com is a wow hating paradise... if you want the opinions of people who likes wow... you need to go to wow ingame and ask... they are playing wow at this very moment...

the difference between wow lovers and wow haters is...

wow lovers are too busy playing the game they love... instead of trolling on forums, defending their game or attacking other games...

and as for wow haters... they "claim" they like a game... but they are never even playing that game... all they do is troll forums insult wow and defend their fanboiz game and they never even actually play it... stupid? yea i know...

While i agree that his question left things wide open for WOW haters, i dont see that happening. Myself and others have commented on the way WOW has gone since BC was released. If you think the game hasnt been nerfed then perhaps it is you that does not play this game. I have (had)  played it since before BC and see a much different game since its release.

Rofl I hardly ever comment on threads on this forum, but for some reason this one gave me a chuckle.    Someone said something about biased opinions, but to be honest I think on this site all you will get is biased opinions.  As for WoW when I think back on it its the only game that lived that after I played it for the initial "shiny new game" factor I put it down and never went back.   However looking at this thread its one of those threads that works for most any game on this forum just change a few acronyms and I can make this a thread about darkfall or age of conan or any other one.   I just tried it and that is what gave me the laugh.   J ust pick a couple of games and substitute those names works for any game on this site lol.
