Just once again shows that the real hate on this site comes from the left.
I'm not a fan of Rush, but there is something seriously wrong when people can hate a man this much who merely speaks his mind on the radio.
Wherre did anyone say they "hated" Rush?
I find it interesting, Fisher, that on the two main issues that I've dealt with you on, you always scream that "the hate" comes from the other side of the fence. Must be how it's so easy for you to justify your intellectually bankrupt point of view, when you can brand the opposing side as just being "hateful."
EDIT: And by the way, Rush Limbaugh is not a man "who merely speaks his mind on the radio." He is the de facto head of conservative America, such as it is. Anyone who says he isn't is living in denial. He is also a serial liar.
No one said they hated anyone -- people don't have to say "I hate that man" to show they hate someone. The hate was evident in the posts and the discussion.
Hate definitely comes from both sides of the fence, but I see afr more from the left on these forums.
Both sides say and of things that are in bad taste, but I find there is more hate from left to right than from right to left -- at least among folks here. Just my personal observation.
There is no head of the Republican party or the conservative movement. If dudes like Limbaugh are really calling any shots, it's only because the party is in complete disarray.
personally I think it's kinda like that scene in Apocalypse Now when martin sheen comes upon the guys who have been fighting so hard and so many are dead and he asks the guy..who's in charge here?
the dude turns to him and says, "you are.
That's how Limbaugh is in charge. The party is bankrupt of ideas. If they fine their core again in libertarian principles of limited government, and can make it stcik, there is hope. I doubt it though. They truly suck quite deeply.

I would agree maybe, if this happened all of a sudden.
Rush had conservatives kowtowing to him long before they "fell apart" within the Republican party along with some others. The idea that everyone can now see the 21% Club in disarray is the result of him and the Christian right pulling strings behind the scenes for years since the Reagan days. Rush, Robertson, Hagee, Ralph Reed, and a few others led the Republicans by silent committee.
The problem is they ran out of legitimate faces that had resumes that was new and fresh to carry the water. When all the scandals of some Christian leaders broke, they started losing ground. Rush kept right on yakking with a big audience. When the Bush administration took over, the only one still visible outside of Washington anymore was Rush, and he kept right on yakking. Republican conservatives flocked to him because who else could they turn to? McCain? Not crazy enough. Romney? Nah, he's a Mormon and Christians don't like that. Guiliani? Are you kidding me?
Rush is the Last Man Standing and as such, he's the leader.
I think Fisher has a point that the Republican party is completely bereft of leaders and ideas at this point -- they are essentially being the party of "no," seeking ways to combat Obama's health care plans and Supreme Court nominee even though neither have been determined, at least publicly -- but I think that is WHY Rush has such a loud voice.
He's always been a player. Republican politicians have long been terrified to cross him. Now, they can't even dismiss him without having to backtrack days later.
He is THE voice of the 21% Club (his disciples: Hannity, Coulter, Ingraham, et al don't carry the clout he does).
EDIT: BTW, Pop, I'm stealing "21% Club." And no, you may not have royalties. If you hound me for them, I'll sic Rush on you.
So I started to walk into the water. I won't lie to you boys...I was terrified. But I pressed on, and as I made my way past the breakers, a strange calm came over me. I don't know if it was divine intervention or the kinship of all living things, but I tell you, Jerry, at that moment ... I was a marine biologist.
The better question is why are democrats so afraid of him? High ranking Democrats in Washington whine about him by name all the time. If he's so irrelevant who cares what he has to say?
Its ok to have someone that disagrees with Democrats. He criticizes Republicans too. If the media in general wasn't slanted so far to the left he wouldn't even have a job.

I don't hate him by any means. I do greatly dislike him. For these reasons.
He called American troops who are against the war cowards.
He claims that Michael J Fox is trumping up his symptoms to get support.
Those are both para-phrased. Here are some direct quotes as to why I dislike him.
"I mean, let’s face it, we didn’t have slavery in this country for over 100 years because it was a bad thing. Quite the opposite: slavery built the South. I’m not saying we should bring it back; I’m just saying it had its merits. For one thing, the streets were safer after dark."
"You know who deserves a posthumous Medal of Honor? James Earl Ray [the confessed assassin of Martin Luther King]. We miss you, James. Godspeed. "
"Look, let me put it to you this way: the NFL all too often looks like a game between the Bloods and the Crips without any weapons. There, I said it."
Again I don't hate him, I don't hate anyone. He has his right to free speech, and I have the right to think what he says is idiotic and inflammatory. I might hate him if I thought he believed in half of what he says, but he doesn't. He's a shock jock. Same as Howard Stern.
I'm also not a Democrat. I voted in the Republican primary for a guy who I wanted to win the whole thing. He didn't win the primary so I ended up voting for Obama in the election.
"Afraid" of him? Hardly. But when he spouts off downright lies to warp the minds of his idiotic listeners, they have every right to call him on it.
And he criticizes Republicans for not being reactionary enough.
This isn't about him "disagreeing with Democrats." It's about him being a demagogue, a serial liar and a first-class asshole.

Well you better get over it because as long as free speech exists and we have idiots in office, people like him will have a voice.

No need to "get over it." Just gotta keep debunking all the garbage that spews from that liar's vicodin hole and his dittoheads regurgitate everywhere like it's gospel.

Do you ever listen to Rush? Or just get these quotes off left wing sites? You do know Rush talks for 3 hours? If he is talking about something for 3 hours and you take one line out of it. than that is taking it out of context. I would like to see a link to the audio or trasnscript of these because I say they are BS. He also has been derided for wishing for Obama to fail and EVERYONE, left and right, knew what he was talking about but hey, if the left can get some milage out of it, they will.
I know Rush and asked him about these supposed quotes and here is his reply on each one:
“I mean, let’s face it, we didn’t have slavery in this country for over 100 years because it was a bad thing. Quite the opposite: slavery built the South. I’m not saying we should bring it back; I’m just saying it had its merits. For one thing, the streets were safer after dark.”

“You know who deserves a posthumous Medal of Honor? James Earl Ray [the confessed assassin of Martin Luther King]. We miss you, James. Godspeed.”

“Have you ever noticed how all composite pictures of wanted criminals resemble Jesse Jackson?”
Did say it on TV show, forget context?
“Look, let me put it to you this way: the NFL all too often looks like a game between the Bloods and the Crips without any weapons. There, I said it.”
Said it after New England San Diego playoff game in 2008
“The NAACP should have riot rehearsal. They should get a liquor store and practice robberies.”
Said after Spike Lee wanted all black kids out of school to watch his movie Malcolm X and learn their history
“Take that bone out of your nose and call me back (to an African American female caller)”
Totally out of context. Told story of how management at KUDL KC wanted me to be insult host....I told current audience how much I hated it....was given this line by management to use....related in in a story about how insult radio was NOT my cup of tea and how I knew I had no future doing it.

Nope. It is the only site that had anything besides quotes.
edit.. you would think with all the leftest watchdogs of Rush, they would be able to supply links to the transcripts. Aslo..all these "Rush zombies" never heard the quotes either.

Thanks for confirming what everyone already knew. He's a closet racist who has trouble keeping the door shut.
Yeah he's racist just like Imus. Right? This is like watching the special olympics...
I don't care what kind of half-assed justifications he came up with for his comments. All they do is prove that he's too much of a coward to stand by what he says.

There is no proof the first two quotes were made-up.
Do I listen to Rush? What do you think? Yes, I know alot about him, because thankfully there are watchdog organizations who listen to the tripe that comes out of his mouth so I don't have to.

Chieftan. Or did you mean to spell that Chieftain? Special Olympics indeed.
Vemoi. What you said basically sounds like this "Ok. So yea he said most of that stuff but some guy said that he knew Rush and Rush said he didn't say two of those things. He said the other stuff but it's out of context". That about right? What you're saying is he was accurately quoted on 8 out of ten things, but some random guy said he didn't say two of them so obviously that random guy was telling the truth. Doesn't make sense man.
I mean come on man. He said, and yes I heard this for myself, the entire rant, that Obama was elected due to affirmative action. Give me a break, how is there no hint of racism in that? I'm not exactly a huge Obama fan, but he won the election because he got more votes. That's how it normally goes (most of the time at least).

No I said there was no link to any audio or transcript so see what Ruch was talking about. I posted the only relevant thing I found and didn't cherry-pick it. Then was dimissed because it was a "right-wing" site. Frankly, I don't believe anything the left says about Ruch because they have a long history of twisting his words around. I don't listen to Rush except for 10 minute ride to work but, I have heard Olberman completely mangle what Dennis Prager and Medved have said. People have no idea because they never listen to the shows and just sit there like bobble-heads when Olberman talks.
I'm sure Rush would run for free cheeseburgers if offered. Because he'd probably get himself hurt in the process and get himself a new painkiller prescription.
This website is a safe haven for trolls and haters. I'm done with this pathetic site.

I'm sure you're right about Olbermann. I couldn't vouche myself, but I have watched his show and it's just as slanted as anything on Fox. I don't watch any of the 3 big new networks in America, they are all trash. Any one of them is just as bad as the next.
He says he'd rather back broadcaster in the battle over future of the GOP
The Associated Press
updated 2:10 p.m. ET May 10, 2009
WASHINGTON - Dick Cheney made clear Sunday he'd rather follow firebrand broadcaster Rush Limbaugh than former Joint Chiefs chairman Colin Powell into political battle over the future of the Republican Party. Even as Cheney embraced efforts to expand the party by ex-Govs. Jeb Bush of Florida and Mitt Romney of Massachusetts and the House's No. 2 Republican, Virginia Rep. Eric Cantor, the former vice president appeared to write his one-time colleague Powell out of the GOP.
Asked about recent verbal broadsides between Limbaugh and Powell, Cheney said, "If I had to choose in terms of being a Republican, I'd go with Rush Limbaugh. My take on it was Colin had already left the party. I didn't know he was still a Republican."
'Not as right as others would like'
Powell, who was secretary of state under President George W. Bush and held the nation's top military post under President George H.W. Bush, endorsed Democrat Barack Obama for president last year. Nonetheless, since the election he has described himself as a Republican and a right-of-center conservative, though "not as right as others would like."
Cheney, citing Powell's backing of Obama over Republican nominee John McCain, said, "I assumed that that is some indication of his loyalty and his interests."
Cheney's remarks on CBS' "Face the Nation" were the latest step in his slow-motion estrangement from Powell since the two worked closely together to manage the Persian Gulf war in 1991 — Powell as the Army general who was chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and Cheney as defense secretary for the elder Bush.
Under the younger Bush, Powell initially backed action against Iraq's Saddam Hussein and delivered a famous U.N. speech laying out the U.S. case. But Powell and Cheney increasingly parted ways over the Bush administration's policies on the war and terrorism, with Cheney usually prevailing. Powell left the administration after Bush's first term.
Wading into the debate over the GOP's future, Cheney called efforts by George W. Bush's brother Jeb, along with Cantor and Romney, as "a good thing to do," but set a limit on how far the party should go.
"The suggestion our Democratic friends always make is somehow if you Republicans were just more like Democrats, you'd win elections," Cheney said. "Well, I don't buy that. We win elections when we have good solid conservative principles to run upon."
More government, not less
Powell has argued the Republican Party needs to move toward the center and reach out to growing black, Hispanic and Asian communities, but instead has been shrinking because it hasn't changed as the country changed in the face of economic distress. "Americans are looking for more government in their life, not less," Powell said last week.
For months, Powell has urged the party to turn away from the acid-tongued Limbaugh. "I think what Rush does as an entertainer diminishes the party and intrudes or inserts into our public life a kind of nastiness that we would be better to do without," Powell said.
"Colin Powell is just another liberal," Limbaugh retorted. "What Colin Powell needs to do is close the loop and become a Democrat." Limbaugh said Powell is "just mad at me because I'm the one person in the country that had the guts to explain his endorsement of Obama. It was purely and solely based on race." Both Powell and Obama are black.
On other topics on the CBS interview, Cheney:
-said transferring suspected terrorists from the military prison at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, to the United States would be a bad idea that would enlarge their legal rights. Obama's national security adviser, retired Marine Gen. James Jones, told ABC's "This Week" the White House isn't going to do that if it would make Americans less safe.
-reiterated his belief the U.S. has become more vulnerable to a potential terrorist attack since the Obama administration renounced harsh interrogation tactics such as waterboarding, which simulates drowning, that Cheney said provided good intelligence. Jones said he didn't believe the nation was at greater risk and that even some in the Bush administration disagreed with Cheney on that score.
-renewed his call for the administration to release two CIA memos he said list successes derived from those interrogations, including "attack planning that was under way and how it was stopped." The Obama administration is reviewing Cheney's request. Obama has said the memos are not so clear-cut and do not address whether the information could have been obtained without such methods.
-said he has been speaking out about the Obama administration although George W. Bush remains silent, because if he didn't, "then the critics have free run, and there isn't anybody there on the other side to tell the truth."
"If we don't attack them, they will attack us first. So we'd better retaliate before they have a chance to strike"

He says he'd rather back broadcaster in the battle over future of the GOP The Associated Press updated 2:10 p.m.
This certainly doesn't surprise me.
Cheney has had a hard on for Powell since Powell called Cheney's plan horseshit and constantly advised Bush against the Iraq war. Cheney was always pushing for it despite numerous mistakes. Powell simply caved at the end due to Republican brand loyalty.
Rush is smart to pick a fight against anyone who appears to be at odds with the 21% Club's ideology because it's an easy target. If you remember, when Powell came out and announced he was voting for Obama during the election, that was BIG news and the 21% Club has never forgiven him. It was one of Obama's first big political votes publicly by anyone saying he was the best qualified, and I believe he was actually the first Republican brave enough to say it before voting day. Plenty said after but not many during; in fact, Powell and Micheal Smerconish were the only two Republicans I remember offhand. Smerconish is a very honorable journalist and host.. one of the few 21%ers I actually can stomach.
It's no wonder why they both took shots at Powell. This is why the 21% Club is failing. They cannot fathom that someone can be a Republican and still vote their conscience on which candidate THEY personally feel is best, regardless of party. To them and most of their narrow minded believers, if you say you are a Republican, then that means you have to vote for EVERY SINGLE Republican, no matter how stupid or unqualified they are. You must pledge blind and unconditional loyalty. These guys are about as tolerant as the Catholic church towards its parishioners on divorce and gays... anyone believing or doing that is kaput.
This fool Cheney is on the microphone so much lately, because he knows there is no one living who will stand up and say he did a good job while in office, so doing the equivalent of bumping his own thread constantly for a "legacy", lol. Very sad to watch. You couldn't get two words out of him while he was in office on anything, but now.. he's plastered all over the television trying to save his image.
Rush is intelligent to know that he doesn't have to actually run for anything. He can sit in that sweaty leather chair and point fingers at everyone else for not running or running, while never putting his money where his mouth is. The only thing he's put where his mouth was in recent years has been Oxycontin.

Limbaugh.

"TO MICHAEL!"

Did a search and there is nothing but these same quotes all over the web. I did run accross this though. http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/2183392/posts

Godspeed.”
NEVER SAID IT.

Well, looks like Rush has the backing of the former VP, I know, shocker right?
Cheney backs Limbaugh over Powell
"TO MICHAEL!"
