This is how I think a preview should sound. *hint*

Not, I didn't like the game, PvP was okay, but it's just another EQ clone... WTF garbage was that!?
Here's a little preview;
What World of Warcraft IS Today
Let's start with the first one. It's fun. It's a LOT of fun. Remember that magic you felt the first time you clicked with EverQuest? It's back, and it's back in huge buckets full. The first time you hear the snow crunch under your feet in Khaz Modan as your breath steams in the air, or the first time you ride a wyvern across the Barrens of Kalimdor or the first time an NPC shouts out your name, celebrating you saving the day at the end of a long quest, you'll feel that magic. WoW is not perfect, but man, it's really, really close. It's loyalty to friends that kept me still playing EQ, but many alpha players dropped EQ, DAoC or Final Fantasy like a bad habit and never looked back. Expect sleepless nights, calling in sick from work and lost weekends all over again.

Great link! Thanks Djin
Puts this sites half-hearted attempt at a preview to shame.
Agreed 100%
Although that preview is more then a half year old, it is the way previews should be written. Informative, non-partisan, and non-biased.
If you also noticed he had written a preview of every class, not just one.
I agree, this is the way a preview SHOULD be written. What was written here [even though it's HIS opinion] was totaly garbage.
Very poorly thought out...
OH BOOWHO! It doesn't have what I like, BOOWHO! It's crap... BOOWHO!
What will he do next?
Here's another good preview by the guy who runs betawatcher.com
Great reading

Quote: "I can safely say that no MMORPG has ever been this polished, and had this much depth before release. If I was SOE I would be scared to death of this game, after its launch fans won't settle for rush job shallow MMORPG's anymore."
I opted for the latter and I ended the stress test with the following:
Human Paladin, level 11
Night Elf Warrior, level 10
Troll Hunter, level 10
Undead Mage, level 10
Gnome Warlock, level 9
Human Priest, level 4
I feel I played enough to get a very solid feel for the game, but keep in mind that all of these opinions and insights are the result of only 10 days of play. I have seen games get much BETTER after those levels and I have seen games get much WORSE after those levels so this is by no means a definitive review of the World of Warcraft.
What did our reviewer have? One level 5? hahahaha
What will he do next?
I don't get it.. you didn't like the review because it didn't say WoW was the best game ever?

I didn't see anything wrong with either review. One was obviously written by a person who loved every second of it, and one was written by someone who didn't care for it much.
At least the review on this site didn't compare it to EQ in every other sentence.

No, but the reviewer here said it's nothing more then EQ.
Which isn't true. I'm not going to get into this argument again.
Just saying it should of been written a little better.
What will he do next?
When you compare the content of the preview on this site to the two previews linked in this thread, the one on this site is clearly lacking. So the guy doesn't like the game? Fine. A detailed explanation wouldn't be an unreasonable expectation, but it's obvious that it was written by someone who considers himself to be something of an afficionado of the MMORPG genre, and for whom World of Warcraft is simply beneath his contempt.
The paradox here is that both previews in this thread are also written by people with a long history of MMORPG gaming, but the thing I found most amusing was that our previewer criticized the lack of innovation in WoW then went on to say he prefers EQ2. You can go on till you're blue in the face about instanced dungeons etc, but if there's one thing EQ2 will definitely not be, it's innovative.
I just went back and reread it, just to refresh my memory, and while it's not a glowing review, he basically said it's a good game, so I don't see what all the noise is about, though, I certainly can understand people questioning his objectivity as a leader of an EQ2 guild, and someone in a position to attend an EQ2 VIP event. But I'm not seeing some massive conspiracy on the part of the mods to pimp EQ2 over WoW.
Though, I'm not sure it was front page worthy, to be honest. Now if he'd written a 5 part review of WoW as he did for the EQ2 VIP event, I could see making it front page news, but for what he wrote, I think he could have just made it a normal post. Would have avoided all the conspiracy bickering.
Shame it'd get deleted if I wrote a short review of EQ2, and how much of what he wrote applies to EQ2 as well, particularly the quests.
The only beef I had with this game (Well, i had more but here's my main beef) is that the game doesn't have much content. I got around pretty much half of the world in a week, and got a character to level 27 by doing quests like "Kill 10 <insert animal here>". What will happen in 2 months? I reach maximum level, and just make another character from scratch? In my oppinion (remember those 3 words) I think if your devoting alot of time into an MMO and expect to play for a LONG time, this might not be the game.
EverQuest II will rock.
I agree to an extent, though they said they will be adjusting the xp rate for launch, so things won't be quite as easy. Myself, I'd like to see a nice middle groung between WoW, and EQ2's level curve. WoW is a bit too fast, and EQ2's just feels like a nightmare grind, even at the teen levels.
It's not even the level curve for EQ2, so much as it is that the grind is just so... visible. If they hid it in engaging gameplay, and content, I'd be having fun, and not even notice the leveling, but I constantly find my eyes straying to the XP bar, wondering if I've made any progress yet. Or in the case of some groups I've been in, how far have I backslid.
It's stuff like that that makes me yearn for more skill based games. Particularly if they hid the exact percentage of your skill progression.
Levelling will be slower in retail and there'll be more content than in beta, with new content added monthly, as well as PvP battlegrounds, RvR (if you join an RvR server), raids with siege weapons, and hero classes to be added soon after the game goes gold.
This will be enough for me.
Are we allowed to talk about that? o.O
EverQuest II will rock.
Woooooooop! Wooooooooop! Someone mentioned an EQ2 level above 10!
DELETE THIS THREAD BEFORE THE WHOLE SITE BLOWS!!!!!!!
I don't think it's breaking the NDA as I understand it, but if one of the mods thinks so, I'm sure they'll let me know.
EQ2 Dev: The levels all go to eleven. Look, right across the board, eleven, eleven, eleven and...
MMO Player: Oh, I see. And most MMOs go up to ten?
EQ2 Dev: Exactly.
MMO Player: Does that mean it's better? Is it any better?
EQ2 Dev: Well, it's one better, isn't it? It's not ten. You see, most players, you know, will be leveling to ten. You're on level ten here, all the way up, all the way up, all the way up, you're on level ten on your character. Where can you go from there? Where?
MMO Player: I don't know.
EQ2 Dev: Nowhere. Exactly. What we do is, if we need that extra push over the cliff, you know what we do?
MMO Player: Level it up to eleven.
EQ2 Dev: Eleven. Exactly. One better.
MMO Player: Why don't you just make ten better and make ten be the top level and make that a little better?
EQ2 Dev: [Pause] Everquest 2 goes to eleven.
Glad there are some here with a sense of humor. Might have to share that with some of both games more diehard fans.
LMAO that was too funny!
