I can end this right now. NO, droids are not a class you can pick as a stand alone playable class in TOR. Droids will play an important role in your personal story arc though.
Droids as main playable class is fail. People can not identify with droids. Only thing I see possible is a General Grevious type droid which is a hybrid.
I was wondering about the droids myself, but I don't think it will be something we see at launch. My money would be on the Mandolarians or smugglers next.
