Personally I like to base my opinions and expectations on solid facts, like the fact that WoW will have monthly content added as well as PvP and RvR, whereas EQ2 will have no incentive to level up other than to fight bigger monsters.
Each to their own, and yes - we'll see who's playing what in four months ::::
That rhetoric has been proven wrong time and time again. PvP has not been shown to lengthen playability in any MMOG. Because every MMOG that features PvP has emphasized it over PvE, which is where the staying power is.
I will be the first to admit that wasting another player is damn fun. But it's only fun so many times before boredom sets in (hey, maybe it's just not for me). Combine that with the casual nature of WoW, and you have yourself a game that will be real fun for most who play for about 2-3 months, tops.
You talk of these monthly updates. I hope they happen. I hope this game succeeds. The more MMOG competition, the better, I think. Maybe now with the competition, someone will actually live up to that promise of constant updates.
Originally posted by Voric Thx for all the responses. I was going to buy EQ2 only but then I saw some of these posts here and i realize that WOW will have lots to offer. I then changed my stance to deciding buying both. Then i thought aboud SWG, and I was hoping that SOE had cleaned up their act, but we don't know what EQ2 will be like at realease the the weeks following. So I changed my mind again I am going to buy WOW play it for 3-4 months and then revisit the EQ2 decision. I want to know how it will turn out. Will it be another SWG disaster (my opinion) If so i will stay with WOW if not i may buy the thing.
Thx for all your input.
Keep in mind that you posted this in a WoW forum. So the opinions here are skewed. I have no idea which will be better. I've only played WoW and even then I wasn't sold on the idea that it will be better than EQ2, which I haven't played but know people playing whose opinions I trust.
You have lots of time to research further, though.

You could even play WoW for free in open beta (probably at the end of this month) and if for whatever reason you don't like it, buy EQ2 and hope for the best.
Played EQ, Planetside and SWG when they were released. EQ was the best of the three at launch. SWG was a pure nightmare. Years ago I said I would not buy another game from Origin after the problems UO had at launch. Now I will not buy another SOE game after SWG. I would play solitaire first.

Firstly, regarding monthly updates, Blizzard is not a company known for disappointing their fans.
Secondly, you make it sound like WoW is somehow the underdog here... Let's see what google says.
Of course the stress test and lack of an NDA will have helped boost interest in WoW, which kind of makes you wonder why SOE didn't use the same strategy.

Also don't forget... it seems the EQ2 devs have decided NOT to have an Open Beta after all (meaning in order to play it, you either will have to wait to buy it OR get in through a closed beta but you wouldn't be able to share your opinions due to NDA).
Years ago I said I would not buy another game from Origin after the problems UO had at launch. Now I will not buy another SOE game after SWG. I would play solitaire first.
I totally agree with this. Sony has just stolen too much money from my pockets and after playing JTL (The SWG SE) they arent' really improving but just going downhill :. It's WoW for me, and only if EQ2 happens to get perfect 10's from all across the gaming scene may I considering buying and subscribing to that game.
After playign WoW for a month I truly have fallen in love with thsi game and once again Blizzard doesn't fail to dissappoint. If Diablo II and LoD, a mere RPG could capture my attention for over 3 years I think an MMO will capture and hold it for far longer... I can't wait for it to come out but am willing to wait as Blizzard (Unlike SOE) will delay their game as much as possible to deliver the perfect game... they are actually one of the few if not the only company where developers get a say in when it's released (once agian unlike SOE where money comes first and everything else later...).
LOL, someone sticking up for Blizzard who says they aren't about money first. If that's not the epitome of fanboyhood, I got no clue what is (EDIT: And he even said "love"... that's so sweet). You've seen it right here, folks.
Sony steals, while the saint Blizzard doesn't care about money. All I can say is LOL.

I think what he means, and this is just my opinion of course, is that he felt he was let down by EQ and does not want to give another dime to them. I can personally vouche for myself and say that I too had that feeling at one point. It wasn't to the extreme of stating they stole all my money, because I willingly gave it to them for the duration of my subscription.
I will say that I was dissapointed by SOE's Customer Support, or lack of. It is safe to say that people can make generalizations on companies for which they had dealt with. Now, to say Blizzard will not be the same, one can only hope and by the looks of their support for their beta testers, one can again only imagine that this is how it will stay during retail. Right now people, no one knows for sure how both companies will stack up next to each other. Let's not make a big mess out of who is right when no one really knows yet for sure.
When both games are released, and people can compare notes, than the arguements will be well worth the listen to. As for now, most people just don't care or are not as concerned at the time being.
Heh, after reading through numerous threads, what I think is funny is that people (not going to name names) make future forcasts of how a game will do when it hasn't even been released. Like, "Oh, I played that game in beta for a month, and I can already tell that people will be bored and leave after (number of months here).
Please, this is just like forcasting the weather.... It's 100% going to happen or not going to happen. A beta is not the final version of the game, plus all of the updates in the coming months after release. Wait for the game to be out for at least 3 months, then read up on the player base to start making these accusations..Opinions about how a game looks, stability, and other issues is understandable, but future forcasting player base before the game is released is just obserd.......
EQ2 sucks period. I was in the beta all of a week. Then I got bored and traded it for a MxO account. Everquest 2 is just a game with good graphics. It's a lie about being able to play it as a mmorpg. Unless you have atleast 2.8ghz 1024+ ddram or better and a Geforce FX 5990 ultra or a Radeon 9800 pro or better. anything else and you can forget playing this game with any fun from the grapics department. Also, the games isn'tthat fun even if your computer can handle the graphics.
*note: the computers I just descirbed would still lagg if you dont play on medium when going into capitol cities, and pvp battles.
If by some magical force EQ2 blows me away in open beta, then I might consider it, but since my experience of WoW during the stress test I havn't been able to find anything that sounds or looks better! Just WoW for me, mainly due to subscription fees, they add up, and playing games is time consuming, probably wouldnt have time for both! hehe
I, for one, will only buy WoW. I will even put off buying Halo 2, if WoW is even released this year.
--------------------------------------------- Stewie: What the deuce! (holds tongue depresser to nurse's throat) Back off. Don't come any closer or I'll cut her. Well, I...I'll give her a, uh, I'll give her a series of splinters, that, that could um, you know, become infected.

PvP battles? Are you sure you were playing EverQuest?

World of Warcraft : 877,000 pages
Everquest II : 302,000 pages
Believe me, this game will succeed.
Do you think that the volume of posts might be due to a lifted NDA and a somewhat open stress period? A bit more to talk about, wouldn't you think?

Gee... I wonder why...
WoW... (haha get it :P)
75 percent in favor of buying WoW only.. quit surprising, since this in on the WOW forum
