They did not make darkfall to make profit, if that was the case they would not create such a niche game. Thus, their business plan does not have to be viable nor profitable. Moron

im sorry to ask you this question.

but are you that stupid you belive that crap?

if you dont care for results and just want to have a good time, you buy some beer, some pot or what ever, you bloody DONT uses 10 miilion euros (or what ever this game have cost to produce) of other peoples money.

IF you use that much money on something (and have convinced someone to sponsor you) you really DO care for results and profit.

anyone, and i mean ANYONE that belives anything else has been dropped way to much as a baby.

But why wont they make money then?

I just ask because i agree with you. But they still refuse to make money. What is thier plan? Its agenst all common sense. Is this some weird beta, and soon they will say "so long suckers" to us and moves to China? We have no idea.

Maybe a portion of those invested millions did go toward bong parties and liquor runs.

    Who knows?

    I can see it now:

Tasos: "-inhales deeply- Dude... we have... like... *tons* of money to finish this game... -exhale- It'll be the best thing ever, the ultimate MMO, better than anything else on the market, bar none. No one will be able to touch us and will gaze in wide-eyed wonder at our sheer awesomeness, wondering how they can even possibly come *close* to our skills. -chug- They'll see. We'll show the world!! If we go to E3, everyone will fall at our feet in worship, begging to know our secrets. And if they don't agree that Darkfall is *THE* ultimate MMO experience... they're just carebears and could never handle the pure awesomeness of Darkfall, and should stick to WoW. Dude... I'm awesome, ain't I? Of course I am. Anyone record what I just said? Quote it... I'd like to have it for my next interview... Here's an idea... We should include a full-size poster of me flexing so people can hang it on the wall near their computer and worship me as they play.

And if none of that works out.. Well... We can just say "we're just an indie company, what do you expect?"

Shit... we're almost outta weed... Hit up the investors for more cash... we need to resupply... Where's the baklavah?"

"If you just step away for a sec you will clearly see all the pot holes in the road,
and the cash shop selling asphalt..."

Darkfall doesn't work that way. You have to WANT IT. If you're not willing to fight to play the game, then you won't last an hour in the game itself.
AV isn't trying to get rich off this. They aren't trying to attract every disgruntled ex-WoW player, and they sure as HELL don't want a bunch of whiners. They made a game, for the sake of the game, and for those who understand the kind of game they made.
Darkfall is what it is. If you're not willing to go for it, then you wouldn't like it anyway.

unless one of the AV guys is filthy rich and have sponsored the entire show i would say i disagree with you 100%.

they have had the idea of a game, they have convinced people to put money into that idea

(and people who do that dont do it because it sounds fun, they do it because they have been convinced there are money to make)

please stop trying to glorify AV, they are NOT  saints.

they are in it for the money like every other company making mmo´s.

    You are right.

They are in it for the money.  No one creates a for profit company that isn't in it for the cash.

They way of handling it.. on the other hand.. is hightly questionable.

But.. guess what.. I'm playing the game, and having fun.  So, I don't care.

    but you should care.

you wont be playing Darkfall forever.

what if the creatores of you next game have seen what AV have done and do even more questionable stuff?

dont get me wrong, i think its nice you like the game, i really do.

i just dont think AV should get away with all their tricks.

Partially agree with you here. I also don't mind (sometimes preffer) to buy an online version of the game, but very often (if the difference in price is minimal) I get boxed version because with CD/DVD:

    - you often save on initial download time (especially if the game is 10+ gigs, try downloading that with 30-50kbs average)

    - a physical manual gives you the basics on the game. Yes it changes in time, but at that specific moment it is very accurate and introduces you to the game lore, UI, game mechanics and what have you. With physical manual you can actually play the game as you read. No need to ALT+TAB back and forth to read details;

    - its safer to recover/remember game keys if they are on the back of your game box (i mean the game box itself, that one that holds the actual CD/DVD, which is very slim and does not take that much space);

Again, personally I usualy prefer a downloadable version, but I can understand if someone doesnt. Only once in my life did I not like the downloadable option - when I was purchasing Europa Universalis 3 In Nomine expansion. I had to signup with some downloading site I never heard of before, remember username/password there, and I think I even had to kind of install something, a programm or installer some sort. That was the only time that I would really prefer to buy boxed version, but unfortunately that game was not sold at the store, so I had to go through all those little inconveniances to get it. The game was worth it though.

Look, I play the game and I've followed it for years.

That being said ( and this is *not* an attempt at trolling, it's just the truth ) counting on what AV or Tasos having said to be true is just not a good bet.

Cripes, you could just take the number of times regarding the start of beta to see many statements that didn't come true. Tasos doesn't go into apology mode ( or even offering an explanation most times ) if something he said does not come true.....so just be at peace with that - he's got his hands full working on the game so most DF followers are going to forgive him for promises made and not delivered on.

The game is what it is, accept it as that or find another game, you'll be happier with that attitude, trust me.

that AV wants to make money?

please enlighten me instead of just writing stuff like that.

unless offcourse, you will just try and lecture me with yet another naive praising of how great AV is.

then its you who dont understand.

and its ok, i will bear over with you.

Progress comes when people take something and improve it. WIth your comment, there is no room for improvement. Take what you have an leave it. This means anything that follows after this (patches, updates, expansions, new game, anything really)  is gonna be worse. And you dont want your future MMOs to be worse, do you?

That is why very often companies ask for their client's opinions, comments or suggestions. You can call that whining, complaining or what have you, but because of that things usually improve. I say usualy because some companies don't seem to learn or care about improving their service. If we, consumers, keep silent about that, we encourage those "bad" companies to continue doing what they are doing.

I dont want to end up back in Soviet Union, where they had single-brand-one-size-fits-them-all shoes and if anyone complained they sent them to gulags. No, thank you very much.

I have no reason to care.  I can't change the way AV does business.  I understand thigns don't last forever (or I'd still be playing AC on a full server!)

I'm also not all that dumb.  I pay 15 bucks a month for content and access and fun.  If I'm not getting 2 of those 3 things, then I'll quit.  Plan and again, simple.

Nope. what I'm saying is that trying to explain something to you that you're not going to understand anyway is pointless, and there are 60 tiger shrimp on my coffee table that are far more worth my time.

Look, I can tell you guys are just itching for an argument...cool. I hope someone cares enough to waste their time giving it to you. But that person is not me. I have shrimps to eat.

Aw the old I have a bigger e-peen then the rest of you and will drop names to prove it argument since I have no real argument and have to run and hide behind my e-peen-ness. Wow tiger shrimp, my local wholesale membership club sales them does that make my town so much more hardcore and e-peen-ly?

Sadly the server can't afford a mass influx of players, which is what's sure to happen with a mass release.  And, then the server would lag and it would be impossible to play, thus causing people to leave in droves.
If you want to play Darkfall (which is why you posted this, correct?), then you're goign to have to go through the same crap that the rest of the players did.

Then I'm not going to buy it. It's that simple. And you know what? A lot of people aren't going to buy it, not the least of reasons being the number of hoops and leaps of faith in AV you have to make in order to purchase and then be permitted to play. And no, it's not simple at all. It's like an experiment in the foolishness that consumers will tolerate.

Frankly, I don't give a flying fuck about AV's server problems or whatever paltry excuse they give as to why they can't handle a massive influx of players. What the hell use is a massive game if it can't support a massive amount of people?

I want to play Darkfall, but not in its current subscription format. For $50 I expect a box, a hardcopy of the game, and a manual. And that's at a minimum.

Again, this is an insane way to do business. And I thought SOE was bad. Sheesh...

Wow.. for someone who doesn't want to buy it, you sure are throwing a fucking fit.  Grow up.  You can't play darkfall because you don't like the way they do business. Move on and quit bitching.  I've never seen someone whine so much and make excuses for their piss poor attitude.

If a lot of people buy it.. then they do.  But it does not affect you one way or the other..   Move on.  There are a lot of other things to worry about, your ability to buy a video game.. shouldn't be something you should spend more then 2 minutes on.

Lol, this is the exact reason for the original post.
