Hi EVeryone, I am currently looking for another MMO to play, and when I saw Ryzom became a headling, I went to check out this game and it seems the type of game I'm looking.  If this is the right game, I might as well spend my time to develop on it as well !  But there are few questsions I wanna know about it:

1.) Hows the PvP ?  I know is open world and but also heard is not FFA PvP type.  Can you describe more about it?  Back in the past I even heard that you can build a fortress or something for the guild to defend or invade!  If thats the case I will be excited :D

2.) I heard the crafting is very very good in this game, can you tell me more about it?  As in like, does everyone need somebody to craft weapons/armors for them?  Is the crafting plays a huge role in Player-Driven Economy, like people actually need to go to your place/person to buy stuffs from you?  Or just purely selling to vendor/or buying from vendor?

3.)  Hows the world?  Is it big?  I heard is no zoning, but is it big enough?  Might as well use Vanguard as an comparison.

4.)  Can you own a house?  Does this game even has housing system?  Can you place vendor into it/orsetting up like yourself a Shop similar to SWG?

5.) Are there mounts or anything like that in this game?  Land?  Flying Mount (I hope so)?  Can you combat on the mount?

6.) Hows the population?  Are there enough people to play this game for now?  is it growing ?  How many servers or which server has more population?

There are still lots of questions, but that basically can get me started if i know all of these questions answers.  Anyway, if there are some recently screenshots (lots of old screenshots in here), please updated us too !! :)

Thx for anyone are trying to answer these questions !!  Hope to hear from you !

okay, lots of questions, i'll answer truthfully and hope u'll like the answers. Even if you don't, i suggest you register for the 3 weeks trial account, can't hurt to give it a try, Ryzom has a unique feel to it as you play it, and many (somtimes complicated) distinct features.

    1) there are several kinds of PVP in Ryzom, some used more than others:

    - 1 vs 1: basically: duels

    - GvG: Guild versus Guild, focussed around outposts although guilds often bring in their allies and it turns into huge alliance battles. There are also certain areas in the "Prime Roots" that are Guild versus Guild pvp, so careful if you group there with people from a different guild, as it might lead to unpleasant side effects

    - FvF: Faction versus Faction: In Ryzom there are 2 NPC factions, each with their own distinct religion and appearance, who try to rally the homin races to their side. Once you have comitted yourself to one of these factions, you can turn on your faction pvp flag, and will then be able to battle anyone from the other faction who has their pvp flag turned on, anywhere, any time.

    - Free for all: certain areas in the prime roots, and the 2 arena's (small one on Silan, big one near Yrkanis, the Matis capital) are free for all pvp (i believe people in your team don't count). In those areas in the prime roots some of the most important harvesting sites are also located.

    2) crafting is awesome. Period. There is only one type of item that is dropped by mobs, and that's a certain type of armor, and some of the bosses are nigh impossible to kill. Crafting an item is unlike any game i've ever played before, as it's not simply  "get 2 of this and 3 of that and you get this result". Each item you craft consists of 2 to 4 required item parts. Say for a rifle you'll need a barrel. Now you can make a barrel out of wood, but there are (i think) 5 kinds of wood, each kind with its own stats.every kind of wood is to be found in either of 5 grades (basic, fine, choice, excellent or supreme) and quality level (1-250). Quality level decides how high level players can use the item. In a recipe consisting of 20 materials, changing 1 can change the entire result. Where a material was dug from or hunted from also decides which race's plans you can use it for.

Crafting is a mindgame in Ryzom ;)

Also note, the best materials are to be looted off boss mobs, which spawn approximately every 3 days IRL, or to be harvested at certain seasons/weather/time of day. (example, not based on real stats) Supreme Prime Roots Motega Wood QL 250 might only be available in winter, if it's raining, between 4 and 10pm game time.

    3) it's big, lol. I've never played Vanguard, but it's at least 10 times larger than RF Online. All RFO regions put together would make up 1 Ryzom continent, of which it has 10 (some bigger some smaller of course). Not as big as Guildwars, but after years of playing Ryzom i can't promise you i've seen all of Atys.

    4) You can own a house, but it functions only as a storage container, basically. It cannot be customised, and no other players can enter it, ever.

    5) There are mounts, and they are fast enough to make sure you only get hit once by any mob. No mob can keep up with the mount for long unless you get stuck. This is the reason you can't do mounted combat, this would render things too easy.

    6) Population is growing, though not nearly as large as it once has been. I hope i can persuade you to join the crowd and help Ryzom grow into its own like it deserves ;)

I hope this answered a couple of your questions :p

Ryzom is much more than you asked about, though the harvesting/crafting in its own makes Ryzom unique. I've heard people say it reminds them a lot of the old SWG, tho i never played that game myself.

at the moment there are 3 servers, one "international" where you speak english (Arispotle) a french one (Aniro) and a german one (Leanon).

At certain points in time there were 4 servers, when Ryzom first launched the americans had their own server (Windermeer) but it seems that one never really got off the ground, so after less than a year Windermeer was merged with Arispotle. Gameforge thought they would be getting a lot of new players into the game and opened a second english server as well (Cho), but they did not get the desired influx and again, merged it with Arispotle.

I played Ryzom in the past. I always though the community was split. In my opinion they should have only 1 servers allowing people to speak their own language but cutting off the expenses of 2 more servers. I doubt they really need 3 servers population wise.

Edit: I forgot to say the game is good, you should try it. I didnt stick for long time cause of art desing, I'm a picky guy, but the game is a good and different one.

one multi-language server would give problems for events. As Ryzom is not a game where events are usually repeated, it would not suit roleplay if events had to be done in each of the 3 languages the game is currently available in.

Also, since there are different event teams for each server, the storyline has been progressing quite differently on the various servers. For instance, Aniro has player driven governments, because on that server, a LOT more importance has been given to Roleplay than on Arispotle where the roleplayers are much more discrete.
