Just tell him the answer instead of guiding him to another place. Yes asassin and rangers can use stealth. It is what it says, when in stealth you cant be seen and you can't be touched. Great for sneaking around people or even most monsters. It also adds with some skills for suprise attacks with aggrro enemies and players. Sneak behind them and use a skill.
I hope the same way decreases its cooldown too. That was my biggest beef when playing the CB. They treated stealth like a buff, and me being the rogue/assassin type when playing mmo's didn't like that one bit. Having to right click the buff instead of just pushing the hotkey again to turn it off when I was done using it, and the fact that it took forever for the cooldown to transpire for it to be re-used again, just turned me off the class almost entirely. Only reason I kept playing my scout was because I still had dual wielding, which has always been my preferred style of play. With stealth being the way it was though, I hardly ever used it, and that really bugged the crap out of me lol. I was hoping for the same type of stealth most other games used, and don't particularly care for aions approach to it. If they decide to keep it the way it is, I'll just have to roll warrior, and go gladiator I guess.
I actually like their approach to Stealth. It's not as overpowering, you had too much freedom with the skill in games such as WoW which treated it as a "Mode" and had a short reuse time. I liked the idea in WoW where you had your own "Stealth hotkey bar". I wish that had carried over into Aion. I've never liked the way stealth was implemented, but in Aion I'm actually starting to like it. Before it always seemed too cheap and it forced other classes to have skills to detect it to balance it. If you couldn't keep a rogue out of stealth or had a stealth detection ability, you would be screwed.
Well I think if they at least shortened the cooldown timer the fact that it's a timed ability, would be of a lessened frustration for me, but as it stands, it's just too unwieldy for me. *shrugs* Maybe I'm just spoiled lol. I'll be giving it a second go once the NA version comes out, and I'll see where it's at then. I hope I can get around it, cuz using stealth is one of my favorite mmo concepts.
I like their approach to stealth this actually benefits assassins and other stealth users when you can be permanently stealth mode it poses a bit of a balance issue and the class has to suffer a bit more because lets face it, you can be "invisible" forever.
I'm sure there are many ways to counter stealth with it being a mode, instead of a buff, but I would have to agree that WoW's way of handling stealth, wouldn't work at all in Aion. They'd have to come up with a different concept I think. This of course is all just my opinion on stealth, I am happy you guys find it to be fine. *shrugs* I think the problem with me and their stealth is just the cool down, not the fact that it's on a timer. If they just shortened it by perhaps 20-40 seconds(can't remember been a while since CB but it was something like 30 seconds to a minute cooldown I think) depending on the actual cooldown time. I could handle a 10-15 second cooldown. Whatever they choose, I'll still probably make a scout, in the very least as an alt, since I've always played a scout/roge type class. It's just that darn cooldown lol, makes it hard for me to be as sneaky as I want. They could perhaps implimant two types of stealth for pve and pvp. Have a tool tip that gives the stats of stealth normally, and then with a dash or something seperating it, and giving its changes to pvp combat(i.e. put how stealth is normally handled in games like perhaps wow for instance, and then put a - and then put "this ability as a 40 second timer and 20 second cooldown while in the abyss) I don't know if there is world pvp, or just in the abyss, but if all pvp takes place in the abyss that should work. If there's world pvp, then that probably won't work, and I'd have to come up with something else.>< If anyone who also thinks the stealth function could use a little tweaking by all means, ideas!

RF Online (Codemasters days... not CCR today) handled stealth nicely. Namely if you picked a ranger class for ACC and only if you picked the sub-class at a certain level to do it. The only way you could detect a stealthed player in RF was if you were lucky enough to have found rare earings that had Detect 1 or 2 and so forth. Then that player if they got close to someone who was wearing the detect ring, they would appear like semi-transparent ghosts. People with detect rings became pivotal in RvR raiding (I mean Race vs Race raiding).
Eventhough the artstyle of Aion reminds me of Lineage, I'm considering trying this one out.
Does anyone else find it amusing that the animation for entering stealth is to shout, wave your weapons in the air like a crazy person, then shout again even louder?

Maybe depends on what voice thing you use. Mines don't scream loud at all.
see Obama catching fishes, flying to the sky or even fighting Bush in Aion? Look at this! I found this footage on YouTube (See HD version Obama plays Aion) upload by nsmcho. With the fabulous Character Customization system, a story has been created, which was about Hero Obama and his life in Aion. If Obama quit the President, he must be playing Aion!

Yes you can stealth, but it is timed.
At the beginning you can stealth for about 40sec, but there are ways to increase the time.

If stealth wasn't treated as a buff instead of a mode then you would be pretty much gangked a lot in Abyss.

The "Hide" buff duration is random, with a max of 45 seconds iirc... I know it only lasted 30 second one time I used it
The cooldown for the ability is 1 minute, but starts the second you use the ability.
If you wait to attack near the end of the buff, you have to wait all of like 15-30 seconds, before you can use ability again.
I like it this way, pervents it from being abused, like it does in WoW.
Ranger's also have the ability to transform. Into bushes and other such inanimate objects.
Does anyone else find it amusing that the animation for entering stealth is to shout, wave your weapons in the air like a crazy person, then shout again even louder?
