Time to Chunk

I could well be opening a can of worms here, but I'm curious as to around how many seconds it takes you to cross a chunk line and just what it is that effects this in terms of computer hardware.

My system is getting a bit old now and it looks like this;

Intel Core 2 Duo E6850 3.00GHz

4GB DDR2 RAM

Nvidia 8800GTS 640MB

X2 Raptor 10,000RPM WD HDD (Raid 0)

Vista Ultimate 32

Which component would decrease the time it takes to cross a chunk  line? It currently takes me about 5 seconds or so.

    About the same - 5 seconds, give or take. Our systems are dang closer except I have xp not vista and 3gb of rams.

    Similar system, same amount of RAM, takes me about 4 -6 seconds on average...

    Personally my response is going to be.... nothing. (edit:  to clarify I mean there is nothing on your paticular system that you can change to affect this).

    Chunking in VG is like crossing sub-servers in UO was... odd things happened along the lines.  Outside of if you were having performance issues in general due to your hardware... the main issues with this (chunking) aren't coming from something you can control... at least not with your hardware.

    That's just presented from my opinion..  See what others have to say.

    Note:  Basicly you are either looking at something from the server end or the client or both.  So unless you can recode the client or optimize the server.... perhaps both.  Mostly I believe relatively what you see when you "chunk" is that the client has to re-sync after you cross a server line.  Which is also why very odd things can happen along those lines.

    Ususally 2 seconds or so.  Sometimes less.

    Same here.

    Seems to vary somewhat depending on if I have recently crossed that line.  The first time it takes maybe 3-5 seconds, the second time 1-2 seconds.
