I don't know what you're so happy and proud about.

I'd have prefered it to stay vaporware rather than being 'released' in this state.

Well, I'm sure people agree with that. I do. I hate unfinished games. Between server issues, fixing exploits and bugs, catching hackers, worrying about balancing issues, implementing skills might be far down on the list of things to do. That's the problem with a botched release - it shreds the first impression of a game.

But its still released. People suggested it was a fricken cash scam FFS - that's just ignorant. That's not even an opinion, its just a flame with no merit.

Now I don't really care that people spouted it off before release (even in beta), because some people genuinely thought that the game was a load of crap. However, those same people didn't seem to recant with the same effort they put into driving the point home in people's mind. That's my problem with all of this.

All software is vaporware until it launches. Because some software never makes it out the door, even if played by thousands of beta testers and the pre-order packages are on the store shelves.  G & H anyone?

DF was in the same boat. Aventurine was highly secretive about its development and did not show it around like most developers do these days. (and we now know why)

Right now DF is still a pretty dodgy applicaiton, with its limited release and missing features, so much so there's still some debate whether we can truely call this game "released" (according to conventionally accepted definitions) or is it really just a paid beta?

I think we should go back to the OP getting socked in the mouth topic.

It is much more entertaining a topic than DF.

Here is what you should have done.....

BF socks you in the mouth...

You ask BF how your d*** taste....

    He takes another swing....

You duck, THEN stick him in the cheek with the screwdriver.

You look at GF then at BF then at GF then at BF....

Then sock the GF in the mouth for getting you into that mess.

EDIT - As if you couldn't tell, I have been in quite a few scuffles in my day, the above scenario works everytime.

Why stop at a screwdriver to the cheek?  See if you can itch his pituitary gland with it.

Very true Locklain, typically in my experience, once they have taken any blunt trauma to the head or face, not many people are dumb enough to continue the confrontation.

There are those few exceptions, for those I switch to Louisville Slugger complete with tapped grip, and proceed to Christopher Reeve them into submission.

Off-topic - I got punched in the mouth yesterday afternoon getting into a conflict with the boyfriend (surprise to me) of a girl I've been dating. I stabbed him in the left cheek with a phillips head screwdriver. I would rather avoid conflict, so I don't get into that kind of trouble, and honestly, "drama" gives me anxiety attacks.

Wow dude you are so fucking cool. -_-

I remember thinking Darkfall might be vaporware during a large part of the eight years since it was first annouceed but this idea was something Aventurine deliberately fostered themselves.

The OP ignores the fact that Aventurine did nothing to disprove the vaporware suspicions aside from very spotty annoucements by Tasos, who the community has learned talks from parts of his body other than his mouth.  During the development, AV provided very limited interviews and there were occasional claims that people had played the game but nothing by reputable independent sources.

Trying to follow the game and learn about it (to alieviate one's ignorance about it) meant leanring out there was no real information, no solid previews, no public demos or much of anything not solely provided by Aventurine for years.

The gaming community had seen this exact kind of behavior before with games that ended up being vaporware.   Since AV had not provided any proof to independent reviewers, many in the community looked at history and made their judgement.

It wasn't until the last few months of development that there was (barely) sufficient revelations from AV that they had something real.

Now, the fanbois try to bring this up as if it somehow makes any difference with AV/Tasos current behavior or problems with the game.   If the it will shut up threads like this then I will take the Christopher Titus approach and Step Up.

"Darkfall fanbois, I apologize.   While following the development of your game for years without any solid evidence it was real, I thought it might be vaporware.

I lacked your blind faith and unquestioning acceptance that Tasos was telling the whole and complete truth with everything that he said during the game's development.     I had the audacity to question Aventurine and wonder where was the proof for this game.    I apologize that I will always need evidence before I believe anything a developer says about their game."

And BTW OP - we're all really impressed you claim to have stabbed someone in the face as if that had anything to do with anything  Oooooo!  U R Scary!

Any MMO that takes as long as DF did will get it's fair share of haters and others to call it vaporware. Point being let it go dude, it's a moot point to begin something like this post and your just trolling, knowing that this thread will get flamed in some way.

    Went more like...

BF tells me to piss off after I knock on her door.

I tell him I want to talk to her.

    He smarts off.

I inform him I've been screwing her since Feb, and if he is really her boyfriend, he needs to keep that in check.

    He puts hands on me.

We do a two-step on the porch, me trying to toss him off of it (I'm a scrawny bastard - no dice here).

I get a short right to the mouth.

I step off of the porch, pull my shit from my back pocket, tried to get his left eye but got his cheek instead.

He gets opened up, running back in the house.

I take off down the street.

Follow this up with general anxiety for the rest of the day, and you can understand why I don't seek conflict or drama. It's not worth the blood pressure.

As for your advice - total classic.

LOL, DUDE! You gonna have to learn to take good opportunites when they arise. That situation you were in, only comes around maybe 1... 2 times in a mans life.

    So for your second attempt...

Scratch that I will just fix your above confrontation how it should have gone.

    Went more like...

BF tells me to piss off after I knock on her door.

I tell him I want to talk to her.

You tell him you want to talk to him outside where she can't hear.

    He smarts off.

He comes out, and wants to know what this is about.

I inform him I've been screwing her since Feb, and if he is really her boyfriend, he needs to keep that in check.

You Inform him you been screwing his girl since feb, and if it is cool with him if you continue to do so while he is at work.

    He puts hands on me.

You tell him, "Look, she been charging me and the other guys at my workplace $50 bucks a pop each, for months. She getting rich dude behind your back and your to stupid to even realize it."

"Tell ya what, you can watch if you want, but you tell her that it's going down to $35 instead of $50 since another dude is in the room."

We do a two-step on the porch, me trying to toss him off of it (I'm a scrawny bastard - no dice here).

I get a short right to the mouth.

You bite off his left ear and spit it at him.

I step off of the porch, pull my shit from my back pocket, tried to get his left eye but got his cheek instead.

He gets opened up, running back in the house.

While he is running away from you chuck the screwdriver and try to make it stick in the spinal cord area.

I take off down the street.

If you missed with the screwdriver, you go pick it up and carve "FU UR GF IS A WHORE" into the front door.

    THEN

You take off down the street.

Thats is how you play the next one bro, keep it real.

I hate gag-orders and so forth, but seriously. What should Tasos have done? Spouted off that they werent making as much progress as they thought? Say "We got a tree finished today."? With limited resources, you can't expect a polished WoW at launch, and frankly, if they out and ADMIT that the game will be crap on launch, then no one will pay fifty bucks for it. That means no revenue, which means the project dies.

My point is that after BETA people will still spewing that vaporware crap. They didn't want to accept reality.

And that's crap about blind faith. I don't know about the fanbois, but I'm a realist on MMOs. You don't get what you want. You often don't get what's advertised. And what you've done is turn the fact that the DF launch sucks into justification for claiming the game didn't exist when videos started popping up on the internet about it.

As for the last comment - I'm not impressing anyone. Some colorful person made an allusion towards me seeking drama or conflict, and I used a real world example to explain why I don't seek that kind of garbage.

Where are those posters? They couldn't admit that they were wrong? This isnt a post to say DF is the best game ever, but in all honesty, it recieved a shitload of hate based on the fact that it wasnt released. Something about a few fanbois making up stories about the gameplay, and using bots to play with, or some such nonsense.

Anyway. You trolls [Edit:] enjoy lewd acts. [Edit]   Darkfall was obviously released (Even if there is a lame-assed shop delay thing going on), and you were wrong.

Update - this isnt a troll post. I'm calling people on their bullshit and slander. Nothing baiting about it. If  over a hundred forum users cry "VAPOURWARE!", and the game is released, then someone should say something about it. I've edited the post a bit to ensure that carebear whiners don't get offended.

I must agree it is still vaporware, this is not the game they had on the web site for all these years, Df now is a shel of the game listed. this is two guys and a stick nothing more.

And you are a sarcastic e-critic. I would much rather people leave me alone for the rest of my life unless I need something from them than to get involved in "drama". You don't seem to believe that simply because something got on my nerves (the OP) so much that I shared my opinion with the forum.

Hell, if I would have gotten NO responses, that would have been better than to automatically scream "TROLL", as if I gave a damn what people thought about my rage over this subject. Hell, I would have forgotten about it by tonight and never thought about it again, which is why I made the thread. I got irritated about the "Vapourware" comments made a while back, and posted. No agenda. No seeking to get flames, reactions, etc. Just posting my thoughts about it.

Cramony. Not used to getting a forum poster who sometimes just posts what's on his mind, without a motive?

So Tommy takes out an ad in the newspaper advertising he is opening The World's Best Steakhouse where they will serve and their customers will enjoy the world's best steaks.  They repeatedly claim that this steakhouse will put all other steakhouses to shame.  The taste will be revolutionary.  So you and other people who love steak, follow the development of the resturaunt.  A year pass... no resteraunt just the promise of tweaking the grills just right and arranging the spices just right is taking more time than initially planned.  Resturaunt after resturaunt opens up, but meanwhile the World's Best Steakhouse still haven't opened it doors yet. 2 years... 3 years passes.. not steakhouse.  Seven years pass and most people are doubting the Steakhouse will ever open, but once again Tommy puts ads in all the newspaper about his Steakhouse.  Most of the people are doubtful and rightfully so as many steakhouses and resturaunts have come and some have gone since Tommy first began his claim.

Finally the World's Best Steakhouse is opened, but Tommy only allows the most loyal and faithful people who followed him throughout the development to come in and eat.  When the table is set instead of steak, the cooks brings out vienna sausages with pig sh it sprinkled on top with care.  The word gets out and everyone clearly knows this Steakhouse isn't what it was advertised to be.

So what's the point in gloating over the fact that the resturaunt opened when there's nothing close to the world's best steak being served?

Define "released".  Can you go to darkfallonline.com and buy a copy right now?  No?  Is that really released?

I never called it vaporware and I honestly don't care if tomorrow the game folds or announces its' one millionth subscriber.  Certainly it's not vaporware because it has paying customers, but I don't know if I'd go making a troll thread about it, either.

As for the last comment - I'm not impressing anyone. Some colorful person made an allusion towards me seeking drama or conflict, and I used a real world example to explain why I don't seek that kind of garbage.

That was me and i still assert that your a drama queen!.

Shut up then if your not bothered, i am bothered because i find it entertaining to read your delusional bs, so i don't see a problem really. Choice being a simple shut up and i can't say anything or carry on and entertain me some more. Simple eh.

Hmm I'd have to say you haven't been paying attention.  Most of the folks who said it was vaporware conceded that it wasn't when beta was *finally* announced.

As to the gameplay?  I will simply refer you to the various reviews of the games and the rather large number of very pissed off former AV customers to point out that the Gameplay is not what was advertized at all.  If it were there wouldn't be such a large number of ticked off people.  And while I do think the Eurogamer review was a bit ..... harsh... they were accurate in most of their statements.

Personally I wish it had been vaporware :(  Because the release they did is just one more nail in the coffin of sandbox style MMORPG's because they released such an utter pile of crap.  And what's sad is the people who defend it just ensure that more and more MMO's will release in this state.   What's almost as reprehensible (to me) as that is the fact that all along they kept saying that the game was finished, polished, ready for release, feature complete... etc.  It is not.

Darkfall was Vaporware becasue it met the criteria. It is now in the category of Redemptive software, similar, but not quite as successful as Half Life.

Half Life was once Vaporware. The fact that it released doesn't change the fact that it was for a time vaporware. It does change the current classification of the software to "redemptive software". This is the same boat Darkfall is in now, only it hasn't quite redeemed itself as much as Half Life.

But you wouldn't say for example, Half Life was never vaporware, because at one time it was. So you can't say Darkfall was never vaporware, because at one time it was. You can say it is not now vaporware, so hooray.

The problem was that the way adventurine and Tacos Flamebroiled handled  news, info, and the amount of time it took to make this game could've been easily percieved as vaporware.
    Get over it OP.

No, I won't get over it. I'm glad you pointed out WHY the argument was made, and I can understand that totally. However, people don't get to just say whatever they want, convince others its fact, then bury their head in the sand when they are proven totally wrong.

Yeah, Tacos is half an idiot, and the entire development of the game could have been handled better, but still. Missing features doesn't surprise me. Release date changes, half finished peices of crap, and general chaos doesn't shock me. I played Roma Victor. I know about that stuff. However, the game ISN'T a fantasy or a lie, and I haven't seen anyone really point that out once accounts started going out the door.

FFS, after the first account shop session, people were still claiming that the game wasn't real, and that people couldn't purchase an account. That's an idiotic half-truth aimed at raging over god-knows-what.

Dude you need this sites info and quick!:

Off-topic - I got punched in the mouth yesterday afternoon getting into a conflict with the boyfriend (surprise to me) of a girl I've been dating. I stabbed him in the left cheek with a phillips head screwdriver. I would rather avoid conflict, so I don't get into that kind of trouble, and honestly, "drama" gives me anxiety attacks.

On-topic - Every single good thing that was ever said about the game was shot down with "THE GAME IZ VAPORWARE LUL! U KEEP PRAYING, FANBOI!" That wasnt true.

It IS true that the game is missing 60% of its features (Deja vu), and that someone could say "The DF I knew never got released". That's just splitting hairs, however. A little off topic - you have to consider that you can't expect a finished product from a company that doesn't have the manpower/resources to finish it under a deadline. The development of DF will be slow, half-assed, and not according to a schedule. That's just the way it is.

HOWEVER, no matter how shit the game is, Darkfall got released. It's always existed. Saying otherwise was just an uninformed (and that's what bothers me the most - the ignorance) blast of rage against any opinion that the flamer didn't agree with.

Now you have legitimate reasons to hate the game. My post is just stating that the previous reasons were invalid and assumptions.

That sure is one hell of an off-topic tidbit.

I never called it vaporware and I honestly don't care if tomorrow the game folds or announces its' one millionth subscriber.  Certainly it's not vaporware because it has paying customers, but I don't know if I'd go making a troll thread about it, either.

I just bought another account today, actually. I despise the "shop week" horseshit they have going on over there, but I can't control that. You can purchase the game on the dates and times that are listed on the official forums. That's a limited release, or something. I think it's a bad way to do business, but it hardly makes the game a myth, which is what rubbed me the wrong way in the first place.

Cairnurk, i wanna help you, sooo, i agree that the game exists, i agree you and many others like the game, i agree that you were miffed and that your not just a ravenous fanboi. I don't agree that the game is as advertised and i dont agree that you can call the game released as is. And to my taste, the player base isnt for me, but may be for some. So now mate, give it up eh?, your just repeating yourself over and over now.

If you're finished, then get out of my thread. You've made your points, I made mine, and we've counterpointed each other well enough. I'm not going to convince you of anything you don't want to hear, and vice versa. I was just putting out what was bothering me about this particular subject, and like any good forum goon, you dove on it like you're grinding Intelligence from posting enough times.

Just the simple fact that some forum users still think that they literally CANNOT purchase the game is reason enough to keep this thread alive, if just to point them in the right direction. The business model for DF since release is enough to make you want to rip your own eyes out, but its still there.
