The thing is, players have already voted. With their wallets.

I was looking at the Shadowbane announcement thread and there were so many people who were bummed that shadowbane was closing. But then it got me to thinking, how many of them currently played?

You see, though I can commiserate with the players who are playing I can't help thinking that if players wanted to play they would have already been playing.

Conversely, if you want to save shadowbane, perhaps you should just commit players to coming back.

If the dev's for Shadowbane got a certain amount of subscriptions they might be more convinced to keep the game open.

Because all this is going to do is to show the dev's that a certain amount of people would like the game to stay open but that's it.

What if you went to the dev's and said, if I could get you 1000 subscriptions would you keep it open for another month.

Then work it month by month.

Or ask them, how many subs would you need to keep the game open fo 2 months.

It's more of a "put your money where your mouth is type of thing.".

Otherwise, you'll show this to them and they will say "thanks, we appreciate it but we can't pay our bills, pay our employees, give them benefits, etc.".

A sad day. Shadowbane ad its issues, but those who played really liked that game.

I always noted that the life expectancy of MMOs is still ill defined. HOwever, with the huge number of MMOs now out there and a somewhat faltering gameing economy ...I wouldnt be surprised if we now start seeing a significant number of MMos close their doors. Especially the ones who are older and dont show signs of expanding their playerbase. EQ1? DAOC? Matrix?

    Interesting times for MMOs

The interesting # is not those who will sign an online petition that takes a few moments, but sign with the $15/month subscription fee.

The players signed a petition already unfortunately, saying they no longer wanted Shadowbane to exist.  Every player who clicked the "Cancel Account" button (link, drop down, whatever) signed this petition... and it far outweighs anybody signing the petition to "save" the game.

When it boils down to it... it cost money to keep an MMO running.  It's a business decision, not the decision of a few people who "used to play back in 2004" who have fond memories... as I stated earlier, those people signed the "petition to close".

I'm sorry, I cannot sign this petition.

...but on the other side, I never canceled the account I never had.  So I'm not sure if I signed a petition to close it in the first place, because I voted not to buy the game originally.

Good luck to those who do though.
