I played the game upto the free cap and really enjoyed it. Once you get out of Hawksmouth the quests get alot more interesting especially the house quests. Also, most of the idiots who keep playing over and over to 7.9 because they don't actually want to P2P are gone :)

I decided to buy a bunch of coins during the Acclaim promo which will do me for 3 months. The coins went into my account within 5mins. Logged back in and was all set.

My account didn't mysteriously crash and I was still able to login fine.

I had no issues at all with GameGuard.

So you guys endorse the game? I am even beta weary these days.

Played (more than a month): SWG, Second Life, Tabula Rasa, Lineage 2, Everquest 2, EvE, MxO, Ryzom.

Tried: WoW, Shadowbane, Anarchy Online, Everquest, WWII Online, Planetside

    Beta: Lotro, Tabula Rasa, WAR.

I also agree, the game is the most fun I have played in a long long while. I have a 24 Ancestral Mage, 16 Trickster and 11 Blood warrior and I enjoy them all for very different reasons.

I'm enjoying the game as well.

I played quite a few characters to the freebie cap and then iI subbed recently.

I am not a huge fan of the plethora of "kill x boars" quests... but that seems to be lightening up a bit as I progress now.

I am on the NA servers but I am still sad to see Sabre go :(

I hope they tighten up on allowing multiple High Houses a common ground in guilds... there should be no common ground.

I also am not the biggest fan of the acclaim coin system, but it's nothing that would keep me from subbing.

Got some free coins through the surveys offered, bought the rest to carry me for a couple of months. Coins went in instantly and had zero issues witht the transition from free to pay.

    I love the skill deck.

    I love the manual aiming.

I love PEP and how you are rewarded for not dying.

I love the politics and the lore.

I love the graphics and art direction.

I love the music and atmospheric sounds.

    I love the pace.

Great game. Not everyone will like it, but everyone should at least try it.

    They never go away...BUT....

The devs apparently have a sense of humor about these things.....as I found out today doing a quest chain that ended with "egg on my face".

I don't want to ruin it....but the devs KNOW that we hate these quests......they give them to us anyway, and make a joke of it.

There is so much humor in this game, hidden in the most unlikely ways and places.

Yup, me too, right now i don't think it's a real issue but when everyone's a bit higher and PvP becomes a bigger issue I'm pretty sure that will change. Right now House priorities override Guild priorities, meaning you could be at war against another guild but unable to beat on enemy players in your house, as I understand anyhow...

i've been trying out different classes for a couple weeks and love this game more and more with each passing day. i will be subbing this weekend and leveling above the free zones/levels. it's been a long time i've been looking/hoping to find a game that was this exciting. soooo happy with it so far and very pleased at all the positive reports from those who are higher up.

now i just need to find a guild and decide on a house. i wish there was more info on current population distribution among the houses. does anyone know if there's any site that can tell me population break downs for the NA servers?

    thanks!

And honestly, screenshots don't even do this game justice. The shadow layering, the smooth animation, rolling clouds....it's such an immersive, beautiful world.

The potential for this game is astonishing.

Just to show that their isn't a an overall majority of LOVE for this game, I have played the game and found it utterly boring, tedious and slow. The graphics aren't really that impressive(not after playing LOTRO and AoC) and the controls and gameplay are so slow and clunky.

Good luck to those who like the game, I for one am not a fan.

You'll pardon us if we don't take you very seriously, especially considering the highlighted. There's nothing st ALL "slow" or "clunky" about Spellborn. I'd consider it far more fluid and smooth than both AoC and LOTRO, and certainly more fast paced.

Graphics wise....considering the fact that this is an indie developer who doesn't have the kind of budget that either Turbine or Funcom had to work with, I'd say they did damn well. It's not cutting edge, but it's smooth, beautiful in it's stylized way, and doesn't require the latest hardware to run smoothly.

You are of course entitled to your opinion. Just as I am entitled to tell you that you are wrong.

huh...considering the clunkiness of AoC which approached the feeling of driving a tank, i can only assume you're making a joke here. i can't honestly imagine anyone truly feeling this way. we are all entitled to our own opinions, but the above just doesn't really make sense (to me).

I don't think it matters how seriously you take him or not, I doubt he is joking about his opinion, and his opinion is the controls and gameplay are slow and clunky, and since that's his opinion, and he's serious, is there a reason not to take him seriously? Afterall, we all are entitled to our opinions.

And I'm guessing on some rigs the game runs fine, on others it doesn't, but I run LoTRO maxed, Aion maxed, and AOC near maxed and get way better performance on those games than I do from Spellborn. And I wasn't running Spellborn maxed, either, like the others, or anywhere near it.

The gameplay to me got slow, and quite boring after a while, too. After Ringfell it kind of drizzled out for me, no idea why, but it did. I didn't feel I was doing much ingame when I would log in, being semi-casual, so the game to me was quite slow, most of my time was spent just running to the NPCs, that's all I had time for. And this is post level-20.

Maybe some comments about how poorly the game was put together, that it was on the same quality-level of a F2P, or some off the wall comments that really just don't stick, that's something to brush off and not take lightly. But someone's general take on the game, just because you strongly disagree, doesn't mean he's wrong -- he can't be wrong for not liking the game, especially when the Spellborn community acknowledges it being a niche game, but yet when the mass doesn't approve, you go into a hayfit trying to defend it, it's almost as bad as Darkfall at times just without all the 12 year old bantering. What do you think a "niche title" is? A title the entire planet is going to love?

Plus, the game just looks OK. It doesn't look bad, but there aren't any vistas ingame that are just draw-dropping, it just looks OK. But then again that's my opinion so I'm probably just wrong and you shouldn't take me seriously, or this entire reply for that matter.

    HI All,

Looking for a new mmorpg.  Researching this game has kind of confused me.  Is this game in Beta as MMORPG site says?  Are people actually subscribing to play in an open beta?

Is the beta only for NA servers?

Once you download the client can you choose which servers you want to enter?

    Thanks

The game launched in Europe before it came to NA, so the game is technically live because it launched in Europe a few months ago, the NA version just entered open beta phase a month or so ago. The game might as well be launched, tho, it isn't being treated as a beta, really, at all.

There is a level cap, 7.9, for free players. It acts as a trial, there is no time limit. If you choose you like the game you can subscribe by Acclaim coins or wait until they have the monthly $15 option ready, which should be soon. So yes, if you want to play, you are "paying for beta."

There is no real difference between the NA and EU servers other than the EU is in "live mode" and the NA is not, and the EU gets patches faster. They are two completely seperate clients, two distinct downloads off two different websites.

Once you download the client you can choose your servers like any other game, PVP or PVE. If you want to play simply goto the website (http://www.tcos.com) download the client, make an account and play. If you make it to level 7.9 and like it, subscribe by purchasing Acclaim coins.

I think the reason hes saying that the controls are "clunky" is because turning left or right is very slow, the "Q" and "E" keys are by default the turn keys, but I found that using the mouse to turn while strafing makes the game A LOT faster to turn and it feels very fluid indeed.

As long as you're going into mouse mode (F) when you go into combat, turning and everything should be easy enough.

Actually, it's R. F is to draw your weapon / ready for combat.

I cannot imagine why anyone would choose to turn with the keys, ever.  I leave it in mouse-turn mode all the time, except for the brief seconds when I have to click on the loot window, and it works great.  You really don't need a cursor for anything else.
