If EA offered pre-AOS servers, would you go back?

vaultbrainvaultbrain Member Posts: 122

Its pretty straight forward. If EA were to finally wake up and make Pre-AOS servers, would you go back despite the 2d grpahics and so called outdated tech?

Personally, I would. I would go back despite the game being in 2d. Because, even though its still 2d, the game play and freedom UO offered before AOS trumps the "pretty" games with their 3d graphics.

The old UO players really need to get back to posting their wants when it comes to UO. the more support classic servers have, the better the chance they have of coming true.

I'm assuming you mean Pre-UO:R servers.

i closed my account in 2001. would my character and equipment still be there if i resubbed now?

You mean paying €13 for an unsupported server like they have 'Siege'?

It'd take more than that for me to go back again, I'd need a new interface/graphics update. I'm not saying full 3D but it'd have to be improved as it's simply too dated looking and the UI isn't flexible enough.

If they put some effort into the UI/graphics and gave us pre-trammel servers I'd go back, it's the only way though.

Graphics and UI would bring me back thats it. Doesn't have to be state of the art graphics but it does need to be easier to manage and not so dated looking.

This isn't a signature, you just think it is.

They just did a graphics and UI overhaul with Kingdom Reborn.

Lordmord - not enough. From what I've seen it's still a rehashed but tired looking interface with some new models. I've been tempted for a while to give the trial a whirl though, might well do that this week at some point. Sadly the ruleset hasn't been improved, I'd prefer pre-trammel.

Well, unfortunately folks, this is EA we are talking about. So it would boil down to one or the other. New graphics and interface or classic, pre trammel, servers?

If you ask me, the old interface was fine. You could set your spells where you needed them. You could leave your back pack open and set it to the side of the screen for easy access to your gear. Actually, when I think about it, old UO's interface was better than WoWs, AOCs, LOTROs or any of the other MMOs ive played.

As for graphics, Id take UO's old game play over graphics anyday. Id play in 2d again if it meant being able to play pre-trammel. 3D doesnt mean a better game.

I'd be back in a heartbeat. No questions ask

If they made a pre Tram server i would be back playing again. Probally my favorite game of all time next to Star fleet command.

I would give it another shot if they went back

Its good to see people still want to play UO the way it was meant to be played.

I would jump back into uo ina  heartbeat if they opened upa new server or a new game that was just like the pre aos game. PVP in any game after uo has never been the same. I would want to be able to character transfer over though, after playing for 9 years i would not be in the mood for working up yet another character. Maybe if they made it so you coudl transfer your character if he/she had under 100 or less of each skill and no items on them.

I agree, there was nothing wrong with Pre AOS interface. I also agree that it was better than most new games. When i played Lineage II and WOW i acutally tried to replicate the UO view and interface as much as possible.

I too agree that gameplay is far more important that graphics. The ultima graphics were fine considering how the game worked. I woudl take the game play over new graphics anyday. Unfortunately, i don't see EA acutally opening a Pre AOS server. i don't knwo why they just havef a way to do nothing i want. theyve done it for 9 years.

I looked on the forums at the site you posted stun mages etc this crap was not back before tram.  They started adding this stuff in later it looks like. I can not remember a person stunning anyone in uo when i played. I looked on the pvp forum at some of the pvp. Blue looking beetles at the brit xroads wtf is that lol?  It looks like they made uo into some type of oddball game from its former self.

For all of you wishing for pre-trammel shards, what is wrong with Siege Perilous?

I agree. As time goes by my standards have changed. Not because I only care about eye candy but the suspension of disbelief is what it really boils down to with me. I remember the game-mechanics were to my liking but then so was the original Bionic Commando but I don't play that anymore either....

I think alot of people jsut like to talk about the older MMos like UO and EQ and how they would go back if things were the way they used to be.....Truth is both games have private servers that people can play on and almost no one plays......I tried the top UO server and it was lucky to even have 100 people at peak.......Alot of these guys talk but when it comes down to it they would not go back.......

If UO made a purely orginal server, the way the rules were in the first few months, I would rush back. When there was no red grey or blue, no penalties for killing or stealing. When houses could be broken into and robbed. When the game was fun and punishing.

I played on a private server for a while and it shut down. The serevr was called metropolis. It was a good server I had to leave for a little while for rl stuff went back and it was gone.  I did not play the server very long because of it closing.  So I would say yes if they made a classic server I would probally go back playing.  It was the same experience I remembered when I played on the personal player shard. No blue beetles or anything like that, it felt like the old uo again.

  • GrumiumGrumium Member UncommonPosts: 57

I checked out that site and I would rather play on a server where they have no stuns, I scene a thing called conc blows (wtf is that?) , lumberjacking adds, inscription poisoning  or all the other junk they added into the game. I want to play old style before there were adds like that. I looked on the forums for the site you listed in the pvp section. The player shard i played on did not have any of that.  No blue beetles, no wierd looking lizard mounts, no combat macro's or anything like that lol. Looks like you pretty much don't have to do anything the macro's you run do it all for you now.

those are free servers, run by hackers and are poorly put together. They do not measure up to the servers that were run by OSI back in the day. That is why the free servers have low pops. They claim to have the old school rules, but something is always wrong or not implimented correctly.

  • If I look at where the MMo market is going now I believe UO is far to dated to even work as a pre-AoS, pre-UO:R pre-t2a etc.. It just wouldn't pull in people, and would not be economicly sound for EA to do that. People who are still obessed with this games old drawn out game play have moved on to free servers and have lost the dream of EA ever trying to do a rebuild of code that has been dead for about 8 years.
