I'm not trying to be a hater or anything. I actually am looking for cunstructive critism or praise of the game. Like genuily why anyone would like the game. Or what is it that has kept them playing it for months.
I myself played it for about 2 months. I got to the point to basic raids, PVP, and the other format of PVP interaction (forget the name) the stuff like where you have points of control.

The road to hell is paved with good intentions
The graphic is good to behold. There is lot of things to do as a explorer. A huge community. The lore is good. The quests makes me sometimes laugh. There is alot of classes. The pve/pvp content is fun. Cute pets. Festivals. A great UI. Good friends.
And the best part; the game engine does what its suppsoed to do so I dont have to see shutters, alot of micro load times, glitches and so on.

Here's a thread that was created a couple days ago but is on page two with 5 pages of replies:
www.mmorpg.com/discussion2.cfm/thread/235608/Why-WoW.html
Tell me you didn't see this. Either that or you some internet self esteem by creating your own thread?
Do we really need another "Why WoW" thread?
I wrote an article on this subject
What Blizzard did right and did wrong with World of Warcraft
In the end, WoW is a very good PVE game of which Most players are just burnt out
Torrential: DAOC (Pendragon)
Awned: World of Warcraft (Lothar)
Torren: Warhammer Online (Praag)
You played it for two months. Seems to me like you enjoyed it.
I find it hard to rationalize the idea that these games should be entertaining endlessly.
donjn no I didn't see it. I should have done a search, but was lazy. Thanks for the link.
ianubisi, yea I liked it, but for me it ran out of steam relatively quickly compared to many other MMOs i've played. Just for some it seems like people love this game to no end. And people studying the game as if it is some new phenomena. To me the game is just a solid standard MMO, but I find that it's marketing budget and out reach is very huge. Like if you take WoW and make a clone it'll fail. It needs the WoW IP and the Marketing to get the numbers it has.
Czzarre, thanks for the link to your article, I pretty much agree the whole way.
IF you can't see how what happened with WOW is a new phenomena you're probably not seeing a lot of things ^^
Probably for all the reasons you don't. Life is crazy like that.
I think you're on to something here. Those Mr. T and William Shatner commercials have brainwashed over 12 million people. But lucky for you, you're smarter than them!
i see plenty great things in WoW. I'm trying not to down play WoW, I think it's a great game, very well polished especially at this point. However, there are just so many things that were going for it that if it was any other MMO it wouldn't have done as well. The IP + Billzard$ + Smart Marketing = Win. I just think people look at the game WAY too closely and think, ok this is it. But I don't see it that way, to me to understand WoW you have to look at the HUGE picture, like 3 titles of RTS story, over a decade of Blizzard being around so people are very familiar, and great marketing strategies. I mean they had a Role Playing Game a year before WoW even came out and they were publishing novels 3 years before WoW like a year before War3 came out. The franchise is expansive with extensive lore. Some may say, I've never heard of etc, etc, but for sure people did play the RPG or the RTS or read the books. I mean the story is great. It has such a huge backing. I can imagine the people who were shitting themselves when they found out one of their favorite franchises was going to make MMO.
My point is that WoW is not just a game and to treat it like a game and then compare other MMOs to WoW and say "well they don't have millions of people playing the game" is not really a fair camparo. If it's the game vs game, I think it's a different story. I mean if Lucas Arts didn't SUCK at making games SWG might have been pretty good and the ONLY reason it had as many users as it does (did) was because it's Star Wars, plenty of fans out there. Blizzard however is great at making solid games and this combined with a very large IP and great marketing strategies is to me what puts WoW ahead, not jsut the game itself.
If WoW was a brand new IP, just another fantasy IP back in 04 I highly doubt it would have gotten this far. I don't think people understand how crucial it is for an MMO to be successful almost right off the bat. I mean what makes an MMO and MMO is the people, if you don't get enough people in the begining it's going to be a slow battle.
Half the reason Atlantica Online has a good rating and any users is because it's DRASTICALLY different from the other MMOs, word of that kind travels fast these days. And since it's decent (still needs A LOT of work) it probably has a fairly low bounce rate compared to a lot of MMOs.
But seriously, if say Atlantica Online was based on the Warcraft IP I think it would be EXTREMELY huge.
I mean it's probably why there are people carefully watching Bioware to see if they can to a decent MMO for the Star Wars fans. And if so it's going to pretty dang popular.
Don't necessarily >>like<< WoW - well nemore neways but...
1. It's Warcraft
2. Made by Blizzard
3. Possibly the polish...I mean the game runs so smooth...I just couldn't get into other mmorpgs because they weren't as smooth as WoW...but please don't give me that "well it's cuz WoW has been out for so many years" crap because I played WoW since the beginning and it was still smoother near its start than any other mmorpg.
And for the record, no I'm not a fanboi - I quit WoW ages ago.
My hate for signatures is surpassed only by my love for irony.
What's not to like about it?

im to lazy too use grammar or punctuation good
Because it is a fun game with tons of stuff to do, and lots of content.
Sure, it won't last forever, but it will be quite a while before one can exhaust some of its content.
Its the best PvE game ever made IMO. The breadth and scope of the content is mind boggling. The often mentioned "polish" is also very important. It seems seemless.
Is it perfect? No, there are lots of design decisions I would have made differently, but that will always be the case with anything this big.
WoW is an amazing game. I think it and Eve are the best MMOs ever made.
I played WOW when it first came out, but quit after a few months for 2 reasons - lack of content and the main reason was the immaturity and obnoxiousness of some in the user community.
I am a veteran player of MMORPGs and in some the mention of WOW is enough to set them off probably due to their view of the user community in WOW. It's a shame because I thought it could be an engaging MMORPG with a large user community.
One thing that seems a bit bothersom is that I hear of nice things from each new expansion, but as a new player how do you get to them?
I'm interested in hear more of the Wotlk territory control, since that always bothered me that territories couldn't change.
People like WoW!?!??
Yep, all 11.500.000 of them and they ALL want to pay just to play it.
Strange isn't it?
Yes... Yes it is...
Ok then, I should also say there are over 12 million people PAYING to play club peguin. That's right, they pay too and buy stuff in-game.
Stop trying to spam the payment thing. You know Britney Beers gets paid a lot and makes a lot of record sales, good music artist? No....
Anyways, back to what you were talking about. I'm glad they got mounted combat going on since that was one of my gripes before as I've played MMOs with other mounted combat and thought it added to the experience. How is it handled? Do the mounts effect stats? Do they alter fighting format? Like some mounted combat cuase different moves to be restricted and some to be increased. Is it the same here?
And you mentioned something about territories that can be controlled. Can you elaborate more about that?
The game has the smoothest controls for any mmorpg that requires the use of wasd and mouse movement.
The lore is very deep and pretty much represents what would be warcraft 4 or warcraft 5 but with greater focus on individual denizens and groups rather then military powers.
The class abilities in the game are the most fun and well-thought out i've ever seen in a fantasy mmorpg.
Competitive pvp requires strategy and fast reactions and reflexes.
Guilds are pretty competitive with each other which leads to drama which leads to lolz on the forums.
Raiding can be very fun, especially when you finally take down that boss you and your friends have been struggling with.
Many content updates.
Things I like about WoW hmmm. The game has subpar graphics but it runs smooth, character movement just feels right. Combat is extremely fluid and responsive unlike a lot of other MMOs and the character and combat animations just feel right. And they mesh well with the art design of the world, "It just feels right" I guess you could say. Most new MMOs I play the game will run like crap on good systems, and the combat feels clumsy and slow. I hate WoWs community and endgame design in general though.
wow was once a pretty good mmo . then a couple of years ago things started to go a little awry . the problem with wow now is there literally no challenge to it . you can easily get to level 80 wih full epic gear within 4 months .the community that there was is pretty much gone . you get a lot of short term players and alts now . in europe the servers seam less busy inspite of there being officially as many player . this could be because wow revolves around at lot of instanced game play now . warcraft does offer some good gameplay still . but because of the faster leveling its difficult to experiance of lof of the mid level game because theres fewer people interested in doing instances at those levels these days . no one really trys int he battlegrounds because to be honest now it does nt really matter if you win or lose you ll still get some decent honor to buy gear with .
all in all wow which was never really the most in depth game has become increasingly dumbed down to a point where now its hardly worth playing .
WoW the king naa shes da Queen
On the button!
Hey, its pretty simple man..
people who negative wow have played it enough most years so answers for negative thinking is only for
burning out. and havent you tought some people are so hooked into also and samtime burned out and they try to
find all the negativity inside to get out?
anyway. some dont like some like , millions like so far , i have liked it !
so these kidna threats are very useless, only for causing arguments and fights there cannot really be building conversations
around this subect anymore
cheers ,
