I love this story, because when Bush left office, media pundits were saying he would have trouble raising the money needed to build his library. He was so unpopular, no one even wanted the library on their grounds. Add, on top of that, the lousy economy and it looked like almost herculean task.
But Bush has proved the pundits wrong by raising an astonishing $100 million in only 100 days. By contrast, it took Bill Clinton 2 years to raise $100 million dollars. Just think how much money he would have raised if he had been popular.

If there is one thing Bush is good it, and it is raising and losing money. If you look at his history as a "businessman," this guy has a penchant for (a) raising and (b) losing money.
All of his donors are wealthy individuals, and this is not something to gloat about ("100 million in 100 days.")
One million a day is the problem of Bush.
Obviously, this means that Bush was nothing less than a monumental success as President.
So I started to walk into the water. I won't lie to you boys...I was terrified. But I pressed on, and as I made my way past the breakers, a strange calm came over me. I don't know if it was divine intervention or the kinship of all living things, but I tell you, Jerry, at that moment ... I was a marine biologist.
It really shows how out-of-touch he really was.
Some people, perhaps unsure of themselves or of Bush, needed validation that he was not (a) cowboy, (b) Texan, or (c) fighter pilot. He is a rich guy. A really, really rich guy . . . and he is a fake (a) cowboy, (b) Texan, and (c) fighter pilot.
He was not even an oil man. It is almost embarrassing how fast he was able to raise one-tenth of a billion dollars.
Good for Bush, I guess.
The rich and foreign tend to pay for presidential libraries. After the hundreds of billions in tax cuts and uncollected tax revenues, 100 million is the least they could do. Expect the other 200 million to come quickly as well.
Err yea.....it kind of helps that all his friends are rich dont it?
I would have been more impressed if he raised something like 800 million in 100 days.
Another great example of Moore's Law. Give people access to that much space (developers and users alike) and they'll find uses for it that you can never imagine. "640K ought to be enough for anybody" - Bill Gates 1981
it is so amaizing
1 million a day is a problem?
Im pretty sure he knew what he was doing by asking "wealthy individuals" for the cash.
1 million a day is a problem i WANT!!!
What is your physical limit?
Isnt it fascinating to create a library with the name of a man, who my his own accord did not read much?

I once saw in person the World's Largest Twine Ball in Minnesota.
It was considerably more impressive than a Republican raising money from... fellow republicans, and I'm sure he had a tougher time raising funds for this than Bush did for his shrine.
The guy just left office and is already passing the hat around? That was fast.
"TO MICHAEL!"
It's pretty obvious why he raised so much money is such a short period of time.
There is no question that we are much better off today than we were before he was elected. Factor in 9/11 and Katrina, and the progress was unprecedented. Now, I’m not going to put Walker Bush in the same sentence as Reagan or FDR (from now on), but he did one hell of a job.
President Bush strived to serve all Americans, whether working with Democrats on No Child Left Behind or the Medicare prescription drug benefit, or in appointing the most diverse group of top advisors in history. When the dust settles and historians begin to analyze the Bush Presidency, they will recognize his successes.
qft, Obama doesn't have a mixed cabinet like Bush did that's for sure.
The guy did more to reach over the aisle than any democrat ever and all he got was spit on his hand. But he should not have given that bailout, that was a big fail to me...
Also, speaking of you libs bashing Bush for having 1. Rich friends, and 2. being "rich. uhhh... you do know your guy is just the same right?
how much money was raised during the campaign? 900million? a billion? it was 4 times as much as the republicans remember? And we never did get to see that list of foreign donors did we? hmmm. whatever, just go on one sided blindness some more I'm sure.
afterall, a democrat can do no wrong.

Have you ever been to Texas? We like him. Infact Texas likes the whole Bush family. yes there are people here who don't like him but overall he has the support of Texas.

He didn't prove anyone wrong, this just shows how many rich buddies he has. Even the worst people you could ever meet have buddies that'll help em out.

Did you honestly just say that Bush "did more to reach over the aisle than any Democrat ever"? Do facts exist in your world?
Obama's done more to reach across the aisle in 3 months than Bush did in EIGHT YEARS.

When I lived in NJ, I voted for Christine Whitman, even though I was a state union law enforcement member and she was for union busting. I actually thought, as I do now, that NJ cops made plenty of money.. too much. I know we certainly could have done very well with 15k less a year. She was about fiscal responsiblity and passing the savings to homeowners to relieving tax bills. Plenty of my buddies thought I was nuts about that. She was also for women's rights in abortion, and wasn't hostile to gays.
She later became the EPA secretary and ran afoul of Bush because she actually tried to put restrictions on polluting companies. This pissed those rich jerks off (Whitman was already wealthy) and they cried to Bush and friends. She later resigned but of course, they claimed it wasn't under pressure, lol.
They simply don't like strong willed women, and you can bet that most women who run for office aren't loopy like Michelle Bachman or that other crazy chick the 21% Club has, who just follow the party line. Most women actually have a conscience, so they don't agree with dirty deeds on either side. I think that this is why they don't push and promote women.

I think that's the main reason in red. Conservatives tend to be more pro-life and against gay marriage as you know.
Trust me...I think most conservatives would like a strong willed woman. Look at Sarah Palin! She certainly has her flaws, but NO ONE can say she doesn't have a strong will and look how popular it made her. I think what we need is a sarah palin without the imperfections.
That would be absolutely awesome.

Bull. There's a difference between strong women and a bitter doormat(Hillary) or a shrill bitch(Pelosi).

I like you kobie, and I agree with you on a lot of things. I also think for the better part of about 5 years Bush was a terrible president. In spite of this, you're wrong. Bush tried...a lot, to reach across the isle. Democrats just weren't receptive to it. They didn't think he would compromise on anything so they locked up.
To be taken seriously you have to acknowledge when your team was in the wrong. I don't know if you consider yourself a Democrat, but if so, on this, your team was in the wrong.
Thanks for proving the point.
I bet you don't even know any Republican women officeholders in the national spotlight who speaks for Republicans. But I bet you'll go and Google for them now, won't you?
Where's the Republican strong willed women who have a voice in their party as not just an ornamental piece to stand behind all the men during their press conferences while they talk? Olympia? Hehe. No, there are no female voices in the 21% Club.
You just named two Democratic women who have active, decision making roles in their party. And there are more you see all the time of television and in print. Who speaks for Republicans when they have some message to get out? Sarah, lol? She makes no decisions for the party at all. Heck, she was only allowed to read speeches during the election and when she tried to speak on her own, the McCain camp tried to shut her up.
Newt. Micheal. Dick. Karl. Mike. Mitt. John. Eric. Mitch. Saxby. Rush. Charlie. Bobby. Arnold. Rudy. Boehner. What's going on here is as plain as the nose on anyone's face.

Palin's a state governor.
Pelosi's the leader of the most disapproved Congress in US history. Hillary chose power and status over happiness decades ago. Both of them scream and lash out at anybody who criticizes them. I'm not impressed.
Diversity should be a byproduct of personal achievement, not a quota to be met or a statistic to be maintained. It doesn't look like you understand that.

If you can't tell the Republicans have a anti-female bias in their agenda, unspoken or otherwise, you are the just the type of voter they are looking for. Most anyone else can see what you keep ignoring.
You say you aren't impressed? You aren't impressed that both are accomplished lawyers in their own right? That both worked their way up in the Democratic party on their own merits after putting in dues over many years? That both have always spoken their own minds and have enormous followings of women who look at them as role models? You call them shrill, say they lash out, shout and are bitches? Dude, you need a club and a lioncloth to go along with your views here on strong, successful women.
10% female of GOP House and Senate members out of 535 people while the country's population is 51% women, and you wonder why they have problems with women voters? Women aren't as stupid as you portray them above. That's horrid. Are you seriously saying that the reason Republicans don't have more than 10% female officeholders is because there simply aren't enough women with personal achievement that wouldn't be quotas or statistics? The Republicans simply cannot find any conservative women with personal and career achievements to back for office runnings? Wow.
