Some Brief Everquest2 AION comparisons

NomortaLNomortaL Member Posts: 43

This is only my opinion from only checking the game out under level 15 playing the Chinese free trial server.

If im wrong about some things, sorry! :(

Starting zones:

theres only one per race. So everytime I create a new character I have to do the same quests, kill the same monsters etc for the first 10 levels at least

Skill Chains:

I’m very happy they added this to the game actually, it’s just that it would’ve been nice to add inter-class skill chains like Everquest2 does it. For those of you who aren’t familiar with it, A class (scout for instance) does a skill which opens up a skill for another class to do another skill which if completed correctly in succession opens up another skill for another class etc. This make combat more immersive and challenging as teamwork is needed to initiate-conclude a proper chain of skills

Crafting: Crafting in AION seems alright, but I still like Everquest 2’s better. Rather then click craft and wait for the result as in AION, in EQ2 you have to constantly monitor the process to ensure your item is created with full stats, created with mediocre stats or even created at all by using a wide range of craft-making skills particular to each craft.

PvP: I think aion will do much better. Haven’t tried it out yet, but the pvp reward system and sieges and system as a whole looks like a lot of fun! Cant wait

What do you guys think of these differences and do you agree?

Yes 2 starting zones, one per faction. I suspect down the road there will be more and I would welcome them of course as would we all. Luckily once you've played Aion for a bit you can get right through the starting zone in a very short time and out to the 'real world'. Once past the starting zone the world opens up.

I never made it to the high end of EverQuest 2 so cannot comment on that but it does sound interesting. If I am reading you right during a fight each character can do a special ability and when all the characters have done theirs in the correct order something big happens? And if the order the characters do their abilities is different nothing happens or what happens changes? Sort of like a multi character chain skill ability?

Hard Core Larry lays down the fuse, Smilin Joe lays down the bomb, TankNSpank attaches the fuse to the bomb, LeroyLou picks up the bomb and tosses it at the boss, Missmindy goes to light the fuse (Duh!!!). WTF? Damn it Leroy! That's 50 DKP Minus !!!!!!!!!!!

I love complicated crafting. You know if you are going to do crafting you might as well do it. The more stuff you have to get together the better. Yes it is easy to level crafting at first but it does get more complicated as you go up. What i would like to see is more professions. Most games add a new profession each major expansion so I suspect this will go up.

Here's hoping more starting zones open up... i doubt it though since the story and everything is so symmetrical. Making another starting zone would seem to mess up a lot of things. But as you said, you could zip by it pretty quickly, still annoying though.

Yeah thats how it works in a nutshell actually! there are also "rare" skill chains that occur every once in a while that if done in the correct order do something really awesome like major group heal or AOE all mobs or whatever and the scout has the ability to control the skills chains to an extent

ahh, why am i planning to play aion then?

i guess because of the pvp, large influx of new people, new lands to explore, pretty gfx

i hope some of EQ2's ideas get transferred to newer games in the future though

I don't see why people are so hung up on multiple starter areas. The starter area in aion is basically a newbie zone for you to learn the game and not worry about getting ganked by rifters, your not suppose to be there for more then a few hours. If it is such a big deal then don't make any alts. I for one prefer one starter area per faction.

Starter area = 2 hours of gaming max for alt's.

Velika: City of Wheels: Among the mortal races, the humans were the only one that never built cities or great empires; a curse laid upon them by their creator, Gidd, forced them to wander as nomads for twenty centuries...

It's cause people, like myself, don't wanna do the same starter quests on each and every toon they play. It's just boring.

Yea you can blitz thru them easy enough and all but still.

with a character limit, i'm going to take a guess that they don't really want ppl to make alts. why can't people just playing 1 char and stick with it.

  • MNZebaMNZeba Member Posts: 254

In the korean version, you can make up to 5 characters I think.

If you have problems in pvp with a class, usually the best way to learn that class' weaknesses is to play one. You get to see what other peeps do vs you and what is actually effective.

i do like alts but hopefully this is a minor inconvience. The graphics level and air based combat hopefully far outweigh that thou.

Any MMO i have ever played just 1 character is really bland...Gets boring doing the exact same thing every day. With alts you can at least get a little more change. Then theres always the bonus of having multiple characters for endgame functions
