Personnaly i'd play this game and see if i like it before paying for the expansions.

What you will do is entirely up to you.

Personally I would just play prophocies for a few weeks to see if it is a game that I would like before buying any of the expansions. With a little time you should be able to tell if it is a game you want to put more money and time into. i am not sure which expansion would have more people in it since I only had played the core game when it first came out, and got sick of it wishin a short period of time. If I had to take a guess though, I would think that since the game has been out so long those that are still playing would have probably stayed up to date with all the expanisons and been in the most recent one.

Will have to find out from someone who is still playing the game though to find out what expansion is most popular.

So you bought Prophecies by itself, and don't have anything else?

If you're mainly interested in PvE, you might want to play through Prophecies first to see if you like the game before buying anything else.  If you're solely interested in PvP, then it might have been better to get the PvP access kit instead.  If you're interested in both, having only Prophecies will put you at a substantial disadvantage for PvP.

For PvP use, the campaigns are probably more important than Eye of the North, as they have a lot more skills, as well as all of the elite skills.  Factions is necessary for some types of PvP, and Nightfall has the most heroes for hero battles.

For PvE, the order in which to do things depends on what you like to do.  If you're the sort of person who wants to get as strong as possible as quickly as possible by whatever means, going straight for Eye of the North, getting the PvE-only skills and consumables (which basically function as cheat codes to let incompetent players clear PvE content), and grinding for ranks in the associated title tracks is the way to do it.  If you're that sort of person, you probably won't like Guild Wars, though, as such people tend to complain there's not enough level and gear grinding for their taste.

If instead you're one who likes to play through content for the sake of playing through content, I'd follow the order in which the campaigns were released.  Prophecies is arguably the best from a content quality perspective, though Factions and Nightfall are pretty good, too.  Prophecies definitely has the best storyline.  Factions is the hardest, even with heroes.  Eye of the North isn't bad, but it's nowhere near being up to the standards set by the campaigns.  Additionally, when only Prophecies and Factions were out, there were no heroes, so having heroes when doing those campaigns does make it a lot easier.  There are also storyline references in later campaigns to earlier ones, especially in Nightfall.  The significance of coming across Shiro and the Lich in Gate of Madness won't make sense if you haven't already done Prophecies and Factions.

To be clear, the order in which the campaigns were released is Prophecies first, then Factions, then Nightfall.  Eye of the North was released last, and is an expansion, not a campaign.

If you think the PvE content is too easy, then try avoiding the PvE-only cheats (PvE-only skills and consumables) and switch to hard mode, as you can do after beating a campaign.  That will probably make a lot of things undoable with only henchmen, though nearly everything is doable with henchmen and heroes that way.  Everything is doable with heroes and other players.

Either way if you like PvE, PvP or both you should def. get factions and nightfall.

    Because of:

    1) More PvE content obviously

    2) More skills for both PvE and PvP

    3) 4 additional classes

    4) Most everyone does all of their trading in Kamadan (major city in nightfall)

Now if you like these campaigns and the PvE content they provide then I'd go ahead and get Eye of the North.

EotN does not come with new classes but it has a good amount of PvE content as well as skills and armor sets.

Me personally, I did not like the PvE EotN had to offer. Atleast not compared to Prophecies. However I'm glad I got  it for the additional skills, Hall of Monuments and new armor sets. (I'm not a big fan of micro transactions)

    Good luck!

Try finishing Prophecies first before buying the other games. As for your second question, Factions and Nightfall are stand-alone campaigns and not expansions. The only true expansion is Eye of the North. But for the sake of answering your question, I'd personally go for Nightfall first, then Factions. It's a matter of preference really, as you can get heroes (Companion characters that are way better than mercenaries.) from Nightfall. If you plan on completing all of the titles and also plan on getting Guild Wars 2 when it comes out, I suggest you also get Eye of the North. The Hall of Monuments in EOTN preserves all your achievements in all of the campaigns and the expansion, and unlocks features in Guild Wars 2. ^_^

Never underestimate the power of the dark side.

I like doing things in chronological order, so I'd play through Prophecies first, then get Factions, proceed to Nightfall and finish up with Eye of the North. Factions is the "worst" of all the Guild Wars games in my opinion, so getting that out of the way early is a good thing. Factions shines in the PvP department so it's worth getting for sure. You'll also need it for the skills. So many people say one should get Nightfall for the heroes, but in all honesty heroes have never ever been necessary. They just encourage you to solo and make it easier.

I would have to agree with what everyone else that you should make sure the game is for you. However, if you have already decided you love the game I would just get the Trilogy since that would be cheaper in the long run. I just got my step-bro the Trilogy once he decided he really enjoyed the game. Instead of using the Trilogy code for his Prophecies acct he decided to use that acct for Pre only chars.

Some people say NightFall is better because you can get Heros. You really would have an eaiser time beating the game if you got NF. As for the expansions, every campaign has its hang out spots. If you want to get the most out of Guild wars get all three campaigns but its not a necessity.
