anyway my name is numara, i got xpadder an set up the keys but when i open Play online it just stops working, anyone out there that can help me out
Hmmm... I wasn't sure what xpadder was, so I googled it quick and... from what I can see, it basically emulates your keyboard on a gamepad?
If so, I think that, firstly, it might simply be that it's not compatible with FFXI.. Don't know that for sure, so don't quote me.
However, I also think it might be redundant because FFXI has native gamepad support. It was, in fact, originally designed for a console (PS2). So, if you have a PS2 style or 360 style PC gamepad, you can go into the config (Start > Play Online > Final Fantasy XI > Final Fantasy XI Config) and set it up in there. You'll be off and running. The only thing you'll have to do is put the gamepad down to type.
Other than that... I can't help you with the xpadder setup, unfortunately :-/.
Yeah, it just lets you put keyboard/mouse functions on your controller. It's compatible with everything (including FFXI), since every program just reads it as a keyboard/mouse, and not a controller. I thought that it might be a nice semi-fix if he can't get those two buttons working properly with the FFXI 's own key binding thing.
Basically, xpadder provides you with hundreds of different pictures of controllers, and you pick your specific controller from the sets of pictures. Once you pick the picture of your controller, you can click on the parts of the picture where buttons on your controller are, which allow you to bind certain KB/M functions on to that specific button. You can even multi-bind keyboard/mouse functions on buttons of your controller (for example, say you have a PS2 controller... you could bind the keys ctrl+alt+del to the square button, and whenever you would hit the square button, it would bring up task manager).
My explanations kind of suck, so here's a picture!
The text at the top is kind of jumbled (curse ye photobucket), but it's a picture of my xpadder profile for Oblivion. As you can see, there is a corresponding keyboard/mouse function for every button, based on the picture of my controller. You can also save different profiles for different games. It's pretty useful for stuff like this/PC games that don't naturally support gamepads.
EDIT: As for your problem eVE, are you sure you bound the buttons correctly? Try binding simple functions on some parts of your controller. Like, try binding the A or B button with a comma, or a period. Then open up notepad or something, and hit the button you bound those functions to to see if it's working the way it should.

Originally posted by eVE-404 i was googling around and there where a number of people who use it to play FFXI with the 360 controller but i cant find a topic about the problem im having, iv configurated the keys in ff11 game pad conflig but there are two buttons that do not get picked up on the conflig as it cannot read axis keys so i wanted to use xpadder so that the axis keys are the alt and ctrl keys. i hope you get what i mean.
I already gave you the 2 only things you need to play FFXI without any problem with your 360 controller in my previous post. You don't have to register on ffxionline forums to download the zipped guide, and you have the custom drivers that come with software to customize the pad and different profiles ready in the other site.
I only used those 2 resources and i'm happily playing with mine with 0 problems. No xpadder involved, just custom drivers, a profile for the software that comes with the drivers, and the guide to assign buttons in the ffxiconfig utility that comes with the game.

hey guys. just started playing FFXI, also on kujata server. hume warrior, ingame name is Aelthor. just looking for friendly players to show me the ropes.
i was in ffxi at launch and for 2 years after i know thats not much but here is the issue with the game this year i tried to give it another chance after wotlk failed imo so i did and all i have to say is yes it is way to late if you dindt start this game at least in 05 your going to have a hell of a time buying just about anything after the rmt ruined the in game econemy you seriously have to know someone with millions of gil who is willing to loan you some or your sol from levels 1-65 expect to not get any gear upgrades none the less spells if you decide to play as a caster its just not going to happen i gave it 3 months and could not progress as a blm anywhere past 40 if you absolutly have to play the game at this time i recomend bst as your first and main job
You sure about that? I've seen people not really have any problems at all. If anything some of the problems are not enough of certain equipment, not the cost. Of course that's only when I'm leveling a job, then there are a bunch of them after I don't need it anymore. I don't know anyone that had to borrow that amount of gil for anything. Only if you're going all HQ'd out would you ever need that much gil. That much gil needed was from RMT days, it's nowhere even close to that.
Also, please use a period next time. It make it kinda' hard to read.
Just started on Odin myself. Im lvl 20 Whm/Blm after 3 days of playing. Starting all over, had a lvl 35 Bst on Alexandra. Was hard to find pt on that server so i figure ill start fresh on FFXI busiest server. So far finding pt preaty fast, alot running around in Dunes. Im glad i made a guy on Odin along time ago.
Would like to make some new friends and join a busy Linkshell if i can. Names Warheart. See ya on Odin !
I'm planning on starting fresh again shortly myself, downloading the trial right now so I can utilize the 14 free days it offers.
Then I plan to immediatly upgrade using the Vana'diel Collection once my trial time is expired (or a day before it expires, rather, just to be on the safe side). I played a few years back on Fairy, and it was the fondest mmo experience I have ever had to this day.
Judging by this thread and the helpful posters within, Kujata looks like my destination server of choice. Nothing better than a friendly community to get you back into the swing of things!
Alot of the new additions have me really excited to be entirely honest, I can't wait to finish downloading/updating. I will update accordingly with my character name here once ingame
I was wondering if somone could get me a pass to odin? it will not let me create on odins it does not show up in the list
I don't believe Odin currently accepts the creation of new characters unless you previously had a character on that server.
This is due to Odin being extremely popular, and as such, the server is generally at capacity Someone can correct me if I am mistaken, but I believe that is fairly accurate from what I have read.
That'll be a few hours at least. I'm still working, so I'll catch up with you after. Just let me know the character name to look you up with or do a search for me in the game. I'll be about 4 hours, which is about how long you'll have on the patching (bleh, I know).
To be the best, you must help each other become the best. FFXI Character: Satimasu FFXI Server: Valefor FFXIV Character: Tamorae Fonteil

No worries, I actually expected as much regarding the patching process. I remembered it being fairly hefty back in the day, so be it, I'm not an impatient man by any means.
That sounds like a great plan to me, I'll do an ingame search for you once I get finished updating, get my character created and get all settled in.

I blame Limit Break Radio (well, half-jokingly anyway). They're stationed on that server and, as the show became more popular and they opened transfers, a bunch of people started moving there... Which of course led to people thinking "Oh, Odin's one of the better servers because it has more people..." which led to even more moving there.. To the point where they've had to stop people from starting/moving there.
Personally... I'm perfectly happy on Pandy .

Funny you mention that, because I had just read the same thing. Apparently LBR is so popular, for good reason, that it is almost regarded as the sole reason for Odin filling up rapidly.
You have to go to the FFXI outside of the game. You have to be logged out of the game for it to come up in the POL folder. For whatever reason, it starts out with almost the lowest settings.
To be the best, you must help each other become the best. FFXI Character: Satimasu FFXI Server: Valefor FFXIV Character: Tamorae Fonteil
I've been looking for a new MMO for a while now, after growing quickly tired of others that are available. Having been a long-time fan of Final Fantasy, this looked like a good choice and reading the boards here has pushed me to give the trial a go (now that the code has finally arrived in my email inbox).
Fingers crossed that this estimated 10 hours of updating doesn't have any problems! At least it leaves me with a bit of time to take a look at races and jobs while it sorts itself out.
It's nice to see that there are friendly and helpful people around, as from what I have read about the game so far it feels rather intimidating to a new player such as myself, especially one that gets pretty worried about making mistakes that cost the party as a whole. Simply being yelled at for doing something wrong without any sort of advice on how to avoid it in the future, that was one of my bigger worries and why I didn't give much thought about trying the game sooner. I'm hopeful now that it won't be much of an issue.
Since they added Level Syncing, partying is rarely a problem these days, I normally make my partys and it barely takes me 10 minuets to make. I only recently came back a few weeks a go from a year and a half hiatus and I'm loving it, my LS seems to have more people on it than before, I have a set for Nyzul, assault and ToAU missions.
So to answer peoples question as to whether this is too late to comr back to.....it isn't. :P
