    Never had a problem with an internet connection... you do have CD2 in the installation drive?

    You need take off your firewall. Other people have had the same problem and that seemed to be the solution.

    yea the firewall in sp2 will block it, also make sure all your drivers are updated and such.

    how can i uninstall xp2?

    actually check for a little icon called windows Security alerts, looks like a red shield. Open it up and then click windows firewall, switch it to off. Will be alot easier than uninstalling sp2 :)

    Ok, goto control panel, should be an incon in the main window called 'Windows Firewall'. Will open up the same window I mentioned before, just click to off :).

    i'm not positive, but i've tried everything else, so i just thought that my automatic updates picked it up

    ah, hm. image Not sure what to tell you then bro, because it defenitly sounds like a firewall, but not sure what you got on your PC. If you want, you can try restoring your computer to just before you downloaded the XP updates. would be on your start tab-> accessories-> system tools-> system restore. If your not sure on the date you updated, just check the days on the calender that the pogram brings up.

    well thats the whole thing, i just re-formatted my comp and reinstalled windows xp, so it says under september 29, everything i reinstalled and it also says - Before windows service pack 2

    does that mean that it is installed on my comp?

    i can restore it to that exact point, should i do that?

    I wouldn't drop SP2 using system restore or any other means. The char generator works fine with SP2.

    SP2 *might* be causing you problems because of the firewall. If so:

    • Control Panel--> Windows Firewall
    • --> General : Make sure Don't Allow Exceptions is unchecked
    • --> Exceptions : Add the EQ2CC program (C:Program FilesSonyEverQuest IIEverQuest2CC.exe by default)

    Normally, if you allow exceptions, the Firewall will pop up a prompt when an application tries to communicate through a port and is being blocked. You can simply "Allow" it and the program is added automatically to the exception list.

    I have IE 6 sp2 and also run extensive Internet Protection software, including a Firewall, and had no problem what-so-ever in running the Starter Kit. He either has a hardware issue or has settings on his current system in conflict. The products I listed above do not inpeed connectivity. Good luck.

    start with Jimhus' advice if you still have problems. image
