Ok I have read one of the funniest things in the offical forums. The testers that are testing are now asking that when the game goes live that they one....get to keep items...two....they want to be able to keep there characters including the level 60....and three they want to keep there names and have it so no one else can have that name. Now I have a serious problem with this. One you are not being payed to be a tester nor are you paying to test so you should get no special treatment for testing. Two why would you get to keep a lvl 60 toon so that you can turn around and put your account on ebay the first day so that not only do you get to test for free....some for 8-10 months some longer but now you want to be able to just turn around and flip the account for money. Give me a break. Third why would someone get to keep items or chacters in a game that you have tested for and possibly used bugs to get items. Everyone should be on a level playing field to get items including using bugs so there is no way that you as a tester should get to keep items. Lastly for the names why should someone who has not been able to test because of not being choosen or signing up be at a disadvantage for chosing a name. If you want to do this it should be done like City of Heroes did when they started up letting people register names in open beta on a name server where everyone has the same chance of accessing it.

After Lineage 2, I will never again play a mmrpg where there is no wipe at the end of beta. Everyone on retail day should be equal.

Played: Asheron's Call 1, Dark Age of Camelot, Earth & Beyond, Star Wars Galaxies
Tested: Asheron's Call 1, Asheron's Call 2, Dark Age of Camelot, Eve Online, Lineage 2, Risk Your Life, Saga of Ryzom, World of Warcraft
Uninstalled ASAP: MU Online, Knight Online, Rubies of Eventide, Priston Tales, Star Sonata, DarkSpace
That is a bunch of BS. All closed beta chars should be wiped. I do not minded if they get the chance to reserve ONE char name as a reward for testing. I have never seen a game that let people keep their closed beta accounts.

My question is has Blizzard said yes to any of these demands? If yes then you have a point, that's screwed.
If not, then it's just the same as every other beta. There are people asking the same thing in EQ2 beta. Same with Wish. Saga of Ryzom. Every other game.
The people asking for it are the freeloaders there to play the game for free, not test it. The people there to test the game know their characters will be deleted when beta is over, and are ok with that.
What he said...
Im sorry but this is just pissing me off to no end. People who actually wat to test and help Blizzard put out the best product possible are sitting here unable to play.. While the little kids and immature fools are allowed to whine and cry about every little thing that they dont like that goes on in WOW beta.. Hell this fools even complain about the Beta severs being down, wtf type of crap is that..

You see, every mammal on this planet instinctively develops a natural equilibrium with their surrounding environment, but you humans do not. You spread to an area, and you multiply, and you multiply, until every natural resource is consumed. The only way you can survive is to spread to another area. There is another organism on this planet that follows the same pattern. Do you know what it is? A virus. Human beings are a disease, a cancer of this planet.-Mr.Smith
It´s 100% unfair to let the beta testers keep characters and names... they already have the advantage of knowing a lot more about the game then anyone else... other then that advantage everyone should be equal and have the same chances of getting the character name they want...
You guys r so weak i was in Lineage II beta closed and open and i was really angry cuz i lost my closed char when open began now i wish to bet for 100k that if each of u where in the beta u would ask to keep ur chars so dont f*cking cry like babies the betatesters took the time for beta testing and most of them were prob serious en hell complain about what sux about the beta is a good thing cuz blizzard will know whats f*cked about the game and try and resolve it
and btw if u say they go PvP then sow what im not going to PvP at the beginning of a beta so weak
srry u werent invited in but neither am i but i dont f*cking care if the get to keep there chars im glad for them
I would gladly have taken the time to play in closed beta with the knowledge that I would loose my chars and have to compete for the char names again... ..and I would be serious also.
In my oppinion your the weak one, not wanting to be fair....

I personally think that no matter what a person should be testing the game not playing it for the future when you enter into a beta. I brought this up as I was reading the blizzard forums and the beta testers are serious about keeping everything. I alpha, beta'd UO and I also made friends with a gm and holy **** did he hook me up. Now let me think since he maxed out my stats and my skills (which players are doing playing in the beta) and he gave me some rare weapons and binded stuff to my toon I would be able to basically kill anything and not loose anything. Now had they let me go into live with this I guarantee I would have had a castle in about 2 days without cheating the system. Actually I probably could have had 10 in about 2 days. I don't think this is at all correct I tested to test not played to play for free. The only weak one I see here is you because of your crying over Lineage II. Suck it up as I would never ask to keep anything in any beta so that it would be a lot more fun for everyone to start anew.
I've beta tested several games both open and closed beta. I have never once requested to keep anything from the account or chars passed on to retail. It's beta, I'm there to submit and errors or bugs I may find along the way.
I prefer to start retail as a level 1 char, and enjoy the game all over again. It is you Levithan7, who seems like the whiny pansy-assed cry baby here.
Actually no... I am in WoW Beta and it never crossed my mine to ask whether I can keep my charcter. Its Beta!!!! That means you test, improve the game for release date, and start over with everyone else come retail release. I am suprised that people in this world are suprised that this happens in Betas???? Honestly, if Blizzard said that all Beta people keep everything, I wouldn't play because my firends wouldn't play during release because they would be so far behind.

Im currently in beta and would not buy the game if Blizzard decided to roll over characters from beta onto live servers ( Unless its a test server). Theres so many reasons, and quite obvious ones. For one MMO's need to start off fresh with their economies. You would have a huge gap in beggining raid/PvP from the start, especially on a PvP server. Theres many more I could go into, but people can figure it out on their own.
To ask for more after the fact of being able to beta test from a year to a few months even is being purely selfish and ignorant. I can think of at least 8 friends in real life that would gladly test this game without expecting more once beta is over, and I gurantee there are another 100k+ out there willing as well. So I don't want to hear the excuse but we help them and they should consider a small reward to us.
You huys live in america right, im from the netherlands(Europe) by the time WoW comes out into retail in Europe the ppl in america alrdy had a headstart thats the problem most of MMO games start off in another continent so ppl always have a headstart and i dont care if they do have a headstart so if u would like to keep ur beta char then if the developer allows it keep it cuz im always in a disadvantage when it comes about MMORPG's who dont have a world-wide release date
and acording to the news i last read WoW is such a game
You will be in the same boat as everybody else. Blizzard will have seperate servers for Europe and North America. The only disadvantge would be if you wanted to play on the NA servers then you would be a few months behind. But you can also try to get an account on a NA server when it is released in America and not wait for the EU release.

Beta is a testing phase. The people allowed in the beta are tester and the chars they create are experimental. The purpose of beta is to generate feedback to the developers to enhance game stability and content prior to release.
Beta testers are privileged in being allowed to be a part of this developmental phase, in my opinion. Beta testers should be well aware of the level of their participation. In asking for character transfer, they are showing a level of immaturity that a developer should not have to tolerate in a tester. I personally think they should be removed from the beta along with all the others who violate the Beta TOS.
Perhaps beta testers should have to undergo a more rigorous selection process so that developers can weed out these type of people.
