OK, first off a couple of facts,
1) SOE added in the TCG, which has grown in popularity apparently
2) SOE add loot rewards to the SWG TCG
3) At every stage of the TCG's existence players have still had to pay $15 per month to play SWG
Ok, now then....... last week SOE let loose Free Realms, totally free to play, family friendly mmo with all the components you'd expect of an mainstream mmo, early indications are it's a great family game and very polished. So, onto my point...... SOE can fully develop from the ground up, host servers, community resources AND allow for ongoing development of the released FREE product with just one revenue stream.... can anyone guess? That's right... a TCG!
If I were still playing SWG, personally I'd feel like I just got double dicked.

Where did you see that the TCG for SWG is growing in popularity? I'd prefer to see some statistics that prove it, and not just SOE saying it was growing in popularity(SOE also said that the NGE was a massive success, the CU was here to stay, the NGE was the game they wished they had launched with, etc etc).
Frankly, SOE may say that the TCG is really popular, but I'm guessing what they really mean is that they make enough money off of the TCG to keep doing it.
Tried: LotR, CoH, AoC, WAR, Jumpgate Classic
Played: SWG, Guild Wars, WoW
Playing: Eve Online, Counter-strike
Loved: Star Wars Galaxies
Waiting for: Earthrise, Guild Wars 2, anything sandbox.
Free Realms has more revenue streams than just the card game. It also has an item shop, premium (meaning costs money) features (such as the ability to have pets), and an option to pay a monthly fee for a handful of those premium features.
I would figure the EQ 1&2 subscribers would feel even more screwed, since they have the item shop and card game on top of their subscription fee. SWG just has the card game.
I wouldn't doubt that the SWG card game generates more revenue than the monthly subscription fees do, which is why the developers spend their time making more and more items for the card game, while the game updates have been further reduced in scope.
Strange, there's no mention of an item mall on their site, only the card game and station cash is listed under the "shop" drop down.
Oh I see, you have to unlock areas by paying..... more soe fail

Station Cash is the name of SOE's item shop.

Yeah this ^
If you actually went to the SWG official forums, you would get a good sense of how many people actually hate the TCG.
I would say triple that, since Free Realms offers more content for free then SWG does if you pay $14.99. Thing is, it is a family type MMO and a bit whimsical. It's still gonna do better than SWG did though.
Does free realm have jedi? No it does not.
Think i just made my point.
Starwars Galaxies, An Empier Diveded, That's what it says on my box anyway.
They got fairies, same thing imho. xD

Actually, I wouldn't be surprised if the TCG is growing in popularity, because those who oppose it are voting with their feet.
actually it has 3 streams
1) the TCg
2) station cash
3) a membership for added content
streams 2 & 3 are present in all "Free to play games"
The TCG is something sony likes to add
They have a ton of them it's not surprising they added one to this one. Like anything else in these games it is optional. /shrug
I actually don't like this particular TCG as much as the legends of norath or the swg one. Its actually formatted a bit differently as far as the actual card game goes...
and for further accurate info
for the 5 bucks per month membership in free realms they give you one free booster pack of cards
for 15 bucks per month in the other two games I play they give you 5 free booster packs
for 0 dollars in free realms you get exactly 0 booster packs for free
not sure what "double clicking" your speaking of they are applying the same basic principles to their games as far as making money goes
Last I checked, SOE charges a subscription to both Everquest and Everquest II, and they both had Station Cash added to them.
The only reason TCG is doing well is because people want the kool items and can't get them anyother way and SOE arn't adding in kool items like these anyother way.
The TCG made me cancel my 2 accounts. You see, you can't have it both ways SOE, you either get a monthly subscription fee or you have an item mall.....NOT BOTH!!!!!
SOE has taken greed to a whole new level. Oh well they allowed me to save 30 some dollars a month.
I am now waiting for STO and the Bioware Star wars.
They got fairies, same thing imho. xD

lmfao......hahahahahahaha.....nice one.

yes and there is a point to this "last I checked" she spoke of the TCG last I checked it was and always has been available outside of the swg or eq/eq2 setting for 0 dollars except like in free realms you have to buy all the cards. The point is they are not straying from their model. The TCG can be played in the same way as it is in free realms
1) just buy booster packs and pay no membership (everyone always forgets this one)
2) pay a membership and get some boosters as well
just like the two others legends of norath and SWG
as for the cash shop last I checked you didnt' actually have to use them to play swg or eq2 or free realms. They are an added revenue stream is this not what the topic of the entire thing was? correct me if I'm wrong but we are speaking of "revenue streams" are we not?
not sure why you picked my post to take this from as after I posted this i noticed the second post in the thread said the same thing or am i just special? lol

Everyone needs a hobby I suppose. :+)
Good point, Troneas. The popularity numbers rise in weight when the disaffected leave. Working as intended.
Hobby? Hobbies would be be safer.
