Sold my gaming rig

EnigmaEnigma Member UncommonPosts: 11,384

Well, I sold my gaming laptop for a beautiful professional violin.

I have been doing some pretty intense self reflection over the last few months.  During the last few months I have lost over 50 pounds and discovered many hobbies that were lost in the way of gaming and all of this was done just by shutting the lid of my laptop.

I played the trumpet for 20 years and forgot how much I loved playing music. So, I sold my laptop and got myself a nice violin and a great teacher.

Im not saying gaming sucks, but I was so neck deep in it, it virtually sucked all other hobbies out of me. I feel free in a unique sort of way.

I've cut back a lot on PC gaming in the past few months too. It definitely drains you sitting there for a few hours at a time and I'm sure it doesn't help with blood circulation. I've forced myself to do other activities such as working out and just going somewhere after work instead of plopping down in front of the computer for the rest of the nighyt. What were the specs on your gaming machine and how much did you get for it if you don't mind me asking?

Cool. Yeah I've been building up a stash of games over the past few years. I cut waaaay back on my purchases too, I was buying a new one almost every week. Play it for a few days then up on the shelf it goes. I really need to my attention span.

I have so many friggin games with very little time played.

BUt im glad im doing this.

I stopped all my mmorpg's and started playing single player games.  My gaming went from 4 hours a night down to a little over an hour.

Haven't stopped my subscription to WoW yet, but I went to a month to month subscription instead of the 3 month deal.  I have like 4000 gold and am having a hard time about canceling.

Canceled my Warhammer and EQ2 account.

I am now starting to play HAWX, BF2 and just picked up the collection of Medal of Honor.

I think I will get hooked on Jumpgate Evolution when it comes out, so I will be right back where I started...Sheesh

Well if I ever get back into the working world again, my gaming time will take a nosedive.  The only reason I actually do play any mmos right now is because I got a lot of time to kill and can't sleep at night.  At this point it's also come down to me paying for a chatroom, an expensive one at that.  I figure one of these days I'm just going to collect the contact info of the 5 or 6 good people I play with and just stop the subscription to any mmos that I might be playing.  Hell, I'll even run my own vent server so that we can sit in it and bullshit on a daily basis if I have to because in the end I think that's the only thing keeping me there.

No required quests! And if I decide I want to be an assassin-cartographer-dancer-pastry chef who lives only to stalk and kill interior decorators, then that's who I want to be, even if it takes me four years to max all the skills and everyone else thinks I'm freaking nuts. -Madimorga-
