Why does sony not promote EQ2?

I just left WAR about a month ago.Was looking for a new mmo.Now i had played eq many many years ago.So i thought id give EQ2 a shot.All i can say is wow.Not the game WOW .This game has blown me away.I wish i would have played this years ago.So i was wandering why does Sony not promote there great game.With all the hype of WAR and the domination of WOW.This game beats them both hands down.Sony should market this better.Or is it just me?

SOE have done very little marketing for their game the last few years. Maybe the problem in this case is that at launch EQ2 was a bugg ridden pile of crap while now it is a very good MMO.
I like EQ2 but SOE marketing kinda stinks heh

Because the whole graphics engine runs on the CPU rather than the GPU, until they fix that forget about marketing. Once they get the shadows and alot of the bells and whistles moved over to the graphics card the game will be great. I am not resubbing until they do (which may take a while).

How many expansion have there been for EQ2
Now ask yourself how many updates has Vanguard had.
VG is a better game IMO than EQ2 and i have played the latter on and off since it was released along side WOW or around that time.
If any game is getting no promotion from SOE then it's VG but that's because SOE know it's a better game and don't want the EQ2 player base to switch.
EQ2 should of been how VG is today instead they gave us an instanced world which feels like a box.
Don't take my word for it though...

It might well be due to the fact that EQ2 is a mature game and SOE has other games, which they hope will supplant EQ2 as their cash cow, to spend promotion money on.
SOE is anxious to get EQ2 players into their "end game" these days and that has been where most of the development time and money has gone into in the last year or so. The last expansion and the re-vamping of old higher-level zones also point to this fact. SOE has hinted, as I recall, about a new FRPMMO that might be in the works and that has nothing what so ever to do with Everquest.
That being said, should the next expansion this year be of fine quality and add new races, new starting zone(s) and other such content, it could help revive the franchise for another few years.
But to be truthful, while it is still one of the best FRPMMOs on the market, the glory days of EQ2 are well behind it. Putting aside the arrogant and downright stupid decisions of management in the last few years, the fact that EQ2 is still a great game is testament to the talents of those who work directly with and on it.

Fact: If SOE wasn't such idiots and realized what they held in thier hands and actually developed/marketed/advertised the game half as well as Blizzard , I guarantee Vanguard would easily top World of Warcraft in subs as well as gameplay. After wasting almost 4 years on WOW and getting bored I tried Vanguard and was simply stunned that it didn't have more people playing it and most of my real life wow friends hadn't even heard of it. The few friends I did manage to try it with me were also amazed at it as well. And guess what, all 6 of them no longer plays WOW after seeing Vanguard. We didn't know a game like this even existed. Shame on SOE for being so blind. If SOE ever fucks this up I will be done with MMO's for good!

Of course you need a pretty good computer to play Vanguard . It won't run on a toaster like WOW will!

But in the end, SOE has killed their games; no one else is to blame. Out of all the MMO companies, SOE had the chance to be the King of MMO companies, but they are only the Fool…………..

I think it is a bit misinformed to say that soe has not marketed eq2. While it may not be heavily marketed today, there has been a lot of pushes to advertise the game from magazine ads, web site promos and banners, etc over the years. There may not be television ads, but eq2 has had a fair share of advertising. Soe is fairly good at marketing imho.
However advertising doesn't simply equal success and I think that is the reason why soe doesn't put much effort into advertising the game. The advertising just did not pay off with new subscribers. If advertising was working I think soe is smart enough to understand that and do a little advertising.
