PVP / PK

roodbwoyroodbwoy Member Posts: 120

Does EQ2 has a PvP system or a PK system. If yes what ruleset? Open PvP, player looting, murder-system? Some indept knowledge wouldbe nice, I'm looking for a 2nd game to play and I like the idea of endless indepth questing, but imho a mmorpg without a risk factor (deathpenalty, chance of being PKed) is boring. That's why I like to get some information on the risk vs reward factor.

Thank you in advance!

If you are looking for that kind of game, this isn't it. Yes, it has a PvP system but its not very good, the game isn't balanced for PvP, and the game won't ever be balanced for PvP. PvP in this game is an afterthought that was added years later and the devs have kept their promise to keep the game PvE focused.

You cannot PvP at all on the RP server Antonia Bayle.

On regular servers you have two options, ask people if they will duel you by right clicking and selecting "duel". But most people turn that option off in options and its considered extremely rude to actually ask in /tell or in the open channels like /ooc, /shout, /yell etc so if you do that you likely won't get a response in any possible way if they don't put you on ignore for it. The reason is that most people have very little consideration for others and will send you the stupid /duel request when you're right in the middle of battling something and it gets you killed because you have to close the damned window that pops up to see the monster properly to keep fighting. Personally, I have the window turned off. If you message me to duel, I consider it rude and will probably ignore the request with no response. If you persist, I'll put you on ignore.

The second option on the regular servers is to use the Arena but nobody ever goes there.

There are PvP servers. I don't know the rules because I loath PvP and I won't take part in those servers.

Players in EQ2 don't like the mentality that PvP brings out in people. And, by keeping them all on one server, we generally don't deal with them either.

What you seem to be looking for isn't an MMORPG, its an online first person shooter game. You shouldn't be looking at MMO's. And you should reevaluate what you really want in a game. Most people don't like that attitude.

By god, you make it sound like people are spitting on you when they ask to duel.

Is a "Excuse me, would you like to duel?" really that offensive as to not even be graced with a polite decline?

Because every single time I've had that happen, they won't just accept "No, sorry. I don't want to", they want a whole big long annoying explanation as to why and I have other things to do.

Excuse me? I like to participate in exiting battles between players, which are dynamic, intense and unpredictable. You like to participate in scripted events which are the same over and over and definitly not dynamic nor unpredictable. I am not bashing you, though you are bashing me, but responses like these are fubar. I thank you for the rest of the information which is valid and help me decide to actually start playing or not.

And on the FPS note, if you can provide me with a FPS game which has in depth character-development, dungeons, crafting and is a MMO. Please, I be happy to give it a shot!

    Don't pretend you know me,...

     *edit*

a game without Risk Vs Reward is well, not very rewarding to play...

Player1: "Wooow! Nice Epic Sword of Impending Doom!, How'd you get it"

Player2: "Well, I took 2 weeks of holiday IRL so I could grind this dungeon to farm the resources there"

    or

Player1: "Wooow! Nice Epic Sword of Impending Doom!, How'd you get it"

Player2: "Well, I took 2 weeks of holiday IRL so I could grind this dungeon to farm the resources there, but a rivalising guild we are at war with tried to stop us so it ended up in a war for control, eventually we won, and got some nice loot and coin from the players we killed"

    or

Player1: "Lalala I'm bored, hey another player *SLASH PIERCE KILL"

Player2: "Whatever, you just saved me a trip to the city cuz I respawned there"

    or

Player1: "Lalala I'm bored, hey another player *SLASH PIERCE KILL"

Player1 loots Epic Sword of Impending Doom from Player2's body

Player2: "this means war, WAR I TELL YOU!"

Player1 sees Player2's angry bloodthirsty guild storming ot him, right before he understood what reactions his action triggered it was too late and he found himself respawned at the ressurection-point. Stripped from his beloved items and coin.

    Morale of the story;

The higher the risk, the bigger the reward

Higher risk = less morons (ala ROFL LOL NUB I IZ PKING JOEZ CUZ I R BORED)

Higher risk = more unwritten social rules

Higher risk = people actually working/grouping/socialising together due to the lurking danger

Such a smug reply. You must feel special in your all confined little small WoW copied mmorpg.

Give me a break if your game actually had any PvP in it then it would have a subscriber base. Not to mention the smug remark you made about PvPers.. wow, and I thought the hardcore acne PvPing kids were the assholes of mmorpgs. No, it's the freakish people like yourself who turn these sides (PvP/PvE) into some racist war.. just by what you say i can tell people like you contribute to most of the evil that exist in this world today. Good riddance to this game.

EQ2 pvp is poor.  No loot, no penalty.  No - and I mean 0 class balance.  Close to perfect invis.  Long duration stuns on the high dps stealthing classes.  Leveling  goes something like, running to hand in a quest - stunned, dead.  Respawn..Repeat till you log off.

This sounds exactly like WoW pvp, he sad thing is, Blizzard actually tries to balance pvp but it's pretty much sitting at 0 class balance.

It's true this game is not balanced for PVP, but dueling someone is not considered "extremely rude."  Most people probably dont want to do it because they have no experience doing it and don't want to lose, or they downright know they will lose.

Oh grow up. Its only the truth from other people that I've heard that take part in PvP in EQ2. This game isn't balanced for PvP and it won't ever be so why would a PvP'r come to EQ2 looking for PK? This ISN'T the game for it. It has nothing to do with smugness and everything to do with fact. Think.

I was working up a character on a PvP server to see what it was all about, and now I know. The second, the very second I dinged level 10 I was attacked, stunned, killed and looted. So now I have a character slot to put on a server with more sane rules.
