WoW was ok for awhile. Diablo I and II is fun for about an hour. I couldn't stand Warcraft or Starcraft. There are better strategy games than these two ip's. To me every single one of Blizzards games are a dumbed down version of whatever genre they are taking on. Not that it's a bad thing as simplicity sells. But I've never personally gotten into these games.
Massively first reported on a post on the official World of Warcraft forums from Community Manager Zarhym that confirms that the speculation as to whether or not the new Blizzard MMO would be based on the Diablo or Starcraft franchises is over. It won't be. In a post responding to the user statement: "People are saying that there is another MMO in the works at Blizzard. Seriously, if there was, they would be advertising it already." Zarhym told the forums that: "We have nothing to advertise for the new MMO because it's a shell of a game thus far. We've already stated it'll be a brand new franchise, which means the lore, art, and game play are being developed entirely from scratch. It's an overwhelming process, but a process through which we excel. Our track record supports this." So, as it stands right now, it appears as though Blizzard is going to stray away from their tested and true franchises and broaden their scope with something new.
Well, better than World of Starcraft or World of Diablo.
I hope it will differ from Wow a lot since we already have a Wow.
First time in over 10 years since Blizz made a new world. I also hope it is not a regular fantasy game, we have way too many of them around. Good for Blizzard anyways, if they only continue with Warcraft, Diablo and Starcraft the company would die sooner or later, you can only make that many sequels.

It won't be Starcraft that is for sure.. However, I do suspect that Sci-Fi is the first option they might go with..If not sci-fi then I got my money on a super-hero format.. As said before, Fantasy can be ruled out..

I got my money on them doing the same thing over and over, blizzard is mediocre at best, thats my opinion anyways. So Sci-fi or not it will follow the same repetitive formula as WoW, where expansions will be nothing new, with rehashed models and instances.
If they do something different and pull it off, i'll be suprised.
There is not a whole lot of directions Blizzard can go. Either sci-fi or fantasy. Could be something loosely based on Call of Cthulhu. Doesn't matter really what they do...you can bank on it turning into a 800 pound gorilla of the gaming world.
Shocking to see that it is not going to be something we aready know. The question will be did they buy an existing ip from someone or did they actually create one on their own.
Well not so fast this is Blizzard the king of misdirection.
We're not working on SC2 and yeah they were
We have no plans right now for Diablo III and they were deep in devlopment
I have been told by a couple of folk at Blizzard not to take the new IP jazz too seriousely. Technically World Of Sanctuary would be a new IP.

Get the picture? So now you'll say "well they stole 'some' ideas?" Your arguement just doesn't hold up well, get over it.
I never said that Starcraft was not a boiled down version of Warhammer 40k. Blizzard is known for its refinement. Even the visual
style takes cues from WH40k. Just like Warcraft takes them from Warhammer Table top miniatures.

this is the stupidest argument ever.....Starcraft only has three races.......and they were all stolen for Warhammer. I personally have no porblem with this, but it is true that starcraft stole blatenly from warhammer.
Currently Playing: Fallen Earth Played and liked: TCOS, Vanguard, Guild Wars, DDO Played and didn't like: CO, MO, STO, DF, AoC, WAR, WoW, EQ2, EVE, most f2p Waiting for: Earthrise, Guild Wars 2, Secret World

So they didn't copy (or influenced by) all the races. When I first played Warcraft and Starcraft I really noticed how much they were influenced by the Warhammer universe. Most games are not original concepts and get their feel from other games, it's the nature of culture. I won't point fingers at Blizzard, but neither will I discount where they got their ideas from namely Warhammer.
As for their next MMO, I don't hold out much hope. They'll start with a solid entertaining game then decide they want it to be taken seriously as an e-sport and turn all the classes in it to a generic, boring grindfest. I'm all for progress, but I find WoW definitely not fun since they concentrated on PvP areanas.
Starcraft and Warcraft were hevily influenced by GamesWorkshop's Warhammer 40k and Warhammer tabletop games. No big deal. Don't know why anyone would make a big deal out of it. I don't know why anyone would have a hard time reliseing it either....

I guess Blizzard has "officially" announced it will be a new IP, but people at worldofraids.com had figured it out months ago. It would be hilarious if it was a sandbox.
You say hilarious, I say...excellent, muhahaha! I know I may not have...ok, I am not a fan of WoW, but Blizzard have a record of hosting a solid game. If they make another game in the WoW mold, I wouldn't be interested. Let's hope they go a "different route". I mean, companies like Turbine went from the AC method of making an MMO to a WoW mold with LOTRO. No reason Blizzard couldn't pull the old Monthy Python line: "And now for something completely different!".
"Many nights, my friend... Many nights I've put a blade to your throat while you were sleeping. Glad I never killed you, Steve. You're alright..."
I mean, companies like Turbine went from the AC method of making an MMO to a WoW mold with LOTRO. No reason Blizzard couldn't pull the old Monthy Python line: "And now for something completely different!".
The correct Turbine progression would be AC > AC2 (shut down, AC2 = modern MMO UI) > WoW (Wow copied a lot from AC2 and others) > DnD + LOTRO (Boath use the AC2 engine, and many of its gameplay features).
I would love to see Blizzard try a sandbox game. I do not think they will however, they are after large profits after all.

I think it sells Blizzard a little short to think they can't take those ideas and make a popular, 1-2 million subscriber name. I think it's funny, that when game studio uses some old IP (like Lord of the Rings, Age of Conan or Warhammer), everyone talks happily of how good game it's going to be. But when Blizzard creates their own IPs and worlds, they are just ripping off existing older IPs and being uninnovative.
Give Blizzard some credit for creating completely new IPs for their games instead of just licensing old ones, even if new fantasy worlds and stories are often influenced by existing worlds and stories.

Blizzard doesnt have one gram of originality in any of their games. and whats ever worse, not one atom of honesty
I give more credit to those that at least have the honesty to buy the real IP and try to make it the most similar to the real game, than to a company that literally stole hundreds of models, redesigned them a bit here and there yet anyone with half a brain can see the blatant similarities, and gave them a new name
