Because you can get it from screwing pigs.  So let this be a lesson to all of you contemplating bestiality, don't screw pigs.

I was just wondering, when the bird flu hit they were finding it in birds and killed off entire farms of them. With the swine flu so far nothing has been found in any pigs. And why the hell is it infecting all types of people but only killing mexicans? Maybe its still too soon to get any real answers about this.

    a) Its only killing in Mexican Hospitals. Their healthcare isnt that amazing to say the least.

    b) Its not "wide spread" like bird flu was. At this point we really don't know much and its 99% sensationalist media.

And just think, Mexico has socialized medicine.  I know I'm looking forward to it.

But to go back to Shamall's original question, the Secretary of Agriculture made it a point today to refer to this virus as the H1N1 strain, because he says swine flu is inaccurate and it's hurting the pork industry.  But swine flu is just easier.

  • MunkiMunki Member CommonPosts: 2,128

What does socialized healthcare have to do with anything? lol

As per the response to the original question, I dont think its going to change from swine flu any time soon.

Looks like that whole Pork on your Fork campaigns gonna be shot to hell.

You're the one who said Mexico's healthcare isn't that great.  I merely pointed out that their healthcare is socialized.  Don't you think one might have something to do with the other?

    Could be a race specific bio weapon.  Keep an eye on this site for the most up to date info, if it is;

Even if deaths are "race specific" it does not mean it is a biological weapon. Just as the Native Americans died off in the masses from common European viruses, this could also  be the case.  There is the possibility of the " plague gene" just as offspring from plague victims may have a natural immunity to the plague,  there could be a natural immunity more prevelant in some races than others for H1N1, this is just unknown at this time.

I think you are just putting "illogical" on something you don't agree with.

You don't think that taking the incentive to make money from hospitals/pharmaceutical companies/healthcare providers will cause the care quality/speed of innovation and advancement to suffer.  That is your opinion and one could call it illogical as well, but I'm sure you would have an issue with that.

Ok. Right. This bashing of Free Healthcare is really stupid.

The choices you have are Free Healthcare for the masses (i.e the NHS in the UK) Running alongside it you also have Private Healthcare for people who can afford it.

Private Healthcare is generally better than Public Healthcare true. But some people can't afford it. Should they be allowed to just die in the streets because of this?

Yes the NHS is of a lower standard than most private healthcare clinics but so what? Yes it is a money sink for the government but again so what? The benefits of free health care far out weighs the negatives. I am perfectly happy for my taxes to go towards this.

Maybe if the USA diverted some of the millions it spends on defence to actually looking after it's own population things would be better

How can people bash things which save lives i will never understand.

One could also argue that spending money on national defense saves lives.  Also, I'm pretty sure we would have to divert billions, not millions, to make any kind of effective national healthcare - possibly much much more.

Holy derailed thread batman! Lets get this puppy back on track.

There has finally been a recorded death in the US caused by this disease. The only thing is that the kid that died was mexican. I did not hear if he/she was born in the states or came across the border with the parents. This disease is starting to give a whole new meaning to the term "racist pigs".

Its called swine flu because its a strain of flu traditionally found in pigs. But it mutated and is being transmitted to humans.

Well I heard an interesting theory on the news today about how this whole thing may have gotten started.  Since it looks like the epicenter of this disease is Mexico, it's thought that it began with a pig there.  It most likely had a strain of the virus (H1N1) which can affect both swine and humans.  But the strain which is spreading now is believed to be a hybrid of the swine flu virus and the avian flu virus.  So it's speculated that perhaps the pig which was already infected with the swine virus injested some bird droppings which contained the avian virus and the two mutated into the current strain (sounds pretty wild).  Since sanitation proceedures in Mexico are pretty lax, it spread to the human population pretty easily.  In the US, farmers limit those who have access to pigs since viruses spread so easily and those who do are required to shower after they've come in contact with them.  None of those procedures are in place in Mexico.
