They're working on PvP (or so they say) and it won't be included at launch. I thought it would have been sweet if the 2 cities could attack one another. You know, being nighttime in Qeynos and a bunch of freeporters break through the sewers into the streets attacking the guards.
It's Good vs. Evil, I figure there HAS to be some sort of rivalry going on. Well, that's SOE for ya .
No there wont be pvp at release and possibly not for a year+ One of the devs said they were implenting a PvP system which no ones seen before put the plans to implent it within the first year look slim to none.
I really don't think having PvP aat launch as a big deal anyway. After all, usually that is a high level or mid level playstyle. And I doubt anyone would be at that level for while. One of the things about Everquest has and I'm sure EQ2 will have that makes me think that PvP isn't even needed is all the areas for high levels to hunt in that give new and different kinds of loot, Planes to explore and hunt in where the Gods would be, and large monsters that will can be raided. While using zones as the world setup, they can add new areas if they want without much of a change, just edit one to include a zone enterance then add the new area. I think the focus on PvE makes it so that people don't feel the need to PvP, especially if there are arenas and duals.
PvP would be nice but for a City vs. City setting I don't think PvP is even needed. Dark Age of Camelot's co-op server is an example of this. Have different outpost or bases in a certain area(Freeport citizens can access an area that has Qeynos outpost, etc and Qeynos citizens can access an area with Freeport outpost. You have to protect them from NPC armies. If they win, their guards take the place of Qeynos guards. If you take them, the guards get replaced by your own. Repeat.
Which side gains the most outpost in their area or takes a certain City item (similar to the items in DAoC), gains an extra bonus for their entiire side, even those that don't take part in the fighting. It would solve the City vs. City storyline but also be aimed to the PvE crowd. Maybe not keep things like that but maybe restart the zones once a month to keep things fresh and so the cities don't hold the outpost, keeps, etc the whole time. I'd rather see something like that done.
I don't mind too much of not having it in the beginning, as one of you said people won't be that high of a level yet. I know there will be a lot of things to have fun with that doesn't have to do with PvP. I think if they did something similar to how WoW is doing there PvP then that would be really cool.
In WoW, humans and orcs can not communicate to each other, and there are certain areas with PvP, and in those areas there are certain objectives like to take over a town or something. Good reasons to make people want to go in there. It also brings in the good vs evil factor.
I hope they do eventually add in PvP, because I find fighting against other people fun, as it is more challenging, and you know that it is a real person and not lines of code. Having it in controlled areas like say Castle sieges or raids on towns or even open battlefields that make it more group oriented are much better than just random high level people picking on newbs.
GamerGod - Good and Evil are major themes of EQ2. Is there any effort to increase the value of PvP in EQ2 or is this still a PvE game only, with the option to duel? Will there be a PvP server and/or Team PvP server at release or in the future?
EQ2 Dev Team - EverQuest II is a PvE game, and we currently have no plans for PvP servers. Our priority has always been to make a deep, rich player vs. environment experience.
PVP is never a big deal for me. I've played EQ1 for a few years now and the only time I PVPed was in Guild Battles in the Rathe Arena. EQ2 is going to be amazing and I don't think not having PVP at launch will hurt anything. If you want a PVP MMORPG then try out Guild Wars.

I wonder if the various devs even talk with each other? In Kunuo's VIP writeup they say they are working on some innovative never before seen pvp ideas, but it isn't going to be in at launch.
It would appear that the left hand doesn't know what the right hand is doing at SOE. Not that there was ever much doubt about that.
As a side note, I'm putting a voodoo hex on the next person that say 'if you want pvp, play Mortal Kombat'. If you can't figure out the difference between playing someone in a game of Mortal Kombat, and pvp in MMO's you really haven't been paying much attention to MMO's, or something.

Look at SWG. This becomes very apparent. The communication problems killed that game for me.

I think there's probably enough PvE quests to keep us all busy until the PvP comes out.
No, and No. if you want PvP go play Mortal Kombat.
Lying in bed, looking up at the stars, a single thought passed through my head. Where the fuc|{ is my roof.
