This game has incredible depth! This game is to hard for little WoW spamming kiddies claiming Chuck Norris Pwns! This game has a huge open world! This game also has very few players =( This game is so underated...I guess the crappy launch gave it a bad rep! There is much potential here....any EQ1 vets should give this a go.....its a pretty damn good game IMO

Sounds like you've become quite the SOE fan since you got your $1 overdraft issue resolved. Glad you like the game, but there's no need to flame other games just because you like a particular one.
BTW, does anyone know if Vanguard's going to be able to retain its lead developer now that he's back working on EQ?
Lead developer or the producer?
I'm so broke. I can't even pay attention.

How do you figure I was flaming another game? I never said WoW was a bad game. I mentioned that the younger players spamming "which Im sure anyone who plays WoW will agree"... is annoying. I like alot of differant games. Nice slight troll attempt there on me bud

Potential, eh? So, when does beta end? Sorry, but you shouldn't be rating games on their potential years after release. By now, if the game hasn't fully realized its potential, it never will. Welcome to 2007.

Potential as in if it only had more subs and people playing. Other then that...it has came along way (performance wise) since I tried it back in 07.

i played this in beta, and was around for the launch (CTD every 5 mins!)
came back for my "free vet trial" tried it again....bored me silly, still lots of bugs, choppy graphics....dead population....quit
came back a third time when SOE turned all past subscribers accts on for a couple free weeks....enjoyed myself for a couple days....then quit again...just couldn't get back into it seeing as it still feels like beta....

My pretty cheap? No, YOUR pretty cheap, not mine. "Your" vs "You're" is a pet peeve of mine, had to comment on it.
It's true that women can buy me pretty cheap. All it takes is a few beers. My gaming tactics can also be cheap sometimes... anything for a win. Beyond that, I am expensive.

I have returned to Vanguard Sooo many times after reading "Its Fixed" "10k bugs squashed" "population numbers are Booming"
blah blah blah yada yada yada

In other words, flaming isn't flaming if the person saying it's not flaming agrees with the sentiment of the flame. That's perhaps reasonable in the fantasy world of online games...

"This game is to hard for little WoW spamming kiddies claiming Chuck Norris Pwns!" (Second sentence.) Aside from that, it was fine.
Obviously you havn't.

Well, it really depends on what you are expecting.
I'm not so sure I've ever seen a "populations numbers are booming" thread though I have seen threads saying that there seems to be a lot of new people.
I can attest to the new island being fairly populated as of last night.
But given that the world is so large, any players who decide to stay and play will be swallowed up.
I would say that if a player requires a huge population where you would see people everywhere, Vanguard is not their game. EXCEPT, on that new island which seems to be pretty decent regarding players. I know I was buffed several times by strangers last night without even asking.
As far as bugs fixed, yeah, there are quite a lot of bugs fixed. It feels soooo different. But yet it does not feel as smooth as games like EQ 2 or WoW as far as glitches.
For instance, there was a task where I had to gather some herbs or something to drive back these tadpole looking things.
I've done this several times (as I've been experimenting with classes) but last night I noticed that the animation for gathering "sometimes" didn't appear.
And there are other sort of junky things as well.
For instance (and I just mention WoW because I'm somewhat familiar with summoning in that game) in WoW if a necromancer summons his little sprite (or whatever it is) the pet appears off to the side of you. In Vanguard, when I summoned my abomination (which looks infinitely better than the WoW pet) it appeared right on top of me so that it appeared as if I was coming out of its back.
this is the sort of thing that plagues vanguard. It feels much better to play, I've noticed far less glitches and bugs but there are "little things" that will just irk those that can't get beyond them.
Also, for players who are used to ease in soloing, though at the levels I've gotten to I can solo, it's not without it's challenges.
Again, for the necromancer I started, I got one add. I can handle one add at lvl 6. But then I got two more. Now, in other games I could possibly fight them off, though with difficulty.
In Vanguard I knew that I was down for the count. So players who might be used to a fairly easy grinding session might be turned off of this. I just thought I'd mention that.
But the game does feel better and play better. It just feels a bit retro and it has its quirks.
I don't know what the high level cities are (and would love to know what they are and where they are) but after the new island, though one will see other people, it's not going to be hordes of people. At least at the low levels that I'm at. I'm also on the higher populated server (or at least it indicates a higher pop when I log on) Seradon

In the end, one can't go wrong by trying the game for free with the Isle of Dawn demo. Not everyone will like it, but the bug, performance and population issues will no longer be reasons for not enjoying the game.
BS. Why make blatantly false Definitive statements like this? It just makes YOU and the game look bad when people do decide to try it and they find bugs and performance issues and low populations. You should at least qualify the statement as YOUR opinion and not irrefutable fact.

He's speaking comparitively. At launch bugs and performance made Vanguard virtually unplayable, because of this the population dropped to unacceptable levels.
Sure there are still bugs in the game now, but not enough to warrant banging your head against a wall until your skull cracks open so bugs really aren't a reason not to play.
I have no issues with performance at all, my computer is nearly two years old now and I get a steady 30-40 fps on the highest settings. It halves when I enter an area with a lot of textures or a lot of players, but once everything is loaded up it goes back up, I experience this in most if not all MMOs I've played. Again, this isn't a reason not to play.
I see new people off the Isle every day, the guild I'm in is growing at a healthy rate and I haven't had a problem grouping for the content I want to do. Now admittedly I'm doing the most popular quest lines that afford the best rewards so many people gravitate to those areas too. So, what do you know, it's not a reason not to play.
So I think you were a little harsh calling what he wrote bullshit right off the mark. I'm guessing that you don't play Vanguard right now.
I don't know why people try to prop up vanguard by saying how different it is than WoW. It's PVE is very similar to WoW to me, personally... My take on it woujld be WoW is more polished and has better art direction and voices, and vanguard has better crafting and has the Diplomacy side-game, play whichever of the two you want. they're both good games. but more similar than different IMHO. if you want to prop up your game of choice by saying how different than WoW it is, then I hope you're playing something very different: a pvp based game like L2, a sandbox like eve. Saying VG is so different from WoW is almost as silly as saying lotro is so different from Wow.

I don't think the OP was trying to make any claims that it was so different from WoW, what he said is that it's more challenging.
I'm not even going to go into the whole origins of MMOs, who copied who and who developed what and when charade here, it's been covered so many times.
Yes WoW is more polished than Vanguard, but I really have to disagree with you on your point that it has better art direction. I find Vanguard to be akin to playing in a live oil painting, the world is truely splendid.
As a 4 year vet of WoW.. I can say that the only thing VG shares with WoW is the way the quest system works. And even then, VG's is still more difficult since you have to do a certain degree of "figuring out", while everything in WoW is marked. Plus they allow addons that basically do the quests for you. Other than that, they are nothing alike..
graphics are realistic

there is nothing wrong with taking the "good" stuff from another game and molding it into something new.

Funny.
This game is really no different than most other MMOs now in terms of performance and bugs. From launch until about 6-8 months ago, performance and bugs DID drive a lot of people from this game and stopped many others from joining.
If someone tries it now, and doesn't like it, well, then at least they got to give it a whirl and make their determination on actual gameplay. Sure, still some bugs and performance issues for older PCs, but they aren't game breakers anymore.
I completely respect someone trying the game and saying they don't like it because of the animations, or the combat mechanics or whatever legitimate reasons they have. I don't respect someone who attacks every positive post someone makes with false statements.
I don't know why some are so opposed to new or returning players trying the game out for free on Isle of Dawn. That is totally risk-free and I see no reason why that would trigger such an emotional response in some of the posters on this thread.
