And here's my follow-up question, is it possible that my CPU, Mobo, RAM, etc would bottle-neck a newer gpu? Also the fact that my x9100xtx stopped handling WoW on max since patch 3.1 because the new shaders, is that just my gpu or could it be something else as well?

I thought games were almost purely gpu dependent, so why would my cpu, etc. affect the quality of a newer gpu when playing certain games?

 

Also I'm not really having any issues with my system outside of playing WoW, it's just the game that seems to be pulling things down.

Games are as much dependent on GPU as CPU if not more today. Your trouble is if you get a good GPU your CPU/Mobo/Ram are going to hold you back, you'll never get your moneys worth out of say a 4850. In short you'd be able to play WoW and your game will improve, but the rest of your system is holding back any new upgrades you get.

Instead of spending $120 on a new GPU, you can get a new Mobo, CPU and DDR2 RAM for the same price. The IGP on the motherboard (ATI 3200 - 3300 fopr 790 chipsets) will allow you to play WoW and probably overall you'll get a much better performance.

Try this....

Ctrl+Alt+Del Click on the perfomance tab on the windows task manager....Leave the manager open on you desk top and start your game. After playing your game for a few minutes  Alt+tab out of your game and look to see what % your CPU is running at. Then go from there.
