How is the trial going Jefaw?

In case my question got lost in a wall of rant in the other thread. Out of interest how are you finding the trial Jefaw?

I'd like to hear too. I rarely read ranting anymore, as it's always the same and I already made my point of view reading all that doom posts, so yup, it would get lost in the wall of text.

What is more relevant to me is how newcomers experience the game now. And if they make it to the cap, it's even more interesting to hear what they think about the game, what would they like to change, and what they love in DDO.

    Hi All,

I am not Jefall.  I did just complete the trial of the game and have subscribed as well.  While the graphics are a bit dated and clunky ( why the hell are drops still falling behind geometry!! ) I found the dungeon crawls to be very refreshing.  Nice to see something different and where a rogue is more than a DPS.

Spell casting is really hard!!  To be a Wizard or Cleric or Sorc you have to pay close attention to your spell book and where your recharge points are.

Lots of customization in the character as far as additional skill enhancements and feats.  Have not tried a fully customizeable character seet yet.  Afraid I would gimp em out too bad.

Although it is not how I would picture a perfect implementation of a DnD game.  I do get the feeling when playing it that it is a DnD game.  Especially solo.  I have not played in any groups yet.  Not a big fan of PUG's.  I also have not used the voice comm either so, that may be something I try out soon.

It is surprisingly different than most games out and it really makes you think through the quests.  I feel they over did it a bit with the instancing but, I am not so much against it now as opposed to when I first tried it at release.

If you're not a fan of PUG's NovaKayne a good guild goes a long, long way to enjoying DDO. I was in one when I played DDO that took the dungeons real slow and worked with me rather than zipping through the dungeons at 100 miles an hour. Find a good guild that fits your playstyle and the game will be 100x better in my opinion. I would solo on the nights I did not have a lot of time to play but on the weekends I did a lot of grouping.

I agree spellcasting is really trickey to play but if you want a good challenge in the game they are worth considering, in my opinion.

Like I said, I did subscribe after the trial.  :)

I agree on the Guild thing.  I figured it might be better later on after I get to Stormreach first.  Still trying to determine if the Rogue will be my main or not.  It is the only one I have completed the whole island quests solo with so far.

Did I mention that I really like the way they implemented the rogue in this game???  I like that I can skipp past an encounter if I was stealthed or find and remove traps or find secret doors easier.  I just wish there were more options in the solo modes to get around or finish the quests without combat.  Almost all of them so far have had some combat needed to complete.

I liked that when I did the end of the Kronos Island quests, I had found a cloak of featherfall and one of shadows.  I was able to use the featherfall in the last quest ( the one with the dragon ) to basically jump from the top level down to the bottom and not be penalized for this.  It really had a DnD feel of thinking outside the box and not having to run on rails down a ramp defeating scripted encounters until I got to the bottom and go up the other side.

So you only completed Korthos to date?  It's ok, but let me tell you something. What you saw isn't any indication of the fun you have before you. Like Necropolis, like Delera's, like Tangleroot Gorge or many other places, even Catacombs in Marketplace .

Just go there and see it, I bet you'll be amazed how great this game is. Oh, did I mention Three Barrel Cove quests? They're 10x better than whole Korthos .

Dungeons are custom, and so are explorable areas. The fact that you see some scripted paths etc. doesn't mean you'll see it in other quests. But I won't spoil you anything, just go further and enjoy, hehe.

ayup.  Still a major n00b there Sarr.  I am looking forward ot expeeriencing more...  would like to find others who are into it in more of an RP way than min/max xp'ers.  Unfortunately you do not find that in many MMO's any longer.

To be honest, I am fairly surprised that I am enjoying the game that much.  I was not a big fan of it during beta and release.  It does remind me a lot of LoTRo.  The only difference being LoTRo has more open areas for combat and not all scripted areas like I have seen ( so far! ) in DDO.  That being said, it does not make them any better than DDO.

I am also not a big fan of the grapfx in here.  My Fighter/Thief is wearing studded leather and it looks like he has a leotard on.  Would be nice to see a little more attention to that kind of stuff.  Otside of that, you just cannot beat the combat or skillsets here.

    Good to hear : ).

About the armors - they get drastically better around level 4 and up. It's just a "from zero to hero" game in terms of inventory, but Mod 9 release notes say there will be more new items - so maybe some new looks for lower level outfits too.

About those RP / Xp / Powergamer players. There's a tip that works almost all the time : ). Just create "Looking for Members" through your panel and write "no rush", "slow", "newcomer", "firsttimer", etc in it. Or join groups that have something similar written (in DDO EU there's a guilad "Friends of Nice and Slow" which prefer this type of gameplay).

I'm not a newbie anymore (though I haven't capped any of my characters to date) but I always, and I mean always prefer to play the way you explained and I play this way without any problems.

Additionally, don't be afraid to say you're a firstimer in a random group. People often slow down for you. And it's always better to make it clear from the start - I always say I'm a firstimer in a dungeon I do for the first time. And it works .

Well, I must say that I was in sume PUG's the other day and not too impressed.  People zurging around like it was a FA and see who could kill/be killed the fastest.

There was one where a person was actually trying to lead and he just quit the group when no one listened.  Does not bode well in my book for this.  Most of the groups were just intent upon running the same quests through elite and farming gear.  It was rather boring and really ruins what could be a good game.  Still, this is more of a design issue IMO than a player issue.

I did join a guild called Phoenix Rising.  Nice group so far.  Not to many my level on but, they are still good peeps based on the ones I have talked too and discussed the game with.

Having a hard time deciding if I am going to keep up the SUB or not at this point.
